I don't know if it would be weird to have a thread for a sole mangaka, but with how popular Harada is and how many fujosisters mention her as one of their favourites I think it would be nice to have a thread to discuss her series. Harada (はらだ) is a Japanese BL manga artist who first grew popular through her Gintama doujinshi and her circle called Paraiso, and later on became known for using a lot of dark humor mixed with dark themes in her works such as Color Recipe, Nii-chan, Yata & Momo, Happy Kuso Life, the Song of Yoru&Asa, One Room Angel and many more.

This is legit the first time since SAO and Priest that I ended up enjoying a story from Korea. Is there hope again? I got into this for the setting and the show-don't-tell attitude of the videos not the gay stuff so the gay content was a surprise to me and a nice extra, same as the pretty artstyle.

Does korea ban or dislike overt M/M relationships in its fiction?
I know they have weird ruels around censoring knives and genitalia.

Here's why I have this question.

These 2 side characters (sinu and jake) are from lookism, one of webtoons more popular translated manhwa.

I'll be blunt Lookism isn't really a BL. In general, romance definitely took a back seat, and the story has been completely derailed recently while it turned into a shonen fighting manga.

But there's clearly romantic tension between some male characters. Like its all but outright stated that one character Jay Hong, is in love with the main character Daniel Park. Jay Hong also was apparently disowned by his father for being gay, but this isn't explictly stated but only heavily implied.

But in contrast when a male and female like eachother, the story spells it out much more explicitly.

I have yet to understand my own feelings about Red and whether I consider him hot and cool or hateable. Might be complicated and just be both, which is a good sign. Feel similar (albeit to a lesser degree) about Blue. Yellow might be interesting as well, but I don't know anything about him other than seeing his permanent grin.
I hope that this series will gain some fans in the future, I am in need of fanfics and doujinshi.

Huh, that does sound weird. In my (to be fair, very limited) experience, Asian omegaverse follows similar rules as Western omegaverse in terms of worldbuilding. Which dictates that although omegas are discriminated against, alpha/omega relationships are still the ideal. If any relationship style is looked down on socially, it's usually alpha x alpha or omega x omega.

I'd say so. I just started the manga (chap 14 currently) so he hasn't shown up too much more outside of what I've seen in the anime, but I think I can pretty safely look forward to it because man, I've really been liking the manga as a whole. I am in the academy arc now though, which I've seen anons complain about, but guess I'll just see for myself? You were totally right about the Hibiki/D interactions and backstory getting skipped. Very unfortunate (and outright nonsensical as a decision in the case of their backstories) but oh well.

That's p similar to my own thoughts, actually! Yellow might eke over Blue a little bit in simple having more of my curiosity, but yeah. It's still early so it's hard to really say too much about the DKs, Green is definitely lowest for me though atm.

If you want actual BL Tokyo Babylon and Legal Drug are shonen-ai and blatently so. Of the two I like Tokyo Babylon more and its made me fall in love with them.

In terms of more general works xxxholic has the same BL "boys with emotions" feel though the series isn't explicitly gay. Cardcaptor and its sequel series Tsubasa both have canonically gay side characters though the lead pairing in both those series is hetero.

Really the only two I wouldn't rec reading first is X because its unfinished and works better if you've read Tokyo Babylon and Miyuki-chan because its tonally different from the rest of their works. I don't hate anything Clamp has done and I think all their works have strengths.

I was kind of missing the feeling of shipping two characters who weren't explicitly together in canon, and was looking for a series that allowed me to do so, since I mostly read actual BL these days (hopefully that makes sense). However, I just looked up Tokyo Babylon, and it looks like exactly my kind of thing, so I'm totally going for that first kek. I'll probably get around to xxxholic eventually, but I'm very excited to start Tokyo Babylon!

CLAMP generally has top tier men even when they aren't tied to fujo fanservice.
For fujo I absolutely recommend Tokyo Babylon, RG Veda, X (but that is unfinished), Legal Drug and maybe xxxholic if you like the designs. Not the MCs, but Kurogane/Fye from Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle were one of the most popular gay ships in the late 00s afaik and they are generally top characters IMO so you might give this a try as well.
