Reala (the red jester) is confirmed to be male, but NiGHTS (the purple one) originally had no sex assigned to him by the character designers or the creators of the game, because they wanted him to be easier to relate to by the audience playing the game, no matter what sex they are.
Even from the first game NiGHTS has been head canoned as male, and almost all fans refer to him as such.

Zero/X is my go-to when in need of tenderness. I do not know if he would belong in /flf/ but I everytime I see him, read about him, see fanart of him it gives me massive fluff feels in my heart to the point I still tear up. For those who haven't read it I highly reccomend it, this book is probably one of the most magical reads out there that can be enjoyed by all ages. It's good! It takes the original book and tells it alongside a different story, but still holds the book's themes. The animation is beautiful as well. I recommend it not as a 1-to-1 adaptation of the book, but as a movie that weaves the contents of the book into a different, but still meaningful story.
