Recommendations or discussions for series with gay subtext or historical gay media (like The Picture of Dorian Gray or Giovanni's Room). But also older media where you can easily view with fujo goggles since the writers didn't even think of gays at the time. Ancient mythology is good. Media that you can easily interpret as gay is also very good.

I have an interest in "gay" media that came before homosexuality was depicted in mass media like sitcoms. I would also like to discuss topics like:

>homophobia and realism, especially in historic settings
>how much do older series hold up? especially by themselves
>death of the author and postmodernism
>how much do we misinterpret and distort how being gay really was back then?
>different roles and ideas of male friendship historically

Not western but I watched the Kaze to Ki no Uta OVA. Good stuff! Now time to download the manga. Keiko Takemiya's art style is beautiful and I would love to see modern "takes" on it (similar to how Shundei's lovely artstyle takes inspiration from the 80s).

I also watched Death in Venice a little while ago. I'm glad I watched it out of historical interest and for film hobbyist reasons, but I think modern audiences would find it long and boring. It's sad and distrubing how Björn Andrésen was treated. I thought he looked beautiful and otherworldly in Midsommar. I plan on watching the The Most Beautiful Boy in the World documentary as well.

Might check out The Heart of Thomas next or The Picture of Dorian Gray since I haven't read that yet. I'll def read the novel first censored and uncensored, but I wonder if the film adaptations are good?

70s BL is so ethereal. I've also always wished for a comeback. I am of the unpopular opinion that BL looked the best in the 70s, back when it was heavily inspired by shoujo. I also love that the OVA has the same character designer as the original gundam, cracks me up to think of a normie looking boomer like Yasuhiko being told he has to do character designs for a BL.

I feel like season 1 was more laid back and we got to see more of the characters. Since Alex for some reason decided to cram season 2 and 3 into one i think the ending was a little rushed in season 2. We got Ford back, but he was barely in the episodes. I think that also contributed to people hating him back then (and now, with the rewatchs i see a lot of people still hating Ford lol)

Nope. I don't think a third season now would hit the same as the last two. Something would be missing, like every cartoon revival ends fucking something up. We COULD get some Stan and Ford boat adventures tho…like Fionna and Cake got a more adult-leaning show last year

Stancest has a very special place in my heart! But i also enjoy Billbip because i feel like Bill and Dipper have a loooooot of chemistry, it's insane.
