I may genuinely stop watching seasonal anime. There's stuff airing right now that I like but despite having a pretty cozy job it still feels like I don't have enough time to do everything I want and I find myself way more drawn to my gaming backlog while weekly episodes are piling up unwatched.

I've read a translated fic from pixiv of a ship reincarnated, and they meet when the mastermind guy is 16 years old and the other guy is like 30 something. So the older guy "trains" the younger guy by playing with his nipples and all, it's pretty hot. But I realized I always clown on men who do that "100 year old in a loli body" bullshit, but I'm literally the same. I don't feel bad though.

I'm trying to consider why I like the Shantae series even though I'm not usually into a franchise that so obviously has a waifu coomerbait element. I think in the end I don't mind it here cause the games go about it in a cutesy lighthearted way and that doesn't make me uncomfortable like the bath scenes in Persona 4 do for instance.

I think if I posted this on /rps/ people wouldn't see it in time but free stream of Charisma de Stage ~Okaeri~ at 9PM JST tomorrow.
https://www.youtube.com/@charisma_de_stThey delete the stream really fast after the video ends so there's no replay but it's HD and the live chat goes nuts. Okaeri adapts more episodes including cycling to the sea, Ohse's Christmas tree, and Amahiko's penis pressure problem, but it also has part-adlibbed variety games with voice actor guests and more original songs. The bluray recording has Fumiya's break, kind of wish it were Amahiko or Iori's because I think they go down better for newcomers.
Ashflow looks much better in the Festival stage, but the vocals were rushed and out of rhythm. Honestly the song only works if you're already invested in Fumiya as a character and even then you need the lyric booklet to catch most of the lines. RAT BAD END is truly the lyrical genius of our time. No.10996

Also I think that in general the standard of media literacy has only gone up, people love to harp on growing puritanism and people harping on authors for their political/social standings, but I think people forget that our standard for media "analysis" 15 years ago was Nostalgia Critic and TGWTGs dude bros screaming at a camera about children's movies for having a dark moment or some shit. Fandom psychoanalysts and general analysis now is much more common and I enjoy seeing other peoples perspectives even if I don't agree.

>>11073Oh shit what a coincidence. I started playing limbus again just recently, fully caught up with the story now.
Who is your favorite that you are worried about?
Hong Lu has always been my favorite and I was satisfied with his story for the most part (even found a homo ship I enjoy with him), but I also started to like Gregor more and he feels very neglected which makes me a bit sad.
No.11077
>>11076meursault has been my favorite, but i feel like i'm thinking too hard about his novel, projecting unrealistic expectations onto limbus, and ruining my own fun.
hong lu's canto was very enjoyable to me but seeing how almost all the women weren't really explored, and how daiyu's role in hong lu's life was downplayed made me feel ominous about how marie will play into meur's canto, because she was a huge part of his novel but then project moon doesn't really adapt romance. it doesn't help that meursault doesn't get a lot of lines or screentime per canto, which is alright because he just isn't talkative, but he hasn't done anything huge since the heathcliff moment in canto 6 and the rest of his characterization is very easy to miss (uptie stories, egos, the french letters in the back of the checkup intervallo).
on a more fujo note i'm glad kjh keeps throwing heathcliff and meursault crumbs into the story.
No.11078
>>11077I'm very interested in meursault's canto but yeah, it's better to not expect it to resemble anything from the original book. I've been thinking recently about which books that inspired limbus I have read and realized that it didn't even register to me that Gregor is from the Metamorphosis which I read multiple times, because his story barely had anything to do with the original.
>and how daiyu's role in hong lu's life was downplayed made me feel ominous about how marie will play into meur's cantoI went into canto 8 blind (didn't know the original story or spoilers) and thought "I bet Daiyu was his love interest in the original", checked wikipedia later and turns out I was correct. I think Daiyu might get more focus in the future, she is the one Hong Lu seems to care about the most along with his little sister. PM does seem averse to romance and I think it's fine, for me the way they write love stories is very hit and miss. Loved Angelica and Roland, strongly disliked Heath and Cathy (just my personal taste).

I think what's compelling about 3914 versus a lot of other questionable age gap ships is that Satomi controls the pace. I sort of wish karaoke/famires was more popular with EN but understand that it is a complete monkey paw scenario in 2025.

>>11088>I would love to see what jp fujos in general think about the western fandom's puritan problem. They know and they think it's totally insane. Regular Japanese nerds read a huge thread written in English on tumblr about it that warned them about it, it was from 2023 iirc. Several of them have been harassed for shipping stuff or "you whitewashed this character so you're racist" stuff. When it comes to professionals I think the guy who made Trigun retweeted some of these tweets. And plenty of mangaka, game developers, anime studios, etc. have complained about being sometimes forced to adapt their works for an "international" audience but it's less from regular western fans and more from western companies so that's a bit different.

The lion's share of the good yaoi is still on Twitter, however. I wish I could make more artists migrate because the tag system actually works and the mute/block features are much better.
However, bsky has recently updated its policies and artists are already side-eying the wording. I honestly think we're all going to have to suck it up and go to baraag at some point in the future. I hope by then there will be a fujo-only equivalent.

>>11135I'm usually into the more popular m/m ship anyways so odds are I'm more likely to find in character content, so yes I am. Especially since multishipping has just turned into making a MC harem even for series that don't have the protag halo, and it pisses me off to see a canonically socially inept autist whose also said to be the least good looking who has been unable to talk normally to his love (for a girl) despite knowing her for years be made into some charismatic uke that for whatever reason no one can resist. That being said if an author has written decent enough content for my ship before, I'm more likely to give their other fics a try.

Then bam, it goes TOO fucking silly and I think I need to backtrack this story and pretend that never happened or I can never tell this story to another soul in my entire life. The real problem is that part of me is proud of the things my brain invents and wants to share them, but when you're super zonked with exhaustion or cramps, my personal judgement dies.
>>11172True story, I was in a discord server with a guy who was a self proclaimed gooner. He treated it like a life style choice and told stories about using multiple PC screens to have porn videos playing at all hours, day and night, to overstimulate himself while he wrote self insert fiction about himself fucking a prostitute Miku clone from the planet Zod. Even the other men in the server thought he was a mad degenerate but kept voting not to kick him because his deranged ramblings were entertaining. He was desensitized to a point that he didn't seem to know what was normal or not to talk about with strangers in a sfw channel, and whenever he didn't talk about porn or fapping he would go into rants about real women destroying society so spiritual connection to anime through dick was the only option.
Until that I didn't realize people took the word's meaning seriously. I thought it was just an accusation aimed at anime fanboys with too many titty retweets. I wonder what he does now the word has spread.
Also while typing this I realized that in many cases it could have just been called Solo Competitive Edging.

>>11312That makes no sense. How can something created by women for other women be called male gaze? It can try to imitate it, but it's female gaze by default. Trying to define it by how much body it shows or whatever would be relying on things that are entirely subjective
No.11314
>>11313it's just the official definition.
male gaze is not about who the product is for or who it was made by, it's an approach to how a character is represented. when you represent a character by sexualizing his or her body, you're operating from what has been officially defined in media studies as male gaze.
it is not implying that as a woman you can't enjoy a man or a woman being depicted in an objectified way though, it's just what the women that were studying media back in 1970 noticed as a strong trend when it came to male directors whenever a woman was on screen.
female gaze is associated with when a character, male or female, becomes attractive to the audience, male or female, by virtue of what they are doing and what that reveals about their personality and worldviews.
so semi-naked closeups of male/female characters on screen = male gaze
a guy or a girl who beats up the bad guys and then says somethijg like "no one messed with my friends" = female gaze
these are academic definitions that arent really up for debate in what they mean. what one can and should argue about is how they seemingly imply that both genders arent able to enjoy both types of fanservice. i wouldnt hold it against the women who first explored these terms though since it was a different time and they were among the first to openly criticize how overwhelmingly male-oriented pieces of media were. it was the first step to popularize sexy guys on screen too and the reverse for women (actual characters with depth instead of pin-ups)
No.11316
>>11314Ok, I understand what you're saying now. I didn't know there were studies done on this. I agree, both genders can create and enjoy content for both of these types, so it feels weird to see the words "male" and "female" used to define them. >>11368> I think it's that the romantasy girls weren't raised in the nerd fandom crowd where we always got warnings about not behaving in a way that feeds into bad stereotypes.Romance as a genre has always been a ghetto and unlike SF/fantasy or furries, it hasn’t had decades of an established con culture so I can give organizers some benefit of the doubt. If they were more experienced, they would’ve have the foresight to enact guard rails to prevent inappropriate behavior. There was also an instance where someone whipped out a strap-on and someone else started fellating it in public and no one had the sense to stop them. Furries have had decades to perfect their con culture and you end up with spectacles like Rainfurrest, whereas I’m assuming the average romantasy fan is more normie and so probably better socially integrated. So in short, I think the organizers are mostly to blame.

Like saying 'see, he's not a victim here, he's the one doing the rape' or whatever. But I personally find it more interesting to play around with the taboo and fucked up scenario of a shota getting groomed. I couldn't imagine having any lasting enthusiasm for English VAs - ignoring that I'm not American and find American dubs really hard to take seriously - the actors just don't do the same job as these Japanese ones do. They provide voice recordings and turn up to convention booths but that's it, the connection ends there. There's no stage persona act to project the 2D character on, they're just some real dudes. I don't know shit about what the Japanese guys are like at home or anything, I just know the silly shit they wrote during a comedy gameshow bit while pulling a smug face and that's enough for me to have a favorable impression.
>>11873Having taken the donghua pill early on Hoyo VA debates are so strange to me, because English speakers will fight over playing the game in either English or Japanese. No.11961
>>11958That's the implication. These artists don't give a shit if you sell their stuff to Mandarake or trade them with other doujinshi with friends from what I've seen. They just don't want to see their shit sold for the equivalent of hundreds of dollars on Yahoo Auction or Ebay. That's why during events they limit the number of doujinshi to one or two per person regardless of how many doujinshi they will have to take home with them, they know they can sell their stuff on toranoana later or to the next events anyway. Nowadays a lot of them repost their older doujinshi for free on pixiv and I don't know if it's to prevent scalpers from selling them online for way more than they should or if it's just because they don't want to print them again when they already have to print a lot of more recent stuff.
No.11963
>>11961>>11959>>11958It's genuinely not for the sake of scalpers, it's because of the boogeyman copyright law. I've had a lot of djs that say "burn it once you finished reading" wtf?
It's because they fear that if the work gets "put out there", they'll get hit by the copyright notice by the original creators.
This ever-constant fear of the boogeyman is present in every fanartist, hence why they censor character names when talking about ships, NEVER post ship art under official tags (this is a capital sin), and be as secret as possible when it comes to doujin distribution.
The boogeyman problem only really applies to Nintendo properties (after all, they did sue someone over pikachu porn) but for every other thing? Not really.
The thing with doujin making and doujin production (and all fanworks in general) is that companies understand that they need to give fans a leeway of delusion hence why they don't impose stricter laws over fanwork creation but a fanwork shouldn't ever be more profitable than the original property or a fanwork "distort" the original property (not any more than it already happens anyway), so they allow people to make things with the knowledge that they (understand) that it's not inherently allowed.
No.11966
>>11963>hence why they censor character names when talking about shipsNo, this one is mostly because they don't want to be harassed by other fans who don't like the ships they talk about. They also use code names like the ship numbers used for the Reborn characters back then. It's the same thing as when tumblr was the new big fandom website and everyone was begging others to use missing e and then xkit to block tags and to not tag how much they hate a character or pairing to not ruin fans' search results. It's true artists are worried about copyrights and lawsuits but they display that they're merely fans in other ways. There's how dirt cheap doujinshi can be compared to the amount of effort and means it takes to draw, print them and include free goodies like tote bags, stickers, keychains, fans, etc. with them on top of these disclaimers that you can do whatever you want with their doujinshi except reprint/post them online and sell them online.

Also not sure if this is a common pattern or my mind making it up, but I noticed original BL/manhwa readers are more likely to lust over and only care about the seme and self-insert into the uke, whereas primary ship fujos mainly "lust over" and care about the uke while treating the top as a personality-less dildo. But for the latter, I'm not even sure if it's so much lusting over the uke but more like paradoxically self-inserting into the uke with the ship being some wish fulfillment thing (with the seme just attending to all your needs and fulfilling all sexual fantasies while still not giving a shit about said character).

I don't feel like this is on topic anymore in the friend finder thread but I don't think we have a thread for cons and events so I might as well as here. For French anons, why is the Ycon in Paris? The first times happened in Lyon, then the organizers moved the event to Paris. This year in May they planned a special Ycon in Lyon again for the first time in 10 years at the exact same time as the local con in Lyon, and now they announced the next special edition will take place in… Paris again. Is there a specific reason why they keep doing this or did they just come to the (wrong?) conclusion after a lot of people chose the other con in Lyon and not theirs in May? I assume it's a business thing and they just expect more people to be willing to go to Paris but last year we all know what happened with trains in the Marseille, Lyon and Paris line so I also wonder if they just keep making bad decisions over and over again. Also, I saw people online arguing over whether minors should be allowed in the venue and to me it's insane older teenagers are allowed even with adult supervision. for example, fujos who share the same ship have a strong sense of community. we can discuss the ship and both characters themselves, how they interact, and why it makes sense to us. we're invested.
but for yumes, isn't this discussion lopsided? discussion can only be about the GUY in the yumeship unless other yumes are willing to give a shit about someone's personal OC lore. and do they care? why would they? and in the case where a yume is "non-sharing," then they can't even be friends with other yumes who like the same guy… so they're in a community of other yumeshippers for different characters, just talking about themselves and to themselves, but no one really cares or is interacting on a deep level? seriously curious how these communities interact. they seem very siloed to me, as an outsider.

>>12084From what I've personally observed, most yumes either have a personal clique of 3-4 friends who just egg them on "wow I love your ship of charaxyou" and that's as far as their interaction goes. Some others REALLY want you to give a shit about their OC, and I think people who are open to OCs in general are the ones that care about what yumes have to say.
Yumeing is an inherently selfish thing, you basically ignore everything about the source material just to think about yourself being with your fav and nothing else. For some people, that's brave because "the source material sucks anyway" but if you think that way did you even like your supposed husbando at all? It's just shallow.

>>12086>I can't ever find a place where they actually discuss anything? The only yume community that I've ever seen has been on reddit of all places, and it was basically just people making posts about their ships/self-inserts. There was very little discussion.
>>12087>For some people, that's brave because "the source material sucks anyway" but if you think that way did you even like your supposed husbando at all? It's just shallow.I can understand not liking every plot decision made in a story, or thinking that a great character is trapped in a terrible piece of media, etc, but I will never understand the complete disregard for canon that some yumes (and other fans, tbh) have.

>>12084Observing online I think the yumes in Japan tend to use online communites just to organize meeting up and going to events IRL
I figured they just want to enjoy being fans together without being judged for being in love but maybe I'm reaching with that theory
Otherwise agree with western communities and the weird push for OCs over talking about actual canon.

>>12085I was thinking of this guy as I read the previous post lol. IMO the key to yume/OC acceptance is to be an objectively good ARTIST (writers will never reach this level of success no matter how good they are). Also because of the WoL's shared story path XIV lends itself to OC shipping in a way other fandoms typically don't–WoL/NPC shipping isn't on the same level of "girl what the fuck are you doing" as, like, OC/Bakugo.

>>12084My friend is a non-sharing yume engaged in yume Discord servers and from what I've seen, yumes just interact with each other like they would "obsessing" over a ship like fujos do. They read about or ask each other about their yumeship's lore, make fanart for each other, etc. I was in a server for a hot minute just to see what it looked like and imo interactions are heavily based on reciprocity. It's more or less unsaid that if someone's commenting on your yumeship, you're expected to talk about theirs too which makes the whole thing inauthentic compared to actual shipping circles. And yeah no one's really talking on a deep level because they're all non-sharing and they can only bear talking to people with husbandos from other media they have no interest in kek.

>>12092When I was in a husbandofag space that also allowed some fujoshit for a while it was mostly just people posting character thirst and 'imagine Husbando doing this to (You) or (You) doing this to husbando' prompts, OCs were only mentioned rarely. But I guess that must be only the type of people who are cool with 'sharing'. I enjoy character thirst too, it's only when it gets into involving (You) that I can't follow along and start secondhand cringing or trying to imagine my ship. I don't so much mind non-romantic imagines, though.

>>12078I'm in the same boat, nonna. I love dolly kei, but I wear scrubs for work and don't really leave the house. I'm trying a low and slow scheme thought, where I replace one of my clothing items with a cuter version every time I wear it out (ie, free tshirt gets swapped for a blouse). Hopefully this will force me to dress the way I actually want to dress, rather than the way that I'm used to dressing.

>>12091You make a good point and that makes me wonder if this is also a thing in other MMO fanbases or whether XIV is an abnormal case. I don't play other MMOs so I have no idea what goes on in those fanbases. Would be funny if there's an equivalent artist in the World of warcraft community.

>>12096I've seen people hardcore yume for Teldryn Sero from Skyrim and Margit/Morgott and Messmer from Elden Ring, all with relatively good engagement on their art (tumblr, so like 30-50 notes). But, I've also seen similar but slightly less levels of engagement with male OCs (or 'male' ftm OCs, which is just yumeing with a coat of paint) for both characters.
I've seen doujinshi about Skyrim OCs that seem to sell fairly well, but these aren't usually that shippy.

Do any nonnas here have an ita bag? I collect pins and would love to display them, and my otp kek, but I am 30+ and taking that to work would be insane. It's kinda throwing me for a loop how I've heard two younger-seeming review/commentary youtubers just flat out saying the word retarded. I know two isn't a lot but there's an unrelated video I watched where as a joke the youtuber briefly flashed an article onscreen about the word retarded making a comeback and now I'm starting to wonder if that's actually legit. I dunno, I just find that fascinating.

I ended up buying the goth clothes I was eyeing and they arrived today. In the end I'm glad I did it cause I felt very happy trying them on.
