I bought a bunch of BL manga a few months ago because I got a gift card for a bookstore and I don't think I read everything yet. Some of the books I read weren't really all that amazing though. I just saw on twitter that ma2 started a spinoff for her josei manga about straight romance between office workers from the same company, and the spinoff will be a BL manga so I'm looking forward to it because I like her art style a lot. But I haven't read the original series so idk if it's a romcom, or melodramatic, or if there's more than romance in the story.

I keep trying to read BL with the whole "x leaves the city to live a relaxing life in the countryside but whoaaoaoaa the local dragon/fox/dog entity is suddenly interested in him" plot, and the ones I read a few years back were pretty good, worked through feelings plenty, just didn't take full creative potential on the non-human part when they eventually had sex. The ones I've read recently though start as expected then suddenly have a rape scene by the end of the first chapter, then try to do the same relationship feelings dilemmas afterward like it wasn't a monster jumping out of the bushes and pinning him down. Like, sudden unprepared anal is the yaoi equivalent to being attacked by this wild dog, I wish they'd take it more seriously because I'd be into it if they played up being afraid of getting attacked again instead of turning all wishywashy nothing afterward. Even when they do a threat that the non-human could turn bad, they're so mild about it I can't feel any tension. It's almost like I stumbled upon the genre that has both of the worst traits of short lived BL that doesn't expect to do much (A) get on with the rape before you give a shit about anyone and B) be as softly softly ineffectual as possible).
I then remember I got hold of these titles not by browsing scan sites but by looking at new BL preorders from US publishers. I swear there's a bunch more BL licenses happening lately but they're mostly forgettable one volume titles. The stuff I read scans of that had good art or interesting settings don't get print releases even if they are licensed. I worry about how this'll end up in a few years, will the publishers sell enough copies to see BL as worthwhile? They're kind of too expensive to buy random mystery BL you haven't read before, but if I read them online beforehand I wouldn't feel any incentive to pay and keep them. The ones I want either aren't in print or the print keeps being delayed/cancelled. This turned out real pessimistic, hope it still fits the thread.
>>3438Thanks for the reminder to get back to this! I read the first volume last year or the year before. Author does some delicious bodies.

This might make me come across as a psychopath but the tension around the act does so much more for me than the rape itself. Without it I may as well be reading normal sex.

I ordered the second volume of Sonna iu nara daite yaru in French yesterday and I'm waiting for it but I'm sure it will take some time because of the summer break. I've been looking forward to this for so long, but I really hate how much time it took for the publishing company to release it even though they spent more than a year saying it will be released "soon". I also can't believe the volume still doesn't have a full fan translation yet despite Niyama's popularity. And on top of that the third volume will be released in Japan very soon.

>>3584Sorry. I searched about YBC, here’s some fan’s intention to translate chapters in text form, hesitating to upload translated manga because of anime sites being shutted down, if looking by her (his?) comments.
Did you checked YourReadingManga, MangaDex? I’m not sure about rest, these two are the most go-to usually. Some use readers aggregators showing media from various sources.

>>3585Thanks for the suggestions, found some decent websites but they're all at the last chapter I read. But at least it was updated last time in May of this year. I had to use a VPN though because my retarded country decided to cash in on manga and have their own sanitized manga website/app and banned all the actually good free ones.

I suddenly thought about it because it's been a while since I read Oni to Tengoku but while I liked the first two volumes of the manga and wanted more of it I find it a bit disappointing that the chapters after that are all a lot more light hearted and sometimes even cutesy. I liked the story with the main characters' fujoshi coworker, but I found it so weird and distasteful that the MC's mother is shown as a cutesy, clueless idol fangirl and he forgives her for all the abuse he went through as a kid. We start with the MC being so traumatised by being beaten up everyday by his mom when he was a kid he stayed distant and had panic attacks with his previous girlfriends and stayed a virgin until he's like 34 or 36 years old to him being like "uh I guess things were hard for her too" while she stans whatever idol band in the background. idk it rubs me the wrong way. Even Yatamomo didn't seem nearly as weird because at least it was consistent throughout the entire series. It's like Oni to Tengoku wasn't supposed to be longer than 2 volumes but made more profit than expected so now there's a sequel.
No.3603
>>3596Oh what the fuck, Oni to Tengoku was one of my favourite BLs ever, though I never knew it had a sequel. I find it insane how the author tried to redeem the mother who tied up and locked her child in a closet as someone who did an oopsie that was struggling herself AND throw in some comedy gap moe gag as well. the fact the MC forgives her is even more insane what the fuck. Thank you for the heads up, I wouldve been quick to read the sequel since I loved the base work and I would be absolutely crushed to see it turn in this direction because the series is a cash magnet. Ill just stick to the knowledge of the og volumes and pretend the newer chapters never existed…..

>>3622>speed-dating BLAhh, you're making me crave this now anon…we need more extended cast BL in general. I really wish they'd away with the industry standard 1-2 volumes because I really feel it stifles creativity and freedom for a lot of mangaka.

>>3622Lately I'm reading korean webnovels with reality TV shows in them, so now I'm wondering why there isn't an omegaverse (replace with kemonomimi predator/prey races if you must) dating show series. Just think about the public drama if someone starts complaining they're not taking appropriate safety precautions for the breedable dudes while they're living in the same house/island. The amount of playing things up for the camera while internally losing their shit, but this time the drug use is actually wanted behavior and it's questioned if someone isn't seen on camera taking theirs. Viewer voting based on edited footage misconceptions lead to unusual pair ups in bedrooms, guys who were considered on the same side of the dating pool end up going at it, etc. etc.
Oh and beach tasks where everyone HAS to strip off and get wet, which only creates further tension after sweating without as much cologne/perfume on. Romantic candlelit three course dinner but someone is drooling for the wrong meal.

>>3628If it were a game, how would you want to interact with it?
>participant making decisions on and off set>production director choosing scenes to omit, tasks to introduce, and whether to stay true to audience votes>audience member voting and making online posts to try and sway othersThe first is the most obvious for a dating sim/VN experience, but I feel like it'd create a very linear story experience. The other two appeal to me as a shipper, because it'd be fun to see the characters responding to your meddling and how they pair up as a result. You wouldn't need to designate a protagonist either, the game'd just need to spend a lot on CGs for every match up.

>>3655>Click on her page>Featured vid is "why I'm against scanlation"I really don't know why the Japanese haven't yet caught on to the futility of anti-piracy. In this day and age the only way to not get content pirated is to either not make it at all or make something so shut that no one even wants to pirate it.
No.3659
>>3658somewhat ot, but the japanese tend to have a very parasocial relationship with the media they consume. pirating/not respecting the wishes of the author is seen akin to personally insulting the author's mother lmao. on a similar topic, ive seen insane sperges that get mad and send harassment campaigns against you if youre caught modding your game since its an "insult" to the devs to tamper with their creation.

No.3661
>>3658I don't think they even realize that the things they like that are easily accessible in stores, online, on tv, etc. in Japan are often not legally available in most countries, and some manga or anime are only available for a limited amount of time so the only way you could possibly legally read some manga are by buying Japanese copies you may not even be able to read, buying crazy expensive second hand copies of the manga, or maybe hope for a new edition or reprints later.
