>>4725So many English licenses are held by publishers who don't distribute to the UK, to get hold of them I have to find a store that imports them and most of those have stocking difficulties, especially for Yen Press and Tokyopop. I've picked up some good deals from comic book stores though, they have no idea what they're buying and end up with surplus BL. Discounted manga is rare so it's nice being able to pick up BL that way.
But yeah, most short manga don't get licensed so I'll blitz through 10 for every 1 I actually see for sale.

https://www.chil-chil.net/blAwardRank/y/2025/mode/series/ it's Healing Paradox: Deeper (sequel to Healing Paradox) by Hirune Cyan.

Whelp. My favourite BL that's released in the 2020's is getting axed due to poor sales.
https://x.com/jungle_diplodox/status/1914281345968132096 Wish it didn't happen because the premise and art was so unique and interesting, with a strong throwback to 80s shounen action style. And within the world of BL, this was a breath of fresh air amongst the sea of SoL school/office-jobs who focus soley on the couple getting together.
But alas.

>>4938I'm so mad about this, specially since the author mentioned someone was interested in releasing it officially in English - I imagine that deal just went and died because I don't think many publishers are running to bring over a manga that got axed in Japan.
My only consolation is that 6 volumes is pretty long for Midori, all her other works were one shots. I hope her next try at something serialized is properly appreciated.

>>4938What the fuck
This was the first time in ages that I was interested in an actual BL series again.
FUCK
I blame mainstream artstyle fags. People who are into manga for sexual reasons are allergic to uncommon styles. Otaku and most BL fujos want their generic moe crap, it's sad. I tried to get fujos I know into this but all of them keep sticking to either sugary gay school romances or tiny veiled otome shit.
This just means more short-story BLs and more BL without a narrative besides "boys who are in love" that I will keep ignoring, fuck this shit.

>>4938This actually looks interesting. I was going to say that it should have tried going for another genre but then I caught myself, like no, we need this kind of stuff that is more varied and has non-straight relationships.
Its a shame…hope the author doesn't loose faith in their story and characters.

>>4947>I was going to say that it should have tried going for another genre but then I caught myself. The mangaka is so clearly inspired by oldschool shojo that I'm almost sure that if she did something more traditional, it would be in the vein of A cruel god reigns, which I'm not sure would sell a lot better in the current year…

>>5009Damn. I stopped using mangadex when they changed the ui, but it still sucks to see another manga site having a bunch of works be culled. If anyone’s looking for a general manga site replacement, there’s comick.io. I use it because they tend to post licensed manga, manhwa, and manhua that you sometimes can’t find elsewhere. They have a small amount of bl though and a lot of it is locked behind making an account. It’s not worth it to make an account on comickio for bl imo because most bl is posted on batoto or mrm.

>>5009I understand the need to assert their rights here but hitting stuff that has no official translations is so annoying.
They're also still often awful about digital distribution, I actively tried to give the publisher money for a series recently and my only option was buying a subset of the vols for a whopping $~15 each msrp (these are not collections and or hardback either, standard size volumes and the print quality didn't seem amazing) and then searching ebay for the rest where they might be even pricier.
I don't bother pirating shonen jump stuff because I can just pay $5, I would be fine buying digital volumes even if they cost more than SJ, but I don't have the shelf space or patience to deal with physical buy in unless I already know I love the work (or it's single volume or something.)
Also, I'm just complaining now but why the hell does SJ not let you read everything in their app/why does Viz not just put everything they localize on there. Content I pay for shouldn't take more effort to read.

>>5022>subset of the vols for a whopping $~15 each msrp (these are not collections and or hardback either, standard size volumes and the print quality didn't seem amazing)Reminds me of the fact that if I want to read Polaris at Dawn officially in English, I have to pay $14 for the second volume, and that’s not including tax (of which my bumfuck, nowhere area’s sales tax is 10%). And it’s a digital version too. Like wtf, who’s paying almost triple the original Japanese version price for a digital version? I know there’s a subscription model to pay instead but fuck subscriptions.

>>5057The appeal to me was the push and pull nature of their relationship, plus the slowly building character arcs and tension. Shirotani's internal battle between resisting contamination and craving physical intimacy, Kurose's struggle with holding back… I wouldn't call it slow burn by any stretch of the word but I felt like the development of their respective arcs was paced well for the amount of volumes.
Also, Shirotani was way too cute ♥

JP speaking fujos pls read シュガースカルとディープキス so I can have someone to discuss it with.
>>4832Fangs is pretty good. The artist is insanely skilled at drawing in general, it's very nice to look at.
I also like Yoake no Uta a lot, but the author has been increasing the suffering lately and it's just very sad to read right now.
I should really read Natsuno Hiroko's manga. She only has like 3 series but they've all won Chil Chil awards.

>>5313So this is why everyone is calling the mangaka a sellout. I need to read this to, but I do enjoy the manga as it is because I've been reading it blind and saw the controversy so I didn't have specific expectations. I'm in Japan right now and I've seen ads for the anime adaptation on huge screens in Harajuku and in the Shibuya crossing so I kinda get why she did that. No way an actual BL manga would have had that much success, sadly.

>>5390I haven't read Banana Fish or watched the anime yet but isn't it more of a regular shojo manga that just happens to have a gay main couple instead of a straight one? As opposed to a series published in a BL magazine and marketed as such? Please no spoilers, I'm trying to get the volumes in my library but everyone keeps borrowing the first volume before I can. I don't think it really makes a difference in terms of story telling but it does change everything in terms of marketing, ads, and opportunities for animated or live action adaptations, same reason why Black Butler and Toilet Bound Hanako-kun are advertised shonen manga and not shojo manga.
