>>8981For some reason, I feel this way about P5 protag and Akechi. I love seeing them be friends and support each other, but I don't really see them as romantic partners. The ship is cute, but I'm mainly a slut for all the art that can be interpreted platonically.
Which is really strange, because I do like them. I find them attractive, each on their own. It's just difficult for me to imagine them as being in a romantic relationship.
(And I'm usually a major shipper in Persona games…)

>>8982Do you ship either of the with a different character instead? I always thought Joker/Fox or Joker/Mishima was great but the main pairing didn't stick even though it's very cute and has high quality fanworks.
No.8987
>>8981I've seen someone on twitter imply that shipping characters in Mouthwashing is a disrespectful way of engaging with the source material. I'm paraphrasing cause I forgot the exact wording but I recall the post was formatted kinda like if the poster responded to someone who suggested Curly bottoms.
No.8988
>>8981I get it. Sometimes it feels disrespectful to me to ship things from really, really good series. As if the series writing is above my debauchery, so if I'm going to make fanworks it better be good enough to live up to the original.
No.8989
>>8981Shipping brainworms are independent of the caliber of a work–they'll get you when they get you. That person didn't get LOTR brainworms and mistakenly thought it was because they cared too much when the true answer is simple: the LOTR brainworms just didn't get them.
No.8992
>>8983Yup, Joker/Fox is my favourite, but it's hard to find fanworks because when I looked, they all wanted Yusuke to top… Joker/Mishima is really cute too, I do ship that, but I thought it was considered a crack ship.
What about you, nona?

>>8987They're either homophobes or people encountering their first anticapitalist media, and they're annoying as fuck. Personally I'm tired of yet another piece of media where the woman only exists as an accessory to the men's development (specially since her role is to be a rape victim and die) so I just can't take anyone who does the whole "but mouthwashing is soooo serious" song and dance.

>>8992>Joker/Mishimai thought i was one of the only ones. i’ve got like five unfinished fics for them that have been sitting on my computer for years lmao. mishima was soooo cute in the early game and i was shocked to find out he wasn’t nearly as popular as i expected him to be, which kinda took the wind out my sails in terms of writing.

>>8974Unironically, testosterone makes you horny. I've met several people like this before who at first I honest to god "try" to maybe tolerate them but they're just as bad as gooner men.
Well, guess they're truly fitting the "M" in "FTM" by acting like a porndamaged male.
No.9009
>>9004He's cute but when I played the game I got too many 'aggressively heterosexual' vibes from him to ship him with Joker, personally. Same reason why I couldn't get into Yosuke/MC in 4. I know that I don't have to let this stop me from shipping but it just kinda happens with me.

>>9012I think it's the god-given right of any catholic to sexualize the fuck out of the clergy, but I find it weird how so many people in fandom seem to engage with it in, like, a really earnest way from a religious perspective? It has weird "yay church!" to me.
No.9016
>>9012It's technically tailor-made for fujos. You have a sausage fest with a bunch of dudes from different countries (at least in the movie version) and very different personalities that ally, attack or scheme against each other and the only woman in sight is a decently written, strong character instead of a love interest. Plus the somewhat juvenile, maybe even slightly feminine, behavior of Benitez, a charismatic antagonist and guys showing their weaknesses.
The thing is just that instead of anime bishounen it's all old cardinals lol. Though don't forget that the catholic church has top tier esthetics, be it the dress-code or the churches. I am not religious myself but visited like 200 churches when I was in Sicily last month, sometimes walking 15km per day to see all of the interesting ones.
Also I haven't read the book but if that one excerpt I saw is real then MC is implied to be bisexual in the original.

>>9015Let me break this down.
Not only does
>>9016 make some very good points, most of the Great Masters of Art were funded by the Vatican, and reffing church art creates bangers artwork.
But also, from what I could tell, this is a very earnest film, which does not strike me as incompatible with catholicism. Catholicism is a lot about suffering with the lot god has made fit to deal you, and through that suffering, you grow closer to him.
Everyone has weaknesses, through which the devil can take hold. The pope is a man, and even he is fallible. People are allowed to disagree with him, as long as they are acting in their best conscience.
I saw this movie last night. I did not watch it fifty times, so I might be wrong on some points. I am also not a practising catholic and am basing this on my own observations and conversations with a deeply catholic buddy, so any fujo with more catholic experience than I, is free to weigh in. I might be completely misinterpreting this, and I will appreciate any correction.
The cardinals are mainly depicted as flawed humans. They are mostly not acting from a place of hatred or evil. Father Latin Beard talks of war is not directed at a boogeyman, it comes up in connection with an actual terrorist bombing incident that affects him, and those around him.Father Woody Allen’s Glasses is shown as initially not wanting the post, but he secretly, deep down, does actually want the post. He is weak in that sense.Father African dude is shown as having done his bad shit years ago(I still think it was a dick move), and he is forgiven with the words “You are a good man, and I know you can be.” Father African dude responds with what seems to be an earnest request for prayer. This is very catholic, the idea that the clergyman above you should act as a loving father and forgive your sins. Love the sinner, hate the sin. Even Father Hot Mexican has his vice (calling yourself innocent as a papal title? Damn), but he is also acting from a place of sincerity, when he explains his motives for refusing the surgery to fix his intersex condition. He is acting in his best conscience. The hot mexican dude becomes pope anyway, despite having female parts, and the fact that this is the best outcome is Suffering for Father MC, who has based his life’s work on a religion that does not allow for female clergy members. He also has to deal with the fact that the pope he trusted and believed in as the closest authority, did in fact sort of try and rig the election.I can see how fujos who grew up around practising catholics could enjoy this film.
Furthermore, Good Catholic Boys were super rare in yaoi, last time I checked.
No.9020
>>9017Oh yeah this is another important aspect. I am a drawfag and art fan that looks on and collects a ton of fan works and many of the most beautiful ones are inspired by religious iconography IMO. Not because religion itself made things better but because most of the great artists of the past were paid by the church or chose those motifs deliberately.
>Catholicism is a lot about suffering with the lot god has made fit to deal you, and through that suffering, you grow closer to him.The plot also feels quite relevant for our current time with the last pope sounding a lot like Francis. This isn't a lame attempt of being trendy and more of a story about hope and positive change inspired by recent developments in the Vatican IMO.
From what I have heard so far the movie was successful in Italy too.
But if you want a really simple answer: monks, cardinals and samurai are just made for yaoi and as we all know gay relationships among clergies aren't unthinkable.

No.9024
>>9022Discords are so horrible. My main problem isn't even the trans shit per se, but how it exemplifies of a central problem of discord groups that is the hivemind mentality that makes most of the users become annoying yes-men just for the sake of fitting in.
Like in a small discord I am in one of the users is sometimes posting photos when she's in a car and the photos are just.. bland as shit. It's literally just generic fucking streets and maybe a few generic trees. They're so bland that I was puzzled the first time and thinking she was trying to tell us something but no. It was just supposed to be pretty and the five other users besides me praised HOW PRETTY it was and I was sitting there, baffled.
There is no way anybody would ever consider these random photos pretty as fuck. Maybe not bad, but certainly not awesome. If it was at least showing a pretty sunset or something it would be okay, but like that?
Anyway this is an example but you know what I am getting at here. Discord users openly lie without shame just for the positive vibes or something or as silent agreement to demand the same reaction when they eventually post something. And it's just too fucking stupid for me. I can't deal with this. I just can't.
One day someone will post a photo of literal dog shit and they will go "OMG THIS IS SO PRETTYTZDATGFWTCFW"

>>9017>(calling yourself innocent as a papal title? Damn)This actually has a long tradition and
Benítez would be the 14th, so his name is Innocent XIV. The name doesn't necessarily mean that he sees himself as fully innocent (and the other Innocents certainly weren't) but that he tries to act that way or holds that virtue in high regard. Like I am damn sure that Tedesco would call himself Pius (and he would be Pius the XIII) No.9027

Just relapsed into anime/manga for the first time since like 2013 and I’m grappling with the lifespan of fandoms nowadays. Like, there are a couple of communities I’m in where people keep decrying that certain series are “dead” once the manga concludes. And yeah, I get the usual spiels about how nothing is dead if fans keep it alive, making fan content for old media is fun and shouldn’t be weird, and so on and so forth. But half the time in these cases the anime isn’t even CLOSE to being done, and on top of that a lot of people confess to being anime-only fans (or at the very least consuming the manga through caps on xitter or tiktok). So wtf is going on there? Is the hype and fandom energy really gone the second a story finishes? Do things get fun again when a season begins or a movie releases?? Or do they just act like they dgaf??? I feel too old for this, nonnas.

>>9027It's a movie about Vatican old man drama that recently started airing in cinemas and streaming platforms. I am one of the two (three?) anons that talked about it before, but didn't play it yet. I think it looks pretty good. It's a fanmade VN though
https://sneckoil.itch.io/delectatio-morosa>>9036THIS is what I am thinking about for years now. Same experiences. The moment the manga ends the fandom is dead, regardless of the anime.
My guess is that the real, obsessed fans are introduced by the anime but move to the manga afterwards since they don't want to wait for the next season and it's these very fans that keep fandoms alive in the first place since casuals don't engage with it. The latter just binge a series and start right with the next one after it's over. They don't talk about the former story or hype it up and they don't create or share fan works either.

>>9039I think it's possible to find some examples from various eras (mostly 17th-18th) that resemble the basic ouji look, with the main difference being that stockings were always covered by the trousers, you don't see any bare skin. Ouji bottoms range from poofy 17/16th century looking pantaloons to 18th century breeches or poofy breeches. Sometimes you get cravats, sometimes ribbon ties. Coat shapes are also usually between the 18th-19th century range. Lace cuffs, collars and capelets are also all 17th century men's fashion features, while frilly shirts are more 18th.
Lolita inspiration is a bit wider, I have seen everything from 18th to mid 20th century.
Ciel (and Alois) kind of look like they're just wearing Victorian men's fashion but with ouji shorts pasted on.
Tangent but considering some of the hideous real life Victorian dresses I have seen, I think that pink evening dress Ciel wore could actually fit right in…
(And I am now remembering that apparently in the early manga Ciel had a Nintendo DS and there have been various early installment weirdness anachronisms around, so maybe it was never originally intended to be a period piece…)
Anyway yeah, ouji and lolita are a mashup of inspiration from various eras and then mixed in with punk features and kawaii aesthetic on top of that.

>>9043Wait, are you telling me that shit actually gets more historically accurate? I dropped it due to the OG manga not being accurate enough.
No.9045
>>9040You put it into words exactly. Very accurate observation. And what really bothers me is that I have no idea when this phenomenon began or why. Like, I’m dating myself here, but I had a huge FMA phase and that fandom was still fun and fairly active even years after Brotherhood was over. And that seemed totally normal to me. No one was like, “hey, we’re dragging around a corpse,” at least not insofar as I recall. That was just the expected function of fandoms.
Then, hard cut to 2025, half of my feed on any fandom acct is zoomers lamenting their halcyon days of being in a certain fandom… four months ago. Like WHAT. It really seems like there’s too much focus on the “omg what’s gonna happen next” aspect of following a story, as opposed to the more analytical view which usually results in more fanworks and discussions.

>>9049I'm not going to criticize Japan for their takes on European fashion when 19th century European weebs were importing kimono but only used them as sexy dressing gowns kek. Even today, people who buy fancy kimono just to collect and display them are a reason artisans are dying out. And now you have 'kimono' used as a term for certain types of vaguely tube sleeve-shaped cardigans in western fashion that don't resemble kimono at all.
I'm also a big fan of Meiji-Taisho era blend of western and Japanese fashion, it's really fascinating.
Japanese/other Asian romanticized views of Europe are definitely funny sometimes though. I think the apex of this is those villainess isekai webtoons.

I probably already said this on the prior random thoughts thread, but seriously /cm/ is so infested with legitimate pedos using shota as their refuge and it makes me sick. Lolifags are usually edgelords that like being controversial but male shotacons have such an "earnest pedo" vibe that makes my skin crawl
No.9061
>>9058Yep. Every time i go on there for their image threads i feel as if i just stepped into a gay pedophile therapy group. It's completely expected but it doesn't make the sour taste in your mouth go away
No.9062
>>9058I don't go on /cm/ but this reminds me of how the twitter algo sent me an account which retweeted cute shota art which was fine but then the same person would make texts posts like "Imagine touching your little brother" and that also gave me legitimate pedo creep vibes.
No.9063
>>9058You read my mind because i wanted to complain about this. From anons saying shit like “i wish i had a bf like this when i was a shota!”, talking about their irl experiences as kids, and a guy listing a real little boy as sexy in the husbando template thread its clear atleast half the posters are just gay pedophiles.
Semi related, i can usually ignore 4chan misogyny because it’s expected but cm users hate women so much it’s insane, especially with how much art women contribute to the “cute male” genre. They fap to female drawn shotas constantly but sperg out at the mere idea of a woman coming near their male-pedo-only zone.

>>9058During the April Fools' event I saw people complaining that "female shotacons are waging war on /cm/ and ruining the board for everyone," and for months I have had any mention of shota or kemono filtered on the catalog so I saw absolutely nothing. Currently 24 threads hidden by filters, and some of the ones not caught are also being dumped with shota pinups.
I saw people expressing shock that loli is allowed on /b/ still and there's no hosting issues there. For some reason I'd just assumed that it was only loli and the loli posters had been driven out by general normalfag porn spam, but people were posting shota during the mess and isn't that what they want? A board where they can blogpost and post explicit shota? It can't possibly be as fast as old /b/ was, so surely at some point that's viable.
>>9062Even if you ignore their interest in underage characters as context, the appeal in that sentence is a power imbalance that's kept secret (within the family), and I don't know about you guys but I feel guilt self inserting into something like that. I can't do that shit without a proxy (ie. character to ship) and there's some abject response in my head if I think of it too directly. Give me something more to work with or it's fucky.
No.9083
>>9063I swear this all started with the drama in 2020 when gays on other boards started getting pissy that the words "husbando" and "boy" were being used to mean grown human men and not furries or children. The shotafags in that fight were pissy as hell and moved to /cm/, the furries stayed put and blogposted until the mods started slapping them, and then they started accusing anti-furs of picking on their gay relationship talk. I stopped watching for a few years and they've dispersed
somewhere. Now I'm seeing more and more furry content on every board and it generally follows the same pattern whether it's male or female furs being posted: 1) repost the same images as the last thread, 2) make thirsty comments and ask what if YOU had the gf/bf, 3) start bitching that people hate furries and then deliberately post art nobody wants to get a reaction and accuse fellow furries of being anti-furry. I'm stupid and impulsively open those threads when they bypass my filter so I can report the literal furaffinity filename western art.
Sorry for the tangent, but both the furries and the shotafags have this cheeky attitude like they know they're starting shit and post things to get a rise out of people and when they don't they fight among themselves or target other posters with "this would be better if they were children." I can't stand that. It's obnoxious.
>>9071I didn't realize Dragon Quest had quite so many ball gowns and dessert forks.

>>9058To be a moid into shota you really need to be neck deep into coomerism, i.e. loli isn't taboo enough anymore so little boys are the next high. So it's only natural that they would give off actual pedo vibes. But
>>9083 is also right, just like furry degenerates they also love getting a rise out of people and post the most degenerate shit simply because they want attention.
No.9087
>>9063I made my post because I went to look at /cm/ a little after the shitty april fools that happened, and stumbled upon a "shotas done for the female gaze" thread which seemed kinda odd to me because, isn't most shota art done by fujos? It was kind of weird to phrase the thread like that and I thought that at least maybe there'd be some typical fujo drawn shotas but it was full of /co/ shit and not only was it full of /co/ shit, there were two autists in the thread trying to dissect fujos/women and then justifying how males understand the boyish appeal better because the romans used to fuck little boys or whatever and it gave me covet pedo vibes.
>>9085See, the thing is, there are coomers and edgelords that just jack off to anything. That's one thing, but then there's the male shotacon that tries to show you studies and graphs about boylove and how it all used to be ok years ago and yadda yadda, the pseudo-self inserting and the attempts to mask it as if "I'm not trying to hurt anyone I swear I only like shos" just gives me a feeling of being more earnest about it, thus being more possible of being an actual pedo rather than just the "edgy" coomer type.
No.9088
>>9058I think the exact opposite way you do. Its worse that loli has gotten as normalized as it has.
