>>7984>Wouldn't surprise me if episode 1 filtered people with that blushing Tokiyuki scene. From what I understood casuals don't even notice that scene or don't think much about it, at least not the ones I talked to. For them it seems to be either the historical setting ("history is always lame I want fantasy") or the "tonal whiplash", they cannot parse the humor of this series. I feel like some people need the series to tell them whether it's funny or serious and stick to one of this otherwise they don't know what to think.
The common reason for skipping on it though is simply "haven't heard of it/[platform/friends] didn't recommend it". I don't remember the anime fanbase to be so passive in the past. It's like nobody is watching anything but the most hyped show that the mindhive chooses as the respective FOTM/AOTS.

>>7993>I don't remember the anime fanbase to be so passive in the past Some people need the sense of community and fanfiction nowadays, without it then a story by itself isn't enough.
No.7996
>>7995It's depressing how many fans I have seen the last 10 years that openly said they're abandoning a fandom because they don't get enough likes to "boost" their hobby career. None of these people even talked about 5 likes or kudos, they were in fandoms that gave them hundreds. But this isn't enough so they started writing for Genshin or other gacha or they swap the fandom every few months depending on what's the current FOTM.

Some people’s brains are just wired to love main characters. You could take the most basic, NPC-ass character ever, put them in the main role, and suddenly it’s ZOMG! they’re literally me! but if the same character was just a supporting character no one would remember they existed. It just goes to show how much character role matters, not even the screen time just the role they will be playing

Does anyone in Japan find racism a core issue in the Enstars debacle or is it fully the "anyway enjoy NEW Akatsuki nobody asked for, please forget about the unit you knew for 10 years" aspect?
No.8007
>>8006Not as much as the West. I saw one Japanese user bringing up the racism aspect and it had around 2k likes. The framing around it was pretty different too, in English circles you'd have people saying "the dynamic being changed doesn't matter at all, only the racism" etc etc while JP players that did mention it didn't make it into a one or the other thing.
And actually, if you search up 琉球 紅月 on Twitter you'll see some JP users referencing it as a Western controversy lol.
No.8008
>>8003I often think about this and I hate saying it but I believe it happens to the majority because the majority is hardwired to fall for any kind framing and are easy to manipulate so they like whatever MC, celebrity or politician they're getting exposed to the most, regardless of how good or bad they are.
This doesn't mean that (you) are one of them for casually preferring a MC. But a lot of people are incapable of carting about anybody but them, always fall for them and are blind for the rest or even dislike side characters with the exact same personality.
Most MCs are just bland as fuck because first they lack knowledge and professionality and have a less defined personality since they're representing the average Joe. Secondly they get TOO much screentime, eventually boring you with them (compare that to the villains that usually appear with a BOOM and only when they're about to do cool shit), thirdly the writers cannot take many risks with them. Making the MC morally gray is risky and potentially offensive and same with homosexuality, kinks and other shit. You just have more creative leeway with the antagonists and side characters which is why they are usually the best.

Attention! This is a Konohara Narise appreciation post.
I LIKE KONOHARA NARISE! The tropes she uses hit pretty well for me, and the work is usually interesting enough that even when I'm not really into a specific couple, I'll still read it for the story. Novels are very hit or miss, but her's are usually a hit. She just has that something. And she's been writing BL since 1996, pure dedication! Lots of new translations for her stuff went up in December or so, so I'm on a big KN binge right now. I had no one else to tell this to, so I'm posting here, idk if this is even the best thread for it.
No.8016
>>8015Sounds like I need to check something of her's out then. Which story would you rec someone to get a feel for her writing?
No.8017
>>8016Some of her recurring tropes are one sided loves, or at least very unequal (one guy obsessive or carrying a torch for a guy for a long time, other often neutral), regular type guys like salarymen or low wage workers, family drama, slice of life and mundanity, and honestly…rather boring everyday guys. Sex is also more like an emotional story point, not really hot like a smutty one shot fic. I put this upfront cuz it's kind of a specific style, you will either really like some of her stuff or not at all imo, so if it's not your cup of tea after a couple of chapters feel free to drop it. My top fav is Hako No Naka, if you read just one from her I hope it's this one. From ones I've recently, "A Disgusting Guy" if you like an angsty, toxic codependence that isn't really a satisfying lovey-dovey romance.
No.8019
>>8017I also second Hako No Naka, my irl fujo friend recommended to me and it's great.
No.8021
>>7974In my fandom people don't tag on twitter and most of the artists I've found don't draw characters or ships I'm particularly interested in. Fansites back in the day were well tagged though so it would be an improvement if not for Japanese hosting services going pay only or disappearing entirely and nuking everything. I wish they were more inclined to preservation autism like the west.
>>8003>>8008That's an interesting theory. It's such a red flag when someone only cares about main characters (who I agree are mostly boring), characters who show up early, or otherwise as exactly the same things as everyone else. It's like they didn't even finish the source material.

Most of the fanart became lost media when they shut down, unless people reposted the works on pixiv or Tumblr. But it's fun to watch with people for the sakka and friendship. Lots of famous seiyuu too.
Eventually I got distracted by other shows and dropped it.

>>8039The only one in my periphery ended up getting into AA and seems chill. I'm glad it's over as well, can't imagine getting into youtubers, years ago PewdieCry equally baffled me.
If it's a long gone historical figure like presidents, composers, kings, scientists, ect those people might as well be characters, with contemporary figures, especially youtubers not only do I think its a bit of a privacy invasion, but their "story" isn't done and they are liable to end up as terrible people or end up in controversy.

>I'm so glad the minecraft youtuber craze is finally fucking over thank the fucking lord but I sometimes wonder if there were seriously any comitted fujosWell there was DNF but it was fumbled so badly due to one person being such a lolcow that the tumblr people don't really fuck with them anymore. I only see it when I go deliberately check dream fans' pages.
>I could never understand getting into RPF or semi-RPFFor youtubers, you are mostly guaranteed consistent content until they quit due to burnout. They operate on the same basis as gacha games do where you're guaranteed at least some entertaining personality to latch on to.

>>8045>Well there was DNF but it was fumbled so badly due to one person being such a lolcow that the tumblr people don't really fuck with them anymoreThe downfall of Dream will always be funny to me. He was obviously a run-of-the-mill centrist/apolitical guy but because of his fanbase spent years pandering to zoomers that would make callouts over every small thing on a regular basis. Apparently he called another YTer a retard on Twitter recently so he's completely done with the act kek.
I think a lot of DNF shippers that aren't into Minecraft anymore moved onto whatever the next FOTM Tiktok yaoi ships followed, i.e. Wolfstar/Jegulus and Ivantill. I always considered these people "bandwagon" types of shippers because they seem to live and die by the algorithm and their own timelines.

Man I wish Infinity nikki wasn't a gacha. The premise of the game sounds like something I could have fun with but I already wasted enough hours of my life on making myself suffer with premium currency fomo back when I was into idol boy games, FGO and GBF.
No.8061
>>8051I wish people would use gacha as pool to fish from when they're creating new series.
Like FGO for example has a ton of fantastic designs and good characters and ideas. But it's gacha so it's "okay with some hype scenes" at best. They should scan the game for the coolest servants and use them for an original Fate novel instead of having them being gacha locked. I would be hyped as fuck having Douman or Shi Huang Di in an own series, but having them appear in a FGO anime adaption makes me feel indifferent about it. Especially since every servant gets degraded to just one out of hundreds

I honestly can't deal with homophobic fujos and they always make me uncomfortable as someone who even now is in a lesbian relationship. It's one thing to have a problem with misogyny in the gay male community but too often it crosses over to just the territory of hating homosexuality in general and being into yaoi simply for the "I don't have any female competition here so I can imagine both of these guys fucking ME" yume aspect which to me just beats the purpose of enjoying a relationship between these two characters. And even if you have an actual problem with gay men just keep it to yourself, you don't need to sperg about how much you hate IRL faggots and faggot this and faggot that like an edgy 13-year old.
No.8081
>>8080Agree, fujo has become just another contrarian label which brings in all sorts of edgelords only as a form of rebellion with no regard to the essence of the community. They don't read BL (because it's boring to them) and only read NSFW fanfics and play R-18 VNs skipping the plot to get to the sex scenes. If even that, it feels like some of them just watch the CG scenes online and don't touch the games besides consuming more r34 fanart. And even that I wouldn't really have that much of a problem with, but then they can't shut up about how much they hate BL with no sex or that the characters are "too much like IRL faggots" i.e. have feelings and defined personalities and how fujos enjoying that have shit taste and aren't ~based~ enough. Give these people two years and they'll be into catgirl futa or some other moidy form of porn and preach about how all fujos are just pornbrained misogynistic coomers because that's how they were during their own fujo phase.
No.8082
>>8079I'd admit, as a straight Fujo who vibes in a few communities, it's oxymoronic to reduce a relationship to a fetish but we all have our reasons. I like men. Two men is better than one. And you know what makes it better? Letting them be vulnerable for once in their pitifully short lives. The interplay of eroticism and intrigue is what draws me into BL not just two men fucking.

No.8084
>>8079I have luckily most just seen this when I used LC for a short while but rarely outside of it. I generally can't stand it when people are bringing politics into fandoms, let alone making the fandom itself political. Doesn't matter if it's wokes or rightwinge or whatever other shit exists.
I noticed that fujo/yume mixes (so fans that do both) are usually super chill but yume-exclusives are a recipe for drama and hatred for some reason.
They are also very likely to either troon out or cuntboy'ing the characters at some point because they can only like a male/male pairing for so long until they turn it into lesbians or hets.
No.8085
>>8081>hate BL with no sex or that the characters are "too much like IRL faggots" i.e. have feelings and defined personalities and how fujos enjoying that have shit taste and aren't ~based~ enough. Holy shit I recently got into a bunch of arguments because of this. Never encountered it before but suddenly(?) there seems to be some subculture in the fujo fandom that hates on every nuanced character and masculine 2D man. I like both and happened to encounter this type of fujos on image boards and discords now. They basically called me out for supporting real men or something because I don't fap to 6 year old shota and multi-colored twinks.
I feel like almost everybody I am talking to nowadays was an angry incel from 4chan because these people say the exact same shit about anime women that are too mature, realistic or "3DPD-like" and calling everybody liking them a "normalfag that hates anime and manga".
I don't even care about "fujo" as a label. I am a fujo based on the things I draw and enjoy but tbh I hate how obsessed everybody is with labeling nowadays. To a point at which they even try to stigmatize fans that enjoyed a thing for 20+ years as fakers. Bitches I was already drawing yaoi of Satan when you weren't even born yet.
Just let me enjoy my ugly 2D ojisan, dammit.

Is Bravern like a T&B situation where it's decently liked in Japan but non-existent to English viewers? I guess I'm not surprised because it's two beefy dudes in a mecha series but pretty sad considering how homo it is.
I was thinking about the state of fujos today and I honestly hate how dominant Hoyoshit pairings are, considering how bland they tend to be. I remember as a (pre)teen there was a variety of fujobait series you could cycle through like K, Servamp, Yowapeda, etc. Everything seems lame now but I might just be romanticizing it.
