Me too. I read zoomer talk like /hj as slash handjob and /pos as piece of shit. Found out they stand for "half joking" and 'positive". "/gen" isn't general, it's "genuine". And ijbol isn't a play on IDpol, it's "I just burst out laughing". What happened to lol and lmao?

>Wouldn't surprise me if episode 1 filtered people with that blushing Tokiyuki scene.
From what I understood casuals don't even notice that scene or don't think much about it, at least not the ones I talked to. For them it seems to be either the historical setting ("history is always lame I want fantasy") or the "tonal whiplash", they cannot parse the humor of this series. I feel like some people need the series to tell them whether it's funny or serious and stick to one of this otherwise they don't know what to think.

The common reason for skipping on it though is simply "haven't heard of it/[platform/friends] didn't recommend it". I don't remember the anime fanbase to be so passive in the past. It's like nobody is watching anything but the most hyped show that the mindhive chooses as the respective FOTM/AOTS.

Some people need the sense of community and fanfiction nowadays, without it then a story by itself isn't enough.

It's depressing how many fans I have seen the last 10 years that openly said they're abandoning a fandom because they don't get enough likes to "boost" their hobby career. None of these people even talked about 5 likes or kudos, they were in fandoms that gave them hundreds. But this isn't enough so they started writing for Genshin or other gacha or they swap the fandom every few months depending on what's the current FOTM.

Some people’s brains are just wired to love main characters. You could take the most basic, NPC-ass character ever, put them in the main role, and suddenly it’s ZOMG! they’re literally me! but if the same character was just a supporting character no one would remember they existed. It just goes to show how much character role matters, not even the screen time just the role they will be playing

Does anyone in Japan find racism a core issue in the Enstars debacle or is it fully the "anyway enjoy NEW Akatsuki nobody asked for, please forget about the unit you knew for 10 years" aspect?

 No.8007

>>8006
Not as much as the West. I saw one Japanese user bringing up the racism aspect and it had around 2k likes. The framing around it was pretty different too, in English circles you'd have people saying "the dynamic being changed doesn't matter at all, only the racism" etc etc while JP players that did mention it didn't make it into a one or the other thing.

And actually, if you search up 琉球 紅月 on Twitter you'll see some JP users referencing it as a Western controversy lol.

 No.8008

>>8003
I often think about this and I hate saying it but I believe it happens to the majority because the majority is hardwired to fall for any kind framing and are easy to manipulate so they like whatever MC, celebrity or politician they're getting exposed to the most, regardless of how good or bad they are.
This doesn't mean that (you) are one of them for casually preferring a MC. But a lot of people are incapable of carting about anybody but them, always fall for them and are blind for the rest or even dislike side characters with the exact same personality.

Most MCs are just bland as fuck because first they lack knowledge and professionality and have a less defined personality since they're representing the average Joe. Secondly they get TOO much screentime, eventually boring you with them (compare that to the villains that usually appear with a BOOM and only when they're about to do cool shit), thirdly the writers cannot take many risks with them. Making the MC morally gray is risky and potentially offensive and same with homosexuality, kinks and other shit. You just have more creative leeway with the antagonists and side characters which is why they are usually the best.

Attention! This is a Konohara Narise appreciation post.

I LIKE KONOHARA NARISE! The tropes she uses hit pretty well for me, and the work is usually interesting enough that even when I'm not really into a specific couple, I'll still read it for the story. Novels are very hit or miss, but her's are usually a hit. She just has that something. And she's been writing BL since 1996, pure dedication! Lots of new translations for her stuff went up in December or so, so I'm on a big KN binge right now. I had no one else to tell this to, so I'm posting here, idk if this is even the best thread for it.

 No.8016

>>8015
Sounds like I need to check something of her's out then. Which story would you rec someone to get a feel for her writing?

 No.8017

>>8016
Some of her recurring tropes are one sided loves, or at least very unequal (one guy obsessive or carrying a torch for a guy for a long time, other often neutral), regular type guys like salarymen or low wage workers, family drama, slice of life and mundanity, and honestly…rather boring everyday guys. Sex is also more like an emotional story point, not really hot like a smutty one shot fic. I put this upfront cuz it's kind of a specific style, you will either really like some of her stuff or not at all imo, so if it's not your cup of tea after a couple of chapters feel free to drop it. My top fav is Hako No Naka, if you read just one from her I hope it's this one. From ones I've recently, "A Disgusting Guy" if you like an angsty, toxic codependence that isn't really a satisfying lovey-dovey romance.

That's an interesting theory. It's such a red flag when someone only cares about main characters (who I agree are mostly boring), characters who show up early, or otherwise as exactly the same things as everyone else. It's like they didn't even finish the source material.

I was following InaIre when Drawr was around (a type of tegaki thing like what the kids are doing on Straw pages now). Most of the fanart became lost media when they shut down, unless people reposted the works on pixiv or Tumblr. But it's fun to watch with people for the sakka and friendship. The downfall of Dream will always be funny to me. He was obviously a run-of-the-mill centrist/apolitical guy but because of his fanbase spent years pandering to zoomers that would make callouts over every small thing on a regular basis. Apparently he called another YTer a retard on Twitter recently so he's completely done with the act kek.

I think a lot of DNF shippers that aren't into Minecraft anymore moved onto whatever the next FOTM Tiktok yaoi ships followed, i.e. Wolfstar/Jegulus and Ivantill. I always considered these people "bandwagon" types of shippers because they seem to live and die by the algorithm and their own timelines.

I wish people would use gacha as pool to fish from when they're creating new series.
Like FGO for example has a ton of fantastic designs and good characters and ideas. But it's gacha so it's "okay with some hype scenes" at best. They should scan the game for the coolest servants and use them for an original Fate novel instead of having them being gacha locked. I would be hyped as fuck having Douman or Shi Huang Di in an own series, but having them appear in a FGO anime adaption makes me feel indifferent about it. Especially since every servant gets degraded to just one out of hundreds

I honestly can't deal with homophobic fujos and they always make me uncomfortable as someone who even now is in a lesbian relationship. It's one thing to have a problem with misogyny in the gay male community but too often it crosses over to just the territory of hating homosexuality in general and being into yaoi simply for the "I don't have any female competition here so I can imagine both of these guys fucking ME" yume aspect which to me just beats the purpose of enjoying a relationship between these two characters. And even if you have an actual problem with gay men just keep it to yourself, you don't need to sperg about how much you hate IRL faggots and faggot this and faggot that like an edgy 13-year old.

Honestly in recent years I think some people adopt the fujo label just to piss off certain people and don't actually enjoy yaoi in earnest. Makes me sad and frustrated when people expend so much effort to complain about a supposed anti-fujo task force, but don't just spend that effort… actually producing and consuming yaoi fanworks and series. If you don't like real men, just don't acknowledge or talk to real men, I don't even see them comment on yaoi much, the "IRL faggot" is not a factor in 2D men kissing lol.

 No.8081

>>8080
Agree, fujo has become just another contrarian label which brings in all sorts of edgelords only as a form of rebellion with no regard to the essence of the community. They don't read BL (because it's boring to them) and only read NSFW fanfics and play R-18 VNs skipping the plot to get to the sex scenes. If even that, it feels like some of them just watch the CG scenes online and don't touch the games besides consuming more r34 fanart. And even that I wouldn't really have that much of a problem with, but then they can't shut up about how much they hate BL with no sex or that the characters are "too much like IRL faggots" i.e. have feelings and defined personalities and how fujos enjoying that have shit taste and aren't ~based~ enough. Give these people two years and they'll be into catgirl futa or some other moidy form of porn and preach about how all fujos are just pornbrained misogynistic coomers because that's how they were during their own fujo phase.

I noticed that fujo/yume mixes (so fans that do both) are usually super chill but yume-exclusives are a recipe for drama and hatred for some reason.
They are also very likely to either troon out or cuntboy'ing the characters at some point because they can only like a male/male pairing for so long until they turn it into lesbians or hets.

>hate BL with no sex or that the characters are "too much like IRL faggots" i.e. have feelings and defined personalities and how fujos enjoying that have shit taste and aren't ~based~ enough.
Holy shit I recently got into a bunch of arguments because of this. Never encountered it before but suddenly(?) there seems to be some subculture in the fujo fandom that hates on every nuanced character and masculine 2D man. I like both and happened to encounter this type of fujos on image boards and discords now. They basically called me out for supporting real men or something because I don't fap to 6 year old shota and multi-colored twinks.

I feel like almost everybody I am talking to nowadays was an angry incel from 4chan because these people say the exact same shit about anime women that are too mature, realistic or "3DPD-like" and calling everybody liking them a "normalfag that hates anime and manga".

I don't even care about "fujo" as a label. I am a fujo based on the things I draw and enjoy but tbh I hate how obsessed everybody is with labeling nowadays. To a point at which they even try to stigmatize fans that enjoyed a thing for 20+ years as fakers. Bitches I was already drawing yaoi of Satan when you weren't even born yet.
Just let me enjoy my ugly 2D ojisan, dammit.

Is Bravern like a T&B situation where it's decently liked in Japan but non-existent to English viewers? I guess I'm not surprised because it's two beefy dudes in a mecha series but pretty sad considering how homo it is.

I was thinking about the state of fujos today and I honestly hate how dominant Hoyoshit pairings are, considering how bland they tend to be. I wouldn't say non-existent since there are definitely western fans, but I think the men being a bit more muscular/mature is driving away younger people who probably would have enjoyed the story like you said. Unfortunately my bara acquaintances are the only people I know into it, no fujos.

Hoyo is "free" and is designed to print money so it's no wonder it is a dominating presence but I still see variety under the surface. Off the top of my head for 2020 fandoms: Sk8 as another nonna mentioned in the anime thread has a lot of different body types and ages so it's managed to capture a wide swath of different fans, Geass and One Piece both saw a bit of a revival due to new iterations. Trigun's remake series brought with it a new set of incest fans and revitalized the older fandom, and I don't watch new Shonen anymore but I know that BnHA still has a shipping fandom as do works like Jujutsu Kaisen and Mashle. I do think there's some rose-tintedness on your part since the big shipping fandoms from my preteen days were just the big three SJs Naruto, Bleach, and One Piece and then Clamp series. People always gravitate to what's popular and accessible, and I'm sure if mobile games had been a thing in 2008 that's what would have been big as well.

Funny because I thought the same shit an hour ago after I realised that almost everybody I talk to is either a tiktok addict (regardless of age) or playing Hoyo crap all day. No wonder nobody watches anything anymore or plays any new games if they are busy with these. I don't think that the big ships in the past were much better but what bothers me is that I feel like everything is focused on the big few these days. I probably imagine it, but nowadays I feel like the west chooses one (1) single anime or game they choose to care about and completely ignore everything else.

>>8090
Same here. I watched Bravern for the two dudes and the mecha and realised how extreme the discrepancy between the hype in Asia and the west is. Same with my current fandom. I am literally the only western artist for it because the dudes I love are again muscular and mature and just as with Bravern the setting is also driving westerners away. The only western fans (not even artists) I see for this series coom to the lolis of course.

I partly blame the image anime have in the west. In Japan the demographics of the audience seem to be much broader. Here most anime fans are literal 14 year olds and young teens rarely like beefy dudes, military settings, gritty sci-fi etc.
I know I shouldn't bother and thanks to google translate I can even understand the tweets and raunchy fusetter headcanons of the my fellow Japanese artists. But I still feel sad because I wish I could openly talk and sperg about my series with others that are more or less fluent in English.

This is true, I think "manly-men" are a hard sell for western fujos mainly because they run young, I know I didn't start enjoying characters with muscles and more masculine features until after college. Though this is making me think of the post in the BL manga thread about the author who struggled to sell her "old man yaoi" in Japan and was glad it was getting an English release since 40 year olds are more popular over here. I guess we EN fujos like old men as long as they aren't too manly lol.

 No.8103

>>8101
Yeah it was similar for me. I liked DBZ dudes with 14 but outside of that I stuck to bishounen like Sephiroth, Kaworu etc. It was only when I hit the 20s that I was actively seeking out mature and muscular characters and by that age many others don't even watch anime anymore. I hate to say it but most of the few other adults I know that still engage with manga/anime are either actual autists, pedos or inherently insecure people in their 30s that don't relate with adults.
> I guess we EN fujos like old men as long as they aren't too manly lol.
I think part of the reason is just that she compares the Japanese audience with the English speaking twitter audience which is basically global. EN isn't just the US or the UK, Germans, Italians, Mexicans, many Brazilians, Russians and others are speaking English on twitter. I don't think that old men are more popular among western fans, just that the English speaking audience on twitter is thousand times bigger. Her yaoi might not even be unpopular for the old men but because the typical Japanese (and western) yaoi fan isn't into that and the rest simply never didn't know these manga existed before that one post blew up on twitter.

I think that this is generally the problem with manga. A LOT of mature characters or series could be super popular here, but the type of people that like these genres ignore anime and manga to begin with because the impression that manga was nothing but isekai, moe, pedo fanservice and harem is just too strong. I am 100% convinced that my own country would LOVE the shit out of Monster. But since everybody deems animation "shit for kids" they haven't even dubbed it.

Could never get into them either but I understand nonna. I wouldn't call them ugly though rather a bit too cartoony and non-human for me, lel. FKMT characters are hot as shit though, I agree. Albeit even there it's funny, because while I call FKMT dudes "ugly" myself technically they aren't. They are untypical and maybe ugly judged by the common beauty standard of anime/manga that value angelic, very young faces.

But if FKMT characters were real they would count as handsome dudes I think. Tonegawa, Washizu and such are technically top tier elegant men that aged like wine. It's harder to imagine with Hyoudou and his son, but tbh if you would sketch many prominent and popular real men they would probably be uglier.

I think we all agree that the dynamics are important though. I am currently obsessed with some dudes from elusive samurai that I genuinely considered ugly until I got into them and brainwashed myself into thinking that they're super cute and hot (or maybe I was brainwashed before and am now able to see the truth).

Not into BLmatsu anymore but it's the opposite for me. I think it's the fact that the designs are still "cute" looking even if a bit Tumblr that enabled me to ship them. It's the same deal with South Park for me even though they're basically just bobble heads. Whereas I can't get into FKMT yaoi at all for the life of me because the art style has zero moe or bishie/ikemen appeal. There's this one artist I follow that draws Kaiji ships with a bishie style but I don't think I could ever be truly invested in it because I just remember the original art. Still a good series though.

I know I am a petty fag for complaining but I hate how much tiktok has infected everybody with its bullshit, including non-zoomers. I miss the times when fans would make up headcanons to fill gaps of the story instead of posting trendy shit and saying "that's him/them!" and going "OOOOOOOUUUUU YOU'RE RIGHT".

I talk to multiple groups of adult, mostly western fans and besides of one place the chat groups feel more like tiktok fanclubs than fan spaces and it makes me feel like a boomer even though half of the fans are of the same age as me (~30) and the rest in their 20s. But everybody seems to link shitty meme videos that have absolutely zero in common with the series we're fan of or the characters but claim it was totally them because they can't come up with a single own idea.

Hell, most of the 2D men we like are lone wolf villains from sci-fis, rounin or some grumpy soldiers and they link rap videos with loud annoying US Americans that are trying hard to be funny by screaming but absolutely aren't and say "this is totally the character".

I know it's petty as fuck. I just think about how these fans could contribute so much more to the fandoms if they used all that time with headcanons, art, fics or fusetter notes like the Japanese do instead of being obsessed with unfunny wannabe ganstar tiktok.

I know I'm reaching sometimes with my bad jokes, but at least they're usually within similar confines to the canon and not representative of some American cultural stereotype I don't even know.

Actually fuck, I should take this to vent but I think I said it before. One of my favs raps in a few character songs. He's the designated rap guy. He's Japanese, Japanese name, lives in Japan, black hair, dark eyes, peach skin. 80% of the memes about him are slapping him on black people or ebonics because rap. Oh my fucking god, this. It's annoying as shit. What I get is usually not mean spirited but it's stupid as shit. Usually it's loud black US zoomers doing some fortnite-like dance with retarded rap music and for the fans those people are somehow exactly the same as a king from a manga taking place in 1500 or a wandering samurai because… NOBODY knows. It's "the vibes". Somehow the image of the character they have in mind is has nothing to do with the canon version.

I also never know what to say when people link me that shit. And it's always tiktok or instagram. I would be more tolerant if it was at least funny on its own but it never is. It's just loud and annoying and it always makes me feel second-hand embarrassment.

I can't say what the ship or series is because it would give away my anonymity, but I read through and looked at almost all of the content for my ship. I'm now extremely depressed. There's lots and lots of art for each of the characters since they both are extremely popular, but I'm talking about content tagged with the ship name.

It sucks because the series is about to end and nobody knows or cares about it in the west. Before anyone says to make content myself, I have been making lots and lots of fanart and am starting work on a dj / e-comic. Why do I have to be autistically invested in things nobody else in the west cares about? The ship isn't very accessible either. Why? Just why? I'm addicted. There are NO English speaking fans. I might commission my friends to draw them. It just hurts and I'm sure everyone else here has experienced what I'm talking about.

And if the /sh/ board still existed it'd be automatically hidden so those nonnas don't have to see it. Same here. I am the only western fan drawing fanart of my ship and while the series isn't as big like JJK or such it's a Jump shounen that you can read translated for free on mangaplus so you would assume that westerners cared, but they don't.
I cannot even openly talk about it since I would reveal who I am. And I wish I could talk about my ship but since I don't speak any Asian language all I can do is to use the translator tool to understand what other fans tweeting, but this is different from actually chatting and speculating with each other.

A lot of Japanese fusetter headcanons for my ship(s) are super interesting too, but I just cannot speak about it aaaaaaaaaaa
At best I can write a short tweet saying some basic grammar shit like "This idea is very interesting!" because I can speak Japanese just well enough for simple sentences like that.

The question of why westerners never care is a constant topic on FC. Yesterday some nonnas speculated it might be related to the audience/readerbase for anime/manga in the west which are not only smaller than in Japan, they also seem to be more age-restricted. In the west you only have fanbases for mainstream anime like SxF, DDD etc. or nothing it seems. And even for the mainstream shit westerners only seem to care for the MCs and rarely ship side-characters, let alone antagonists.

No, but I think it could be a springboard for an interesting BL fanfic. Stories with genderbending a good for setting up an "I'm not gay!" Crisis when the non-genderswaped guy realizes that he is also attracted to the "real" guy underneath the girl form.
One other interesting one I liked when I was a kid was "Your & My Secret aka My Barbaric Girlfriend" which had the man guy basically realize he was attracted to another guy while in a girl's body. I was always disappointed that never went anywhere, lol.

I think while men are more purely into the aesthetics, women are more into interpersonal dynamics and therefore the underlying… personality essence? Of characters. Like how most fujos like rather fixed top/bottom (or dom/sub) dynamics. So if a woman is in a man's body, she's still essentially a woman and not a man, I guess. It'd personally turn me off and probably plenty of other female readers too I think.

I can only speak for myself but what you described is my mindset even though it doesn't really make sense and I still wouldn't consider that type of series BL. I read Boku Girl where that was the premise and wasn't that put off by it, but I wouldn't touch fujoshi trapped in a seme's body or whatever it's called with a 10 ft poll even if the characters are both physically male. It's mainly because of the narrative of genderbend works - even if the body is changed they'll always hone in and bring up the psychology of the character being their original sex and whatnot since the disconnect between the mind and body is the appeal of those scenarios. There's also the element of "if the creator wanted to do yaoi they would've just written it normally" that makes me not consider either as such lol, same thing with trapshit. I mentally put these types of series in the same category as bisexual and stuff.

Of course, it's not a situation where you're forced to choose one over the other so I haven't bothered with those sorts since.

Based. When I google images I only care about what's shown on those images. And I don't want to see my men being tagged as transgender for no reason.
This is especially enraging when you consider that those websites are pure reposts places. So it's not even the artist tagging it but some rando that interprets it the way they like.
I already had my fanart of BEEFY WARRIORS getting reposted elsewhere and the reposter calling them "lesbians" or "trans visibility" even though I tend to draw men super masculine so I guess they just impose their character shizo headcanons on them, regardless of what they see.

Stupid question but what do you say (if you say anything, that is) if you really like a fanart of an Asian fan and retweet it?

I usually said nothing or rarely made some easy to understand reply in case that they don't really speak English, but I feel bad because almost every Japanese and Chinese fan that retweets my own art is making those separate posts that start with "RT" (basically "about the Retweet:") and praise my shit in detail or be nice, so it feels wrong saying nothing.

Do you write in English or try to form a Japanese or Chinese sentence if you praise? I know a Chinese person so the latter is no problem, for Japanese I have some rudimentary skills so can form simple sentences and double check with google translator, but I can't say more complex shit about it so English would be better I guess?

To me it feels wrong talking in English but it's probably just me. A lot of EOP online act like being from an ENG speaking culture was the standard and assume that everybody spoke it or should accommodate to their culture so it bears some negative associations IMO. My mother tongue is German, but that isn't much better lol

I am probably just paranoid and they would just click the translation tool so it doesn't matter what language I use..

I will only use english if it's an artist who has demonstrated the ability/willingness to communicate in english before.

 No.8186

I think it's because many people think that QRT would "steal" likes since people might retweet and like the QRT instead of the actual pic. I have actually seen this happening because you regular net user is incredibly stupid and lazy, they only click what is fed to them. But that aside the fandoms I am in are usually very nice so it doesn't matter. Some people QRT my stuff and tbh I like it.
The extra tweets with RT are easy to overlook especially if you aren't following the person that makes them. You have to go onto their profile to look for them.

>>8170
In the past I replied too, but I felt like I was urging the artists to reply to my reply then which might be a bother. I myself have issues to answer to praise because I don't know what to say but saying nothing feels like I wasn't cherishing it enough.
My theory is that this is why Japanese do it their own way. Japanese tend to be very discreet and making an own tweet that comments on the fanart seems like you were just talking to yourself, so there is no need to reply and you only see it if you care about it.

For like, two generations you know- post segregation and widespread media, black people had an invincibility shield. Every cartoon needed a black kid. Every TV show needed black people in positive roles. Horror movies became memes for black guys never surviving, ect. And now Indians, lesbians, and in general non-Americans are getting that.

Around 2017 black people lost that shield, despite the history predating it, and they aren't special anymore. As /pol/ as this sounds, we're going to have to endure potentially two generations of pedestal protected treatment before they pull the plug and all of "their" terms turn into points of ridicule and slang. It's like watching an embarrassing parody of the black panther party. Be loud, proud, but instead of dignity and learning law it's dressing like a clown and being aggressively "my identity" in every space possible. While I understand your cynicism, there is indeed a small shift happening with trannies. Ever since Republicans won so much, companies have been dropping troons little by little. Not only pics related as an example, but Mark Zucc also gender is an outdated discourse and that he wants it to not be a priority in his website (source on that https://x.com/esaagar/status/1876612227807236310). Trump also signing an executive order that states men cannot be women and women cannot be men is huge and he also just signed today an executive for trannies in women's prisons to be transferred to men's prisons.
Of course I don't think Trump is a god emperor for this or that Zucc is doing it in good faith and it'll take a while for gender ideology to disappear from the general population, but it's a start and if newer generations start thinking trannies are lame and gross then there'll be hope they don't fall for this nonsense.

The more boys love media we get, the more media with troons in it is made bc companies r going to feel safer with releasing general lgbt content.

I'm probably missing something but that's just my thoughts.

The big problem is that transexuals are how republicans test how much shit they can get away with, right now you might thing that it's good because it targets gendies, but let them and soon enough we'll end up like fujos in china getting jailed for writing gay porn.

Is the Grell thing actually canon? I haven't seen/read all of Black Butler, but I always thought it was a headcanon that English fandom forced on everyone lest they get ostracized.

>The more boys love media we get, the more media with troons in it is made
I mean, I personally haven't really seen a surge in BL adding troon main characters, at worst if they're present they're secondary background characters. Deep down, people still understand that fujos like yaoi because the characters in it are men with dicks and balls. Japan has yet to add cuntboys to BL en masse, the only time I see them is on DLsite fetish comics. Then again, that all depends on JP creators not conceding to Western sensibilities.

Also a great point. Republicans aren't our friends, aren't they already trying to take away gay marriage?

I don't give a fuck about random cartoons that I'm never going to watch, I just don't want vaginas in my BL. Which seems like it's only a problem in western made VNs, comics etc.
I'm more annoyed at transbending in fandom than trans stuff being present in original works.

>Is the Grell thing actually canon?
I thought I heard that Yana actually confirmed it or said that he wants to be a woman but didn't specifically use the word trans. I'm not sure. There seems to be a lot more weight to it being legit compared to a character like Chihiro Fujisaki or something. The line between okama and trans is blurry sometimes, like the okama characters in Gintama, some don't call themselves women but others do, like Grell. But Grell isn't a crossdresser either, so that adds more confusion.

I hate what they did to Bridget. I'll admit that I've never been a guilty gear fan cause I'm not into fighting games but I've always been drawn to cute boys so even then it's just disappointing to hear that a cute crossdressing boy was sacrificed to current year politics.

But with Grell and other fujo-ish franchises like WindBreaker, esemble stars, or paradox live, They're more of an eccentric male archetype than anything else. They look masculine, they have mannish shoulders and muscly legs, man hands, Adam's apples, or facial/leg hair. They're very much portrayed as men, just one that's incredibly eccentric.

Seeing people paying for comms from god awful "tumblr style" artists that don't even get poses right makes me wonder if I live in some sort of parallel reality. Like how does woke brainwashing work? IS it even related to this?

Considering how many western artists are drawing like this or even paying people to draw your manga favs as fat, race-swapped cartoon characters with ugly nose, bad skin and the most disgusting (and revealing) tranny clothes you have ever seen it makes me wonder if it's still just virtue signalling or maybe a genuine liking. Maybe
they actually perceive this shit as sexy, the way that I perceive manly men as sexy even though a heterosexual man or lesbian wouldn't understand.

I cannot imagine that you pay 50-100 EUR/dollars "performatively". And I know someone that draws like too even though literally nobody in our fandom likes it. She has no reason to do it, she isn't trans, she is even a cool person otherwise. So why does she do it? Why does she deliberately draw ugly tumblr style and transwashes her favs even though she never talks about trans otherwise, doesn't headcanon them as such AFAIK and literally self-sabotages because the fandom hates it? There are no wokes to see her deed and praise her. So why??

I haven't seen tumblr style commissions for that much, usually they seem to be in the 20-30 range, but even then I doubt people are dropping down anything over 20 bucks performatively. Sorry in advance if it sounds dumb but I recently noticed I actually don't mind interacting all that much with fandoms of games or stories I like anymore. From middle school to the end of university I was always online because I liked a lot of books, manga and games nobody knew or wanted to talk about irl, and I wanted to talk about these things. I was looking forward to new video game releases but didn't have enough pocket money for them so I had to do a lot of research in retro game stores or online to get second hand copies, I was into a lot of manga I borrowed in the library or bought, and into anime I watched on tv or online if they were on dailymotion but couldn't catch up to these series whenever I wanted because the episodes online were often taken down and reposted somewhere else, and for what was on TV I had to wait the next day or week for the next episodes. I did a lot of research online to know more about these franchises, and kept finding fan websites and forums so I always wanted to know more and interact with these older people who knew more than me and could afford importing books and DVDs from Japan or the US in the 2000s and early 2010s. I even found fan translations for some light novels and trying to read incomplete fan translated Haruhi Suzumiya novels in English helped me practice English outside of school before the second season started. I had no clue how people could find interviews in Japanese and translate them before posting them on livejournal.

Now that everything is way more accessible, technology is better and more affordable and I have a disposable income I don't give a fuck anymore. I went from obsessively looking for info on FMA online in middle and high school to know what's said about the manga and the first anime in interviews because I sometimes missed episodes on tv and had to buy the manga little by little very slowly to simply importing all the Japanese volumes of JJK a few months ago and reading them with a dictionary or google translate for words I haven't learned by then. I used to be obsessed with Pokemon as a kid because I grew up with gen 1, was upset that classmates pretended they were too grown for gen 3 games, and now I still like most of the games and retweeting cute pokemon fanart on my TL but don't really think about it anymore because I can buy games whenever I want, you can very easily find guides online and trade online without an accessory like a cable (which I lost when I was a kid so I couldn't fight my sisters on the GBC games anymore) and the games in Europe are finally released at the same time as in Japan so I don't even have to worry about that either. Older games in general can easily be downloaded on new consoles for cheap or you can pirate them. It kind of ruins the hype for older classics I thought were inaccessible when I first heard about them though. Don't even get me started on how legally getting into vkei and jrock was nearly impossible back then.

>who's to say your interest would stay too?
I don't really know, but with how curious but lazy I am I'd say it could go both ways. You're right that childhood wonder is a real thing that influenced me back then. But it can't just be that because on the other hand I was very into some American tv shows when growing up and I could simply watch them on tv with my family late enough to not miss episodes and there were regular reruns so I didn't feel the need to look up when new seasons would be released so I could illegally download them and not miss episodes. And English is taught everywhere as soon as you start middle school or sometimes even earlier so it made things even easier. Being an ameriboo was basically way easier than being a weaboo, it required less efforts. This also applies to other countries' pop cultures, back then I could effortlessly find Tokio Hotel or Rammstein albums in stores but god forbid I tried to buy L'arc en ciel albums. Even just looking for the songs on youtube was a pain in the ass because they were almost always removed or posters made the songs go faster so they wouldn't be taken down. That shit made me so stubborn back then.

I've checked, and while it looks normal during recording, the recording comes out completely blank save for the usual android navigation buttons at the bottom. The only method without owning a second phone would be to retype it word by word, but even if I had the time and energy to do that it would cost me a good $80 to unlock all the chapters. That's essentially the reason they're shutting down the app, their reviews on the app store are full of people furious with them for the absurd pricing schemes. I was patiently collecting freebie coins and unlocks, sometimes it'd take a few days to save for one short chapter but it was alright because I assumed I had some years to keep on trucking. The novel I wanted to read is about 900 chapters long and 200 chapters were translated. Another novel I was reading there is more popular and people already passed around translations of the full novel so at least that's fine.

I wouldn't say I hold it too dear, it was good company during hospital trips but I've read better webnovels in its genre since. The title is The Heavenly Idol, or Holy Idol on some sites. If you google it the only results you'll get are a live action which threw out the plot and replaced it with a het romance. There's a webtoon with ugly art that takes liberties with the plot but generally sticks to the original cast, its only translation was Korean > Indonesian > English. I really prefer novels but companies think comics are the only thing that'll sell.

Screencapped a couple twitter users summing it up. I never used Wattpad so I didn't know they posted translations on there, but it seems they kicked them from there to introduce the official app, and now they're trashing the app and all its translations so there's nothing left. What they don't mention is the official app also removed all the illustrations from novels including the covers, and replaced those with stock photo edits that made them look like cheap catalog fodder. Sometime last year I think they replaced a few of the covers with the original art, like they'd given up trying to hide that the Korean novels on there were nerdy or cute.

Same. I wonder too if it's because it doesn't affect my mood and well-being that I cannot relate or understand why people bring it in. I just thought about it again recently because I saw another post where a users from my fandom gave my favorite 2D man periods. It doesn't piss me off, I just find it genuinely strange.
Maybe related, but I feel neutral towards periods when I have it but I don't like to see it with others. Maybe it's a bit like with wounds. Lots of people (myself and my father included) don't have an issue seeing their own blood if they hurt themselves but cringe when they see others bleeding.

Now that I think about it you might be right. It's pandering to women that feel bad during their periods so it would be like 2D characters asking me how I feel when I have a cold kek. Can imagine that some would like this, especially if you don't have anybody in real life who helps you if you have fever or something.

I have PMDD and extremely painful black out tier periods. I don't want to be reminded of them at all when doing escapist shit. I generally like anime/manga because I never have to be reminded of it. My symptoms are worse when blood leaves, so I have nightmares where I find blood and I start panicking that the nausea, chills, pain, etc are about to begin. It's just all kinds of gross to me.

I've read some of the dialogue the period tracker in LADS has, and I think if I heard those lines I'd find them super patronizing. I specifically get this weird overwhelming desperation sensation where I need people to shut up and not do anything in my field of vision/hearing when the cramps are bad. Some dude leans in going "ohh babe how are youu feeelling?" and I am going to scream. Making strange noises is way more helpful for the pain than the game's suggestions of "food you want to eat" (though full disclosure, the most helpful noises are more like muttered "abwubwubwub" not screaming).

what are your honest thoughts on “force fem”? like I'm not a moralfag and I really didn't think much about it, but troons with their feminziation fetishes have left me with a negative impression, a few mutuals are into it and there are times when it annoys me and I have to force myself not to complain about how misogynistic I find the whole thing

 No.8359

I don't mind traps or guys who lean feminine, but "force-fem" is absolute shit to me. I similarly find it kind of sexist, but I am not going to start a fight over it.

 No.8360

>>8357
I used to like forced feminization to a degree when I was younger and crossdressing was a big trend in the late 00's BL but after troons and men appropriated it I can't look at it the same way anymore and now it just makes me uncomfortable to know that some greasy moid is getting off to it. Especially because they take it way too far, instead of a guy being dressed up as a woman in at least a semi-tasteful way it's now just extreme fetish gear that looks either goofy or painful. Back in the day it was more about enhancing the beauty of the bishounen rather than directly tied into some humiliation kink.

isn't that tranny logic, he still dick and balls and so he's still male in the end

 No.8362

>>8357
I like it in theory more than practice, the majority of the time it's executed terribly/OOC (in context of fanworks, I'm not really into original otokonoko stuff). I agree it's misogynistic, though admittedly I don't care too much unless I see a post about it by a male tranny, which automatically disgusts me.

 No.8363

What in the world are you talking about? Enhancing traditionally feminine features with styling or crossdressing doesn't mean making someone into a woman.

 No.8364

>>8357
The "forced" part of it makes it lose all appeal to me instantly because that's when it turns into "ohh I'm a man forced to be like a woman, femininity is so shameful oh nooo". Even if I ignored the misogyny there, it's just incredibly unsexy. I like the occasional crossdresser/otokonoko in BL but I like it when they're confident in their presentation or, if they do struggle with it, it's treated as a normal character trait instead of a fetish thing.

 No.8365

>>8364
I agree entirely. I remember stumbling upon a VN on vndb that has an english title like "Turning the chad who cucked me into my sissy bitch" and judging from the description and screencaps the whole thing felt very male to me. It's the notion of femininity being humiliating and degrading.

 No.8367

>>8357
I'm of the opinion that everything in that pic can be hot or not depending on the writing except for lactation in BL, always reads too goofy for me
For forced fem, I like it in the context of being uncomfortable at going against a societal norm, and not because being feminine is "lesser"
Pretty much only written well by women, but as other nonas have said it's been swarmed with men into sissification shit

 No.8369

I usually can't stand it but I admit I recently read a fic where one of my uglycute beefy men was begged to wear a revealing sexy outfit for women for the PoV character and he eventually did it because he's nice but was shy about it and trying to hide his dong and giant man boobs.
But I am not even sure if this is what what you mean since it wasn't really forced, he didn't "behave" like a woman and it was just a fetishizing way of appreciating his basically naked body. I have no trannies in my fandoms because they rarely seem to like muscular or masculine dudes. I guess they cannot relate to men that look and act like men despite claiming to be one lol
I also noticed that trannies mostly seem to stick to children and teenager characters. I rarely ever saw any of them care about adults.

>I also noticed that trannies mostly seem to stick to children and teenager characters. I rarely ever saw any of them care about adults.
Yeah pretty much. It's because they project on children due to autopedo/fetish fixation on being lesser than (a child, a woman, an object whatever)
>was shy about it and trying to hide his dong and giant man boobs.
>fetishizing way of appreciating his basically naked body
I love CD-themed fanarts precisely because of this, the embarrassment + manly features being enhanced is A+ BL

>Yeah pretty much. It's because they project on children due to autopedo/fetish fixation on being lesser than (a child, a woman, an object whatever)
Yeah I recently noticed that and it stroke me as odd. I noticed that the most tranny infested discussions are about very young cartoon characters. Trannies are obsessed with projecting themselves onto fictional children. I am not even saying this as a moralfag, I don't really care because otaku sexualize lolis too so it's kinda fucked up but nothing new, but it annoyed me because it made my fandom members feel like imbeciles to me. Can't help but thinking "At least project onto someone half of your age or I'll assume you are clinically retarded".

What you say explains so many things about trannies that I noticed. The obsession with little cute stuff too, as well as the self-inserting into young characters, the obsession with fluff and safe shit even in fiction, the uwufying of "scary" characters and so on. It's like a therapy session for the mentally ill.

But 99,5% of the male artists absolutely cannot make a decent h-doujinshi. Funny that you mention it because I wanted to play it and even I forgot about it. Zestiria and Abyss and other Tales of games were so huge it seemed like people were talking about them for half a decade and more.

It's so damn sad when creators or execs are blind to the fujo hype or unwilling to see it and pander to another fandom instead and then you always see the series fade into irrelevancy. Even happens to manga and I experienced it. Some mangaka think "fuck the fujos" or write out the ships or characters they like and double down on the het coomer shit and make the surprised pikachu face when the sales numbers hit rock bottom.

Always cathartic witnessing this, especially if the fujo fandom persists and keeps making fan content for the m/m ships of the same series that nobody else buys or talks about anymore.

Nonas I seethe about this so hard you wouldn't believe it. Bamco transferred a new producer from fucking God Eater (which is why Arise just looks like a God Eater reskin) and wanted to get rid of the fandom they had cultivated for 25 years, 90% of the attendees at the annual Tales festival were women, the entire playerbase was female and the series was EVERYWHERE, a cornerstone in the jrpg genre. Tons of merch, doujins, events, the hype was huge. And then with Arise they trashed it all because they wanted a generic dudebro game instead. Of course it sunk into obscurity. Nobody talked about Arise and nobody still does because it's a boring game that got rid of everything that made Tales so popular. I didn't even mind the het couples in Tales games before but in Arise it was so embarrassingly shoehorned and stuffed into your face that the message was loud and clear.

 No.8396

This is what they always do lmao
It further tells you that they were never invested. Men simply don't care much about fandoms the way women do. They go to danbooru because it's easy and takes no time to click through the few pages it has and call it a day whereas women check twitter twice or more a day, check bluesky too as well as pixiv and do that for years until they collected 20k fanarts of their favorite pairing while also drawing and writing them.
>>8394
The worst is that they're always drawing the wrong conclusions. Usually that's "it wasn't het enough!" or worse, "we need some more ecchi" when men actually have a gorillion series that directly pander to them including borderline porn games and anime. They have no need for that and probably won't touch Tales of games anyway because they think they're gay and the women aren't loli enough to be attractive to the typical otaku.

But feels good to finally have a creative passion again but it helps that the characters are hot and so much fun to draw. It probably helps that I mostly draw super detailed mecha otherwise so this feels like kindergarden now and it's cool seeing how quickly I progress even when I draw uncommon poses. I guess being a robo fucker pays off sometimes. Drawing that shit correctly gets you a million EXP.

I wanted to post random WIPs and sketches on bluesky at first but rather only do it once in a while otherwise I would flood the fandom there alone since it isn't as active as twitter.

My curse is that I can only draw when I am obsessed with something and obsessions are rare. The last time I loved a series and its characters enough to draw was 2019.

Personally I think that OP has some top tier male designs if you like the uncommon types. The sheer numbers also guarantee that get one for every weird niche and every age you are into and it has, IMO, some good worldbuilding and development. Side characters usually don't just disappear after their arc but return years later. Many come and go multiple times and change in the meantime.

It's like a gigantic sandbox to play in and the fact that Oda doesn't ship rather helps. The ships fujos like are always unconfirmed anyway and if something becomes canon it's usually het. As long as there are good dynamics fujos will ship, and OP is a sausage fest with a billion males.

The tl;dr is "fun and long-running sandbox with a large but shallow cast" which is fujo catnip. It is a pretty old (10+ years) fandom and therefore there are prevalent fanons that might clash with your interpretation of canon. Also there is a higher ratio than usual of male fans floating around with actual autism that could make the experience more irritating than you'd like.

I wonder if it's also about how over time someone's fanworks will stray further and further from canon and end up in elaborately detailed merman AU or any number of original AU designs and slowly stop resembling the original character. Or maybe you just start wanting to put your fave in more and more weird elaborate outfits.

Its very much a childrens show so expect stuff that doesn’t quite add up especially in later seasons where characters get changed a lot due to writers running out of ideas. There are fun interactions between them but all get shipbaited with girls later on and jay specifically has a girlfriend. If you don’t mind that though its fine. Do note I watched it when I was a kid myself so the retcons and character changes might be even more jarring through adult eyes.

The one good thing about everybody but me and five others being a phone fag is that it's way harder to notice the image quality drop if you upload on twitter or tumblr or basically everywhere.
When I look at my art on my PC it makes me insane. Others might not notice even if they're on the PC but I see those very small changes regarding quality, especially if the colors of the pic are intense.

I fucking hate nuinternet for making everything look so shit but at least it looks perfect when I look at it with my phone.

I'm trying to move off twitter and turns out bsky turns GIFs into the ugliest JPEGs I've ever seen. Goodbye, animated pixel art. I haven't seen what their app looks like, but I'm guessing the humongous blown up view of the shitty JPEGs looks better on a phone screen.

YEAH
Fuck it, man. It's everywhere. Ironically, 4chan and other image shitpost boards are the only ones that leave the original quality as far as I can tell. bsky is better than twitter for jpgs but it WILL also turn your pngs to jpgs if they're bigger than 800px or something and it will always lower the quality of your jpg, albeit significantly less than twitter and tumblr.

It's so annoying how no place bothers about quality anymore. Instagram is technically an image-centered place but it's way worse than twitter and bsky together regarding quality fuck up (and not even talking about the forced square dimensions and everything else).

I loved Ninjago growing up and was always super into the shipping scene, but it also hasn't aged well and has a lot of bullshit writing. Its the epitome of retarded, but fun. After season 11 its also technically a different show, as well, and I'm not saying the first 10 seasons are high quality but there is a noticeable shift in the writing. If you like western cartoons and all their silliness and weirdness, I would recommend it. Cole is also kind of officially gay now, so thats fun.

I thought Ninjago was the name of that ninja anime series for kids that gets so much fanart right now lmao
It's some Lego series? I have never heard of it. I didn't even know Lego series existed. What a weird way to learn about it.

It is a Lego series yeah. Lego has a lot of animated stuff lol, it's more than just silly toys for kids and autists.

Instagram is an abomination. I deleted my account long ago when I noticed that not only were my photos way worse there than anywhere else regardless of the phone I used to take them, but they had server(?) issues at some point and deleted some of the photos so when I checked my profile I had some vague error message instead of some of the pictures no matter what I tried. I'm glad none of the artists decided to fully and only move to instagram because the few ones I followed posted some of the most disgusting pixelated garbage in there despite the same art looking good on their other social media.

Yeah IG is the worst. I can't even cope with twitter. I checked again and with the phone you really only see it when you double click to make the image huge AND zoom in afterwards but still. I see it clearly with the PC and it annoys me. You work on an artwork for like 15h to get the perfect motif, the perfect colors and everything only so that every website you can upload it to will reduce the quality and add tiny artifacts because it cannot handle colors. All of my reeeeeeeeeeeee

Were you thinking of Nintarou? JP fujos have always loved that.

>>8473
It does but the only one I have ever gotten into the fandom scene for was the Lego Movie. Admittedly I think I'm just too old for Ninjago, I tried giving it a shot after seeing a ton of fan art but the series doesn't appeal to me at all. I love that a fandom like it exists, it remi da me a lot of TMNT fujos who care much more about the toyline than the children the creatora are actually targeting.

 No.8477

I am usually rather indifferent about the shipping order but I cannot relate with my current fandom where 90% of the fans headcanon it as A/B when A is so obviously dominant and masculine and it's B who is canonically the romantic guy that cuddles and blushes if you take his hand.
Just.. HOW. Why.
I believe it's just because the majority prefers A and most fujos want their fav to bottom but it's one of the rare pairings where I feel like it's ooc. I can enjoy A/B here too, but only as exception and A being the power bottom. It's weird as shit and half of the fandom is of course giving him a "pussy" which doesn't make it easier to accept.

Am I obsessed with gap moe or do I just have a fetish for ugly 2D men? Hard to tell.
Sometimes ugliness can be cute, like with pugs and exotic shorthair. It's a bit like that maybe, just with sexuality involved.

 No.8481

Most "ugly" characters are just people too afraid to admit to liking things like pointy noses, beards, or more cartoony proportions, lol. Unless someone is drawing an ugly bastard there is no 2D guy that can't be cute it just turns into gap moe.

Cartoonier faces and noses are cool. IMO the problem is that the beauty standards in anime are basically k-pop idols so dudes that anime fans call ugly would actually be considered sexy in real life. Probably, at least. Not sure about Tsukishima but he's still cute.

It's unfortunate when you grow attached to a top tier guy but there's no canon-compliant way to gay ship him.

 No.8491

>>8490
Same.
Well maybe he isn't top tier since he's an incompetent anti-social loner that tries and fails to be a good leader but he's perfect for me. But no way to ship, even though he's only surrounded by dudes. I cannot ship without at least a bit of appealing canon dynamic and he's basically the lonely angry ruler type. Cursed.
