I believe we need containment thread for NOTP posting.

feel free to bash them or venting about it.
Dont visit this thread if you cant stand seeing your favorite ship get dunked.

i'll start :

>any angel ship in GBF ( Lucifaa, Belifaa, etc)

I hate them with passion bcus i FUCKING HATE angel story. not just theyre poorly written but the fanbase is fucking retarded. i just hate any angel related shit on gbf at this point

>FlamExeFlame (arknights)

i hate facecap and crackship thanks. literally only hot guys and get shipped, im fucking glad tho executor now have his now-homobait boyfriend (Enforcer).

>any seme flamebringer (arknights)

because i see him as bottom

>Maitake (tokyo revenger)

I ship Takemikey and i dont like seeing mikey being top.

>UenoyaMafuyu (Given)

i fucking hate mafuyu so much. uenoyama is too good for him

>Victuuri (Yuri On Ice)

their fans is so annoying & obnoxious as fuck.

 No.434

>Kaeluc
it's shame they aren't actual sibling & also their dynamic is so boring.

>AkiAngel

i honestly like Aki character as how it is & can't see him being shipped with anyone else , most of the time akiangel shipper like to uwufied his character, or it becomes OOC, as akifag i'm annoyed. Seems like its forced too.

>any zhongli x childe ship

i hate how most of the shipper make the character as fucking OOC to the point the character become unrecognized. i block any artist who draw zhongli & childe. their shipper is also annoying too.

>foxakuma / kuzuhakanae / any nijiboys ship

man, i like this vtuber as normal streamer & i just hate to see any ship art of them.

I don't like Edgeworth/Gumshoe at all, not even just because I like Edgeworth/Phoenix more but because Gumshoe deserves better than dating his boss who won't stop shit talking him. I played AAI recently and gave up at the beginning of the last case because it's a boring game, I hated how Edgeworth wouldn't stop shit talking Gumshoe even more than in the main games, it was annoying instead of funny.

In Persona 4, I dislike Yu/Adachi and Yu/Kanji a lot. Yu/Yosuke and Dojima/Adachi are so much better.

I hate all OT3 in general. I won't elaborate.

i hate any self insert shit & it just repackaged yumeshit but gay ver.

this is why i hate any male!byleth ship (particularly Dimitri x M!Byleth) in my wholeass chest.
same with any Gran x male chara. aether x male chara & gudao x male chara.
it doesnt help most people who flock in this type of ship is those fakeboi ayden & generally fucking insufferable.

also any vtuber ship, its fucking cringe & no different like shipping 3d moid.

I hate m!Byleth/any character at all in FE3H. I hate people saying he's more canon than f!Byleth when they're both just mindless self-inserts so you can just pick and choose the one you prefer. It's annoying when people say Dimitri and m!Byleth are def gay for each other "in canon" when Dimitri can marry f!Byleth only, and there's Dedue RIGHT THERE. Dimitri/Dedue>>>>>>>>>>dogshit>>>>>>m!Byleth, there, I said it.

byleth is garbage regardless of the gender.
Dimidue is patrician taste.
any Dimitri ship is honestly better as long its not with byl*th.

I feel the same but also that's the reason why I almost never share my OTP. Each character has other, more popular ships so it makes me feel awful when I see their fanart and lewds. But it's worse when I try to talk about it and everyone else jumps and comments how the other, more mainstream ships are so much better and hot than my OTP. I hate having a relatively niche ship but I love it so much and it makes me feel so lonely.

At least with f!Byleth I can understand why people would be into f!Byleth/Dimitri since you can romance him that way. So the average non-mentally ill girl who like Dimitri can project into f!Byleth while playing, marry Dimitri in-game and may think it's cute. Most m!Byleth/any male character shippers are mentally ill fakebois on the other hand.

I don't know what series you guys are talking about right now but it sounds like you're bothered over literal genderswaps of the exact same self-insert character. That's some next level autism. Shouldn't you rather be glad he'd love your self-insert regardless of gender? I guess I don't understand self-insertfags thought process.

I hate pretty much almost every Genshin ship to several degrees, but if there's one ship that is just pure fucking nonsense to me is fucking Kaebedo.
It only originated because Kaeya talks about Albedo in his lines, but other than that there's quite literally nothing else linking them. Literally nothing. They barely even talk to each other. And worst of it, it's like a "gotcha" sort of ship for some antis? Shipping Kaeya with ANYONE but Diluc is a "win" even if it makes no sense. And the funniest thing is, that they somehow don't even apply the "uhh albedo is minor-coded" logic into it or anything. I hate how it's Albedo's most popular ship in western spaces. Nips like Albedo/Aether a lot but I'm honestly tired of Aether ships too. Originally I didn't mind teyvat whore bicycle aether, but I've grown fucking sick of seeing the same kawaii uguu bottom aethers over and over. I can like some MC/Character ships but not in Genshin. Aether is way, waaaay too bland to work for shipping.
I can only get into shipping if I'm invested in the two characters involved equally, and it's hard to get invested into an MC that you're supposed to project on.
Albedocest is better anyway
On a different note, I fucking hate Tatsujun. But it's less about the ship itself and more so how it entirely changed the cognition of P2 for everyone into persona or not even into it. Years and years of misinfo and wishful thinking to completely twist the game as some sort of gay dating simulator when the "gay option" is just one throwaway line with no impact on the game whatsoever. The worst of it all is that people only see the two characters as orbiters of one another, unable to think of anything else but wanting to fuck eachother when that's not how it is at all. It's also responsible for bringing nothing but genderspecials who project onto the two characters and if you think outside their trans black headcanons you're a monster. And to me, the pair is just simply dreadfully boring. Just because a character is canon gay doesn't make it good. You're not obligated to like gay characters or "half-canon" pairs if they're fucking bland.
I would probably go on an specific speegout about it but I already wrote too much of a text wall.

reimu and Vox from Nijisanji. People only started shipping them ONLY to spite people who didn't like the ship. They don't make sense as a couple either, she's a retarded skinny ghost who's latching onto the most popular VTuber in the EN branch because she gets the lowest viewership. i hate r*imu so fucking much and her 3 fans who keep pushing the retarded ship just because they think they're making people angry. She's a loud obnoxious leech who can't get 1k viewers on ANY of her streams so she thinks trying to suck my husbando's dick is supposed to get her the same audience. It doesn't work like that, bitch. They look weird as a "couple" and don't actually have any chemistry so people drawing them together pisses me off because people only draw this hetfaggotry because they have no other personality and thinking that'll get her more views. Too bad, people don't actually like to watch you, they just want to cum on your back like the pointless whore you are.(a-logging)

Also I love Song Lan way too much to forgive this piece of shit for what he did.

>Madeleine cookie/Espresso cookie

 No.583

When I hate a pairing it's usually because of its fanbase acting like cunts. I'll think a pairing is retarded or shit or whatever but it isn't enough for me to feel strongly about it if the fans are minding their own business and then I just end up forgetting it exists. Hating pairings also doesn't happen often to me these days because I avoid English social media unless I have a random masochistic urge.

The Yuri on Ice bullshit back when it aired ruined any chance of me liking the show let alone the main pairing. Shit leaked everywhere. Twitter shit even bled onto /a/ at the time. Got to the point where I'm suspicious of Westerners who like it.

Another one I remember involves Lamento when it got translated. I didn't have a problem with Asato or his route but his fans were very aggressive with the whole "uwu such a cute wholesome bean the other routes are abusive to Konoe how dare you ship him with anyone but Asato!1" which really soured him for me.

 No.584

I love Victor/Yuuri but I avoided the fans everywhere except on /a/, and the /a/ threads were really fun most of the time. I just vented once on twitter by saying it was annoying when fakebois and western fans as a whole were spoiling new episodes for everyone just to prove or disprove that the series is "queerbait" and most of my mutuals unfollowed or blocked me, so that's also why I managed to avoid the annoying fans. I followed the series since the start with a real life friend which made it even better, but honestly I can get why vocal fans can ruin a character, a pairing or even an entire series, some series were ruined for me as well with that same attitude.

 No.587

>just to prove or disprove that the series is "queerbait"
Holy fuck I hate when this happens every time a new show comes out where two characters of the same sex look at each other for more than 5 seconds.  No.596

>>593
Fujobait and queerbait have slightly different meanings though. People legit thought Yuri on Ive was queerbaiting, as in, baiting American SJW queerios looking for gay representation and were mad about it. But fujobait means a show or manga is trying to bait fujoshi (who are an actual reliable market this time) just looking for gay fanservice or a canon romantic relationship between two male characters so it's not the same targets and the same approach. Both concepts are dumb at the end of the day.

Lol no worries Anon, Cookie Run design its characters to the point where they look more like chibi humans rather than Cookies. If there's one thing I hate about VA it's RisoPro/ProRiso. There's literally not a single on-screen interaction, no hints, nothing at all, and yet, it's so absurdly popular (especially with the western fanfom) that it's making me sick! Why go for a crack pair if ProPesci is right there? They have a great dynamic and literally died for each other and the only reason why it's not getting the love it deserves is because Pesci doesn't look like a typical bishounen, so they just erase my poor boy from existence and pretend that RisoPro is the true canon when it's NOT >:(

 No.795

Getting back into One Piece after abandoning itaround the timeskip and I still don't understand the appeal of Sanji/Zoro. I have yet to see a fanfic of them that feels in-character. I get rival ships, but I haven't seen anyone realistically reconcile that rivalry into a relationship.

It's not that complicated, just a result of majority of the male cast being so buttugly that you have no choice but to ship the only decent looking male characters

I think this was one of the reasons I didn't get into shipping at first, people just seemed to put together two arbitrary male characters that looked good with no consideration for dynamics. Just as >>1432 said, like 00's dudebros thought all yaoi was. I find it so hard to be invested in a ship that has nothing else running for them than "they look good as individual characters" except for PWP purposes, I'm much more attracted to how the characters' personalities work together and how they interact. Most of my NOTPs are like that, just boring ass ship with two attractive guys and nothing tying them together. It's some "I just want to look at sexy guys making out for me" coomershit. And don't get me wrong, I want my male characters to be good looking but it's definitely not enough to catch my interest alone.

I understand your frustration, in the original Beyblade Kai/Rei was the most popular ship, despite barely ever interacting with each other or having any memorable moments, the shipping was solely due to them those them hottest members of the main cast, however with a series like One Piece It makes more sense, the entirety of the male cast are ugly dudes or non-humanoid monsters with weird proportions

 No.1439

>>1438
Not the person you're replying to but honestly when I was younger I was the kind of fujo to just pick the two hottest characters in any show and ship them. Now you could make one of the guys in a pairing a literal pile of slime and assuming he had a good personality and chemistry with the other guy I'd ship it.

Probably just a me thing though, used to be into bishies now I actively perfer characters with unusual visual quirks so my tolerance for weird and ugly is high.

For me I want stuff as close to canon as possible so I want the characters to feel in-character. I find exploring relationships and character interactions way more interesting than just PWP. Often times on sites like AO3 block that tag since it doesn't lead to the character-focus I enjoy in fanworks.

I don't see the point in reading a doujin or fanfic if Sanji and Zoro are way out of character to facilitate hot yaoi action, at that point I might as well just be reading an original work.

Then I discovered the doujins of Makoto Aogiri. Childe/Zhongli
I admit this is mostly because I set my expectations too high. before getting into genshin, I was really into fe3h and one of my favorite pairings was Sylvix. those two had a lot of dialogue that was pretty romantically implied, like promising to die together on the battlefield. I was starting to ride off my fixation for fe3h by the time genshin dropped, and I saw a lot of really good Tartali fanart. I guess I was expecting it to be like genshin sylvix,so I played the game kinda excited to witness their canon interactions, only to be disappointed that their canon relationship is business/political at best. their dialogue together was boring as hell to me. obviously I wasnnt expecting to see them drill each other's asshole in game, but I really wanted to see why these two were such a popular pairing. In the end its just two grown men kissing. no hate to anyone who is into that, but I prefer some type of interactions with my ships.

 No.2186

>>2180
I still can't quite understand why Childe/Zhongli is so popular because that aspect of Liyue felt like an otome game to me (despite my male MC, lol). It even had that web event where you were locked-in as Lumine doing stuff around the city with them! I can't speak for the eastern part of the fandom, but on the western side it seemed like it got so popular because our too-large population of self-loathing pickme """fujos""" were dying for something to ship that wasn't Kaeya/Diluc (PROBLEMATIC!!!) and the other boys had yet to develop stronger on-screen bonds (which seem to be extremely important for launching a ship).

It's funny to look at the canon interactions of all characters in Genshin up until now (both on-screen and through voice over unlocks) versus what creators had to work with when the game launched. Childe/Zhongli has about as much content now as they did when the Liyue arc ended. I definitely think Miyoho isn't going to deviate from whatever story plans they had for Childe and Zhongli to tease them. They are both looking to be important long-term.

every ship in genshin is a notp for me, they're all so shitty. they only exist because 1. the game is popular and 2. they're borderline blank slate anime characters with so little going on they allow people to project whatever personalities onto them that they want; it's a free for all

 No.3498

NTA but what the hell is up with someone just popping up every single time Genshin in mentioned in any possible context to just bitch about how much you hate every ship in it? It happens in literally every fandom-related thread that's discussing topics outside of a strict fandom context, no matter how Genshin is mentioned someone starts trauma dumping about how much they hate the game and ships. Even when someone tried to talk about it anonymously without mentioning the series it devolved into someone in the replies sperging about their autistic hatred for it having nothing to contribute but "they have no personality!!!!!". It's stupid and brings no value to any conversation. This reply >>3496 here doesn't even mention NOTPs in the same fashion explaining why they hate certain ships like this post >>3493 does, it's just weird venting about the Genshin shaped chip on their shoulder.

 No.3505

too bad. if a lot of people feel that way, it's going to keep happening and it can't be helped. the post was relevant and saged, but it made you upset so you're making a big deal about what would've been a one off post. you're the only one guilty of weird autistic venting. let's drop it, yeah?

 No.3508

Never played Genshin never will, but I am curious is that post actually relevant and talking about NOTPs? When I picture the phrase I think about a visceral reaction and disgust either due to the ship getting in the way of your OTP or because it's squick. Can you have NOTPs from series you don't like in the first place?

 No.3512

>>3508
I don't even hate the game, idk why that thought never occurred to that anon. the ships are based on such insignificant interactions most of them qualify as crackships but not the kind born out of potentially cool interactions because the characters are also one dimensional. there's nothing there. that's why they get shat on.

 No.4859

No concrete NOTP but I hate every pairing that solely exists for a kink that isn't even relevant in the show. Like I have seen so many characters that barely talk with each other or have no chemistry getting shipped because of the size kink and the shippers don't even watch the series or don't care what happens. They just see "big" and "smol" and pair them up and fans are eating those crack ships up for the same reason.

 No.4860

>>4859
Do you hate it when it's just a physical quirk that causes them to get shipped, or does that extend to character types as well. For example bookworm x jock or bad boy x by-the-rules stickler?

I think its frustrating when a clearly superior ship exists and people gravitate to something I deem as "shallow" but I do think if a writer has enough patience and creativity they can realistically make any ship work and stay in character.

 No.4861

>>4860
Mainly physical since I see this more often. When it's based on personality traits it's usually at least somewhat based on canon. The danger here is to simplify the characters and reduce them to the trait. Personally I like the grumpy, old(er) dude/younger, funny, optimistic one for example. Thankfully that trope is very popular but lots of times I still catch myself not being able to enjoy fanfics since characters are solely defined by the main trait the fans like which is usually oddly exaggerated.
But I would say that this is a different kind of problem. It's just the typical OOC issue whereas the former thing I mentioned spreads like fire and involves fans that don't even deem it necessary to read or watch the series since all they care about are the sizes.

 No.4862

>>4859
I absolutely hate how tropeships ruined crackshipping. Like yeah by all means it classifies as one, but the enjoyment i get from crackships is seeing two seemingly unrelated characters interact in a scenario that couldve worked had the story given them the opportunity; it shows a "what if?" if two narratively similar characters met in the middle. I love the undistilled autism required to cobble up such concepts and tropeships that are just shipped just because the character "looks good" (this discussion probably also fits the shipping looks vs shipping personalities thread) almost always has no regard to a character's chemistry or lore. its just superficial enjoyment and not the way i like ships.

 No.4863

fun to see this thread get bumped. i’ve actually got some bitchiness to get off my chest so here goes.

>soukoku (bsd)

never was able to get into this one while watching the show/reading the manga, for whatever reason, so the total ubiquity of it in art and fic was kind of a slap in the face. and i tried to get into it, really, but nearly every fucking fic flanderizes them so hard and makes them both so obnoxious and the plot follows the same. exact. beats. every single time. then over the years the “it’s basically canon!!1!1!!!” brigade kicked in and it’s firmly in genuine notp territory for me now.

>matt/mello (death note)

admittedly i got into dn super late and wasn’t around for any early fandom stuff, but i have no idea how this pairing even happened. matt is a non character. he has like, two scenes. literally a made up guy. and mello doesn’t provide much to go off of either since everything post ep-26ish is so rushed in the anime. i have no idea why i’m so particularly petty about this but i am.

 No.4871

>>4862
Not exactly a crack ship but the only hint a game related pairing I was heavily into ever got was a text file that said that guy 1 was the mentor of guy 2 and considered him talented. This text was optional and IIRC not even in the game itself, just some background info for those interested and all the characters did on screen was saying one line each till guy 1 killed guy 2 lol

And yet some friends and I have built a whole universe around them. All confined within canon, we also read a shitton of lore and memorized every damn bit of the game and universe to come up with realistic scenarios and a friend wrote like 50 fics about them that were all connected.
In the end she wrote some fucking 150 pages long novel about how they have met. It was fantastic.

What a fun time. I say this because I agree. Sometimes lacking on-screen info means just that you have so much more leeway to do whatever you want and develop the characters and pairings. I think that THIS is the reason for why I am always into side characters and never the mains.

Well side characters also tend to be crazier and more creatively written since they don't need to be moral or the audience's surrogate like the MCs. But this is another reason. And yeah, trope shipping sucks ass.

 No.4872

>>4863
Matt/Mello came about before the manga ended, and people were kind of banking on Matt contributing more than he did. The design stood out, and people were really desperate for a new L since Near was offputting to most. In retrospect so much of Death Note's fandom activity was wishful bullshit and making far more than the series actually gave.

genuinely thanks for the context. coming into it over a decade late, it was so fucking weird to watch the anime and then find so much fandom content dedicated to a guy who i didn’t think about for more than 0.3 seconds after his first appearance. but i can see how it could spring up the way you described (and i think that’s absolutely something that still happens with ongoing series today). a bit off-topic, but it was also weird to me that mello/near wasn’t a bigger deal. i’d initially assumed that the whole orphanage pseudobrothers thing had killed it, but i picked up on the distaste for near pretty quickly. which is a shame because i actually kinda liked him more than mello for some reason, kek.

The answer is the design + first impression.
A lot of characters gain maaassive popularity uniquely for that, it doesn't even have to do with being "good" looking, it has to do with having some sort of iconic look or accessory that creates a brand.(think about the link green outfit, or the mikasa scarf)
Shanks for example, appeared VERY few times in one piece, yet he still ranks pretty high in popularity polls (even thou he is pretty important lore wise)
I can think of Bonney too, (before the current chapters obviously) who gained massive popularity despite only appearing few times and being mostly a comedic relief character.

It's a notp thread, do you expect people to only be allowed to hate certain ships? I hate the entire fandom because of how cocky the fujos get over that one "implied" roommate ships when they're all boring nothingburgers. The most "canon" yaoi with the most annoying fujos being something that boring is exactly why I hate the game, I think all the ships suck because they'll never write one relevant to the actual plot that moves like fucking molasses.

I was going to post a NOTP of my own but I don't think I have any that actively fill me with disgust or hatred, usually more in the "disinterest" or "doesn't" click category of not shipping.

 No.4965

My mindset was like >>4954 at first but after sharing some thoughts in another thread I realised that Mob x Reigen counts as a NOTP for me. It just feels wildly out of character no matter which of the two would initiate the relationship and characterisation is extremely important for me in a ship.

 No.5010

I don't really have NOTPs just many pairings I don't give a shit about or fail to see the chemistry of. Usually, that's the most popular pairing.
Tbh I cannot remember more than five series at best since the year 2000 or so where the main ship was ever interesting or hot, regardless of whether I was into the series or not (that rhymes!). I feel like the mass tends to ship the childish and/or dumber characters IMO or the fragile uke and the evil seme, annoying hyperactive characters or brats.
It's one of the main reasons for why I don't end up in fan communities for the series I love. Being the only one talking about the ship you are into while everybody screams and creams their pants over the two dudes you consider boring is worse than just drawing fanart and staying in your own lane with the 3-10 others that like the same shit as you.

 No.5011

>>4965
Agreed, most of the people Ive seen ship it only ship it because its "problematic!" and "taboo" with no consideration to the character's personalities or dynamic at all. Regardless of positions, I hate the perverted characterizations I see from both of them, from obsessed stalker Mob to sleazy sexpest Reigen… so ooc and unnerving, they may as well be ocs.

 No.5013

Does anyone have a ship that everyone thinks is your NOTP, but you don't actually feel that strongly? I mean like a ship where you're very vocal that the popular versions aren't right and you're sick of seeing it all the time, and that the characters are more like this and this in canon. At this point, because it's also a problematic ship and people would question my interests (which is stupid 'cuz the series already has rape and dismemberment), I just let acquaintances assume I hate all instances of it. The truth is I think the way people ship it at the moment is full of flanderizing and ignoring key character traits to make an OC out of one guy and preserve their favorite as he is. I've read fics from the 00s where the authors remembered to keep both of them in-character and the slow build up is way better, the way the more innocent one struggles and resists is taken seriously instead of a joke and that leads to really sexy descriptions. The current fanart and comics and stuff are always just making him tsundere and helpless instead of repulsed by murder and mutilation, and then when they skip that stage they just make him hollow and compliant so he no longer has his personality. It's frustrating because I'm more into him than the seme and the fact he fights back in canon and gets all pissy and growly is one of his best features, as well as drowning in despair and self hate when he thinks he's committed evils. It's frustrating to find every new fanart is some OOC rewrite who is OK with everything he stands against. I've definitely posted about this ship before but it's particularly awkward that I don't feel like I can say "no actually I think it's fine I just think they're fucking it up ALL the time." I'm not shipping it myself but I think there's more than enough in canon that plays around with it and I'm disappointed everyone's taking the easy option to make it work. I want to walk into their workspace and show them how to do their job and leave, lol.

 No.5017

>>5013
It sounds like you're talking about Optimus and Megatron including the dismembering part LMAO because that's also exactly what newer fans are doing and fics from the 00s were so much better. Like there are still good ones, but yeah I feel the same about such issues and transformers respectively the way fans often handle Optimus is a good example. People woobify one of them too much in modern times and it got so annoying that I ignored the shipping for years despite that they were ships I also casually enjoyed.
Anyway I agree I know that feeling. If something is popular enough fans will assume that you NOTP it if you argue against it even if it's just the way they are doing it that annoys you. I don't like OOC, woobifying and selfinserting and I see a lot of this happening, especially for older fandoms. Maybe fans lack new material so they start basing their stories off on other fanon that is based on earlier fanon and so on until the guys they ship have nothing in common with the originals anymore.

I always feel like I am party pooper, regardless of the fandom I am in. It's always me who dislikes ooc and the majority seems to be in love with it. I hate it since it would make me enjoy so much art and writing more if I could, but I can't. No matter how much I love a character (or especially because of that) I always dislike mischaracterizations of them.

 No.5159

>>4965
The fans of that only talk about how its antis who hate it. No, I don't believe you're a pedophile in real life for shipping. I just don't like it because I see it was ooc for Reigen. Him being that type of guy would make him a completely different character.

Sorry for the rant but I didn't wanna bring negative vibes to the BnHA thread.

My criticism isn't directed at the shippers of any couple. It's more that I'm peeved with the author for how he twisted the main pair to be together in the last chapter of My Hero Academia. I want to feel ecstatic about the manga's last chapter but I don't.

I feel like a douche for being upset but official art and merch of IzuOcha is starting and I feel kinda sick (even though they're both lovely and cute characters who deserve to have their happiness after years of suffering and I actually like the ship too).

I guess it's payback for years of Hori pandering hard to BkDks while ignoring IzuOchas. I'm not even part of the fandom or anything, I just lurk and I only got into BnHA in August, after I saw that no het ship was confirmed in the last chapter.

431 spoilers:
I didn't want my favorite ship, BkDk, to be so officially BTFOd with such finality. Like Hori literally didn't have to put that car conversation in. I mean, since I like KrBk too, their interaction was hilarious like Bakugo was the long suffering partner of Kirishima, who's the only one he really tolerates. But did Hori have to use him to say "He rejected you, Bakugo" wrt Izuku? Also, he could have used some other character like Iida to tell Izuku to find his special person. But that wouldn't be fair to the rare IidaIzu shippers. Those "special person" and car convo pages could have been spent on 1A and 1B banter easily.

Goddammit. I hate this feeling. I haven't had such insane fujo whiplash since MCU Endgame with every Steve ship.

Bkdk was easily my favorite ship and while I was not invested in a way that broke my heart I'm still sitting over here like "damn really lmao???" every time I'm reminded about #431. I never read/watched MHA so it's a bit hard for me to comment on this, but if I understand it right the het pairing was just hinted as a possibility but not really pandered before? Because if that's the case it would be a really shitty move if BkDk was in the focus for such a long time. At least leave it open then so that everybody can have their fun.
I hate this stuff because it's always like a punch in the guts especially if it happens in the last third of the series or something and it usually does.

It's honestly the only reason for why I am on the fence about condemning authors that listen to fans because I think that sometimes, rarely, giving the fans some nods isn't bad but actually making a series much more enjoyable. Of course only if it doesn't radically change the plot I am not talking about that. What I mean is shit like Satoro Noda being fully aware of the shipping craze for his manga characters and giving the fans some hints and easter eggs. He clearly had fun doing it, fans went even crazier and the result was that the merch sold like hotcakes and still does, years after the manga has ended.

The characters that were supposed to die still died. So it's not like he rewrote the story, but I will forever be thankful to him for how much of a fun ride it was. A bit extra fuel never hurt anybody. Again I didn't watch MHA so maybe I totally misjudge it and the het pairing was planned from the start. But if not then it can't hurt being more neutral. Do men and het shippers even buy acrylic stands and all that? I only see fujos and yumes buying that and yumes usually prefer the male character solo, not the girl too.

I'm rationalizing it as Deku's always been a fantastic teacher for his peers with his in-depth analysis and he's looked up to All Might and Aizawa because they're incredible educators too. That's a thing I actually like, it makes sense for a quirkless guy who fought a war to put down the sword and pick up the chalk and inspire future generations. That too is All Might's legacy (he became a teacher after his capacity to maintain his big form diminished). And the suit means he gets to be like Aizawa who wasn't with any agency but is still a Pro Hero. I just hate that I have to infer so many things like that and Hori could have used those pages to explain it better than a clumsy conversion implying Deku gave equal billing to everyone as special. He had a tier - Inko, All Might, "Kacchan" and to an extent, Ochako. Then came people like Iida, Shoto etc. Or reject Bakugo outright when the Wonder Duo was built up and pushed so hard. Which I can rationalize as Izuku's no longer viewing Ll Might or Bakugo as something to chase after, that he doesn't care about hero rankings anymore and he's become his own person with his own dreams.
>>6338
Oh nona. The ending had so many shades of "betrayal" of BkDk I can't squeeze it in a mobile browser.

He basically made Deku reject Bakugo's offer to join his agency but he worded it like a love rejection akin to something you'd see in a shoujo manga or KDrama. He made Bakugo a wingman for IzuOcha by telling Izuku yo go after his special person. Heavily implied Kirishima's a special person to Bakugo due to what he lets him get away with.

In 430, Bakugo coordinated an expensive mech suit for Izuku and All Might, Izuku's mentor says that it's a power he's earned (Izuku has lost his magic shonen powers and is a teacher/lecturer now).

This suit let's Izuku go on hero missions with the class and lets Ochako interact with Izuku again (after 8 years of not speaking to each other due yo Izuku not being a hero anymore and all of them being busy). So the suit Bakugo gets for Izuku lets IzuOcha get together while Izuku rejects joining Bakugo's agency to be a hero. Granted, Bakugo asks him to quit teaching and join him (which I found strange - Bakugo never moved on from his childhood dream while Izuku has carved a life for himself). Maybe it was a theme Hori was going for? That Bakugo must create a dream for himself too, independent of Izuku and being the best hero. But that's a rather heavy reality check for Bakugo (and us, the audience - BkDks and non-BkDks alike have asked how Izuku just walks away from hero-ing after he loses his powers. Even All Might had a mech suit in the final fight).

Sorry if my replies are all over the place. It's hard to make sense and make peace at the same time.

All this talk about MHA is reminding of what I'm currently seeing with the new JJK epilogues that just dropped a few hours ago. On one hand Yuji isn't confirmed to be dating or in love with the literal who who only showed up in one irrelevant chapter that the editor suggested and he's not confirmed to have grandkids like Yuta but on the other hand a lot of people assume that Yuji must be dating the literal who just because she said in an internal monologue that she loves him. Then there are a few Japanese fujoshi on bluesky looking either happy or relieved that Yuta becomes the heir of the Gojo clan after Gojo dies just because that means Gojo never had kids with anyone and never got married off screen so they can just assume that he really was into Geto the whole time. The issue is that the mangaka keeps revealing very important things in extras and interviews so I anticipate some new revelations that will ruin at least one popular gay pairing for its fans in the near future even if there's no way we'll ever get a sequel or more bonus chapters.

i don't envy bkdk girlies. this sounds like poorly written NTR. what hurts the most when mangakas betray their female audience like this is that it seems like they go out of their way to crush out dreams in the most casually cruel way possible. like shoehorning an epilogue that completely blindsides you at the very last chapter, with a development so poor and out of nowhere you're just left in silence and go "alright then" when you finish it. they always pull this shit at the very end too, which feels extra bad because you don't have time to prepare yourself mentally for it, and because you feel used.
i think back on all the support i've given to the series in terms of buying merch, the manga, streaming the anime legally, making content for it etc. as opposed to men who usually just pirate the thing and call it a day, and yet they get the last laugh when the finale is out.
this happened enough times for me to stop giving male mangakas the benefit of the doubt, they actually just hate the part of the audience who pays their bills

I also expect a backlash if that happens, but I'm sure Gege wants to move on from JJK and doesn't plan any sequel or spinoff so one part of his fanbase turning against him wouldn't affect him too much. I'm sure he's rich as hell now, so the only issues it could cause would be the next seasons of the anime being a bit less successful than planned and Shueisha just telling him to shut the fuck up for marketing reasons.

>they are one of the few shonen m/m pairings who might actually be canon

At this point it all depends on whatever Gojo told Geto before executing him. It's so confidential that there's a play adaptation of JJK0 right now in Japan and everytime the actors redo this scene Gojo's actor's microphone is muted on purpose and he always says a different line so people can't guess the line by reading his lips. It's so over the top it has to be important. Then there's video related that makes me even more curious: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zkWWRrs4qXs

>i imagine yumes would also riot if some girl gets confirmed as gojo's romantic interest.

I assume they've reached the same conclusion as fujoshi who ship Gojo with any of the guys and are glad he doesn't have kids that were suddenly revealed in the epilogue.

i agree, it would make or break them as a romantic possibility.
i think there are plenty of subtextual hints that point to them being in love with each other, and akutami isn't opposed to BL pairings either. he himself stated that a big part of his inspiration for JJK was a BL manga he loves dearly, so at the very least he's not your average homophobic male mangaka.
i wonder if he might eventually pull off a togashi with sensui/itsuki and confirm them in an interview or guidebook 10 years after JJK's ending. i brought up this specific example because akutami stated that geto is inspired by sensui btw lol
but all of this can easily be essentially useless if it turns out gojo told him "my best friend" before he died.

and thank you for sharing that video nona! i've never seen it despite being chronically online when it comes to stsg. it really makes you wonder…

You can say this about pretty much any big shonen pairing though. They wouldn't be as popular as they are if they weren't accessible to anybody with eyes and no bias against yaoi. Shonen men overwhelmingly have the lion's share of their powerful moments with other men. That's just facts!
>>6427
This is why I pirate manga and buy fanmerch. If it's getting tankobon deals fujo money does not matter. With shonen I'm usually reading for the art and context for the "x but the correct ship is canon" type fanfiction, lol. The story in a vacuum is never particularly special.

>i wonder if he might eventually pull off a togashi with sensui/itsuki and confirm them in an interview or guidebook 10 years after JJK's ending. i brought up this specific example because akutami stated that geto is inspired by sensui btw lol
I'm also expecting this for the same reason. When I watched YYH as a kid a very long time ago it was already obvious that Sensui and Itsuki were an item, I only learned Togashi confirmed it way later when I started watching Level E. I haven't read the YYH manga so maybe it's even more obvious there. This is also similar to HP and how JKR confirmed that Dumbledore was gay for Grindelwald which wasn't a surprise to me as I read the last book shortly before this interview but it shocked movie only fans.

>but all of this can easily be essentially useless if it turns out gojo told him "my best friend" before he died.

If it weren't for Geto blushing and giggling when he heard that line I would have expected something like this. On top of that there's the novel stating Gojo never said it before because that line was way too embarrassing for any of them to say it as teenagers so it's not "you're still/always my best friend" or anything similar. And definitely not Gojo apologizing for anything either.

>>6430
>You can say this about pretty much any big shonen pairing though.
No I agree with her, these two's relationship is way too over the top and way too plot relevant to simply be shallow fanservice for fujoshi or
an ott friendship because the setting itself is ott. I can't think of anything similar on top of my head. Maybe narusasu is close enough but I have never finished the manga.

the apologizing theory sends me each time because it makes literally no sense when you piece all of the evidence together. not the worst theory i've seen about his last words as i've seen some shit lol, but not really convincing either

>You can say this about pretty much any big shonen pairing though

hmm, i'd have to disagree nona, although i understand where you're coming from. same sex friendships in manga almost always feel fruity, be it due to fanservice, cultural reasons, or both.
in this specific case though i genuinely think it's a different story. it's hard to explain though as the evidence is scattered through interviews, extras and subtext as opposed to it being a more showy type of fujobait with the huge "wtf, gay" moments you usually have with shonen. if one were to read the JJK manga without keeping in mind these tidbits of info, they would actually seem way less gay than the big m/m ships lol

>if one were to read the JJK manga without keeping in mind these tidbits of info, they would actually seem way less gay than the big m/m ships lol
I thought the reverse when watching JJK for the first time. I started with the anime so the way things were presented slightly differ from the manga though, and I read the manga a bit later. Nothing really happens between Gojo and Geto in the first season for obvious reasons but I didn't need to read any interview to understand that their relationship was compared to Yuta and Rika's when watching JJK0, it's all in the movie already. It's even more blatant in the second season/the flashback arc and the Shibuya Incident arc. I get that some of the scenes and opening/ending lyrics require translations to be understood by many fans though.

I'm kind of an old fart so maybe more recent shonen manga have gayer looking friendships than the ones I'm familiar with? I have a pretty bad memory but besides YYH and HxH having subtext as opposed to fanservice I remember Prince of Tennis, Hitman Reborn and D Gray Man being very popular with fujoshi but I never went very far into these series so I have no clue if they have plenty of fanservice or if it's just that these manga happen to have cute guys. I don't think I can include Gintama, it's a lot more episodic, way longer, I haven't finished the anime or the manga yet, and Gintoki canonically fucks at least Hasegawa and Kondo but only for the sake of comedy so it's its own category.

Because of long flashbacks and a "prequel" that's technically not a prequel because it was released before the main series.

>Also JP fans are massive cucks and they would never riot.

Whether they'd do it or not doesn't matter here, the manga is over for real this time so they already gave their money to the mangaka and the publishing company. The most they could do would be boycotting the next seasons of the anime and buying less figurines but there are a lot of other fans who don't ship anyone and who will still like the series enough to compensate. I can't imagine fujoshi being as furious as fanboys who destroy their books and BDs on camera when they learn their waifus aren't virgins and/or had a boyfriend before dating the main character for their favorite series. If some of them do it they don't post about it nearly as often then.

Damn, apparently I wasn't done ranting, my apologies.

>>6418
I mean, I was expecting a IzuOcha Endgame in 430 itself, in Jump's last in-magazine chapter amd when it wasn't there, I was happy to spend more time/money on canon and fandom. (I'd been burned before in other non-anime fandoms before).

At the point of 430 in early Aug, I wasn't really a big fan. I'd just watched the first season iirc as a very casual viewer. I read 430 spoilers, found out nothing was confirmed Endgame and saw all the gorgeous art and happiness of the fandom, mostly BkDks but also BakuTodo, KiriBakus, KamiJirous and to an extent, TogaChako (AUs where the kid lives). Got really really into the series by the time December rolled around.

So I got fooled thinking Deku'd be a hero again, that Bakugo & him would work together like they'd dreamed as kids, that they'd be competing like two best friends rather than the semi-desperate "I can only get you to look at me when you're trying to outdo me" race to the top (bottom, actually, like Endeavor & All Might).

Though, with them friendly and chummy like they are now, it's become more like we can just talk to each other like equals, finally. I just hate that when Izuku finally became his own person, he walks away from Bakugo. It's framed like all those BL manga we read that start with the protag's best friend he's got a crush on is getting married to his girlfriend and he finds another guy to fall in love with. As a multishipper, the possibilities are endless but sometimes you just want that one particularly elusive fish on the sea.

>>6425

Tell me about it anon. I've seen anti-bkdks on /a/ literally say "hori thanks the cuckqueans for all your time, money and engagement so far" and it just sucks. I've seen so many people have this as their first big fandoms and they're saying stuff like "now I'm afraid to trust any mangaka with the endings because they'd give a pretty but illogical ending".

>Poorly written NTR and crushing our dreams in the most casually our dreams

I've not seen a more perfect or apt description of this shitshow, thank you.

The IzuOchas and Cuck!Deku stans were fighting over imaginary slights while we got an actual "furare chimattana, bakugo" ("man, he rejected you, Bakugo") from Kirishima. I wish at least the stupid conversation between Bakugo and Izuku happened without an audience and played off like a gag. But others have pointed out - most of Bakugo's emotional moments are played off as jokes throughout the series.

I neither read BHA nor JJK but experiences have made me paranoid about m/m ships and characters that are beloved by fujos in shounen because I often feel like mangaka grow to hate ships or characters if they notice that women like them better than their shitty MC or main pairings.

This might be paranoid but I had such horrible experiences with sudden NTR out of nowhere, illogical, forced deaths and similar shit and it STRANGELY always happens to the characters or ships that are the number one among fujos. It's especially prevalent with male mangaka and comic writers too. So the killing of BkDk and the hatred of the JJK author against Gojo and killing of him plus an own devastating recent experience made me very aware of this shit again.

I also knew a guy IRL who seethed everytime women loved an antagonist instead of the MC so I genuinely believe that some men view the popularity of ships or characters they don't project into as personal rejection from women. I mean yes those women would reject them so it's even a correct assumption, but I still cannot shake off the feeling that male mangaka tend to lose their cool with this.
If you hate your own fucking characters and ship then maybe learn to create things you actually like.

The male mangaka hating fujo favorites is so true and it's funny - he actually killed Bakugo twice in the story but revived him (editorial maybe? ). His revenge might have been dishing out that bittersweet, unsatisfying and open-ended finale for Bakugo and BTFOing BkDk while canonizing IzuOcha.

He said in the author comments of the last popularity poll that he'd voted for Izuku and Izuku's closest to him. It's quite evident that he's drawing a self-insert a lot of times (including for endgame couple, maybe). The worst part is how dudebros of all nations have staunchly self-inserted as Deku and you absolutely cannot insult him on places like Twitter or Reddit without getting downvoted to oblivion (they have so many bots).

They also accused Bakugo fangirls of using bots to manipulate the popularity poll. But it turned out Izuku stans and Iida stans were the ones doing so and the organizers recounted.

A counterpoint is that over the years, the dudebros have accused Hori of having a massive hard-on for and propping up Bakugo, twisting the narrative to erase his bullying. But Hori himself once said that he regrets making Bakugo take it that far. They were also incensed about Hori making Izuku act like a battered wife so I guess the epilogue was also addressing that - Izuku banters with and teases Bakugo like a best friend instead of acting nervous, terrified of getting blasted. This confident & self-assured Izuku's more common in fics that ao3 writers do (the JP fandom seems to write him closer to canon unless they're doing the Aldera Middle School/Yandere personality Izuku, at least in doujins I've seen). I wish he'd made him grow a spine much earlier in canon, it'd have made for better storytelling and also reduced harassment over the years towards BkDks (maybe!).

For now we have to be thankful he drops BkDk illustrations while also remembering he will absolutely drop IzuOcha art in the future and the dudebros will once again harass shippers. Some of the artists who do official promo art seem to like BkDk too.

>Sometimes people just shit the bed when their taste isn't the one that's actually popular.
I never understood what psychoses someone has to have to get obsessed with this and feel personally hurt when the majority prefers a different ship. Usually they are more popular because the canon ones suck. I swear writers cannot think out of the box and view their own series as audience anymore. When I create shit I see myself as fan of it and I get most ideas because I know what I would think and want if I was the audience. But many self-insert so hard that they fail to see the whole and end up even contradicting their prior hints and writing to make the worst shit canon. Canon ships are usually the ones that make the lease sense tbh or often.

I am in a fandom where even the guys that get canon girlfriends end up with the wrong ones. Like you have one girl who literally shares most traits with one dude and even has the exact age and body that this dude is into but she never talks to him despite being in the same group because she is the waifu of another dude that has 0 chemistry with her.
Maybe the incel shitposts are right and many writers are friendless losers who can't write human relationships to save their life.

 No.6590

I think this is what she meant. That even het pairings are suffering from this.
I think the problem here is that male writers usually prefer the shitty tradwife pairing with weak, naive girl and in case of Maoh Emi was way too strong and equal to him which is why it would have been a great pairing but we cannot have that, because the writer is too insecure to imagine getting a real woman as wife.

I think a lot of creators simply hate characters that break the gender sterotypes.
Tomboys for example are usually getting jack shit and gay-coded men fall into the same category because a "real" man must get a boner and nose bleeding when he sees a woman or even a naked loli so I am almost sure that politics influence the mindset here even though I don't want to sound like a woke tard.

This is kind of how I feel about it. Like, wow a shonen author who acknowledges that crushes you have as a teen ain't shit? Revolutionary. Just kidding 8 years later they are still crushing on each other despite having little meaningful contact since then. It's so goofy. I know that feeling nonnie. It's not really what you're talking about but I have a few mutuals who like sakamoto days and with the anime coming in a few weeks I'm reminded of how much I kind of resent (not really) nagumo x shin. Feels like the most egregious case of shipping two hot, popular characters and having to jump through hoops to make them into the IT ship in the Eastern fandom. They barely talk (4 panels at most!!!), no previous history together to make it spicy, and their only relevance is to stand next to each other in splash art since Lu is no longer relevant kek. At least I'm guaranteed pretty fanart for both. Plus I also get a giggle out of some people seething over it beating their het ships.

But sometimes I can't help but sigh dejectedly and say, "Really? Out of everyone here you choose them as your OTP?"

> FMA/Harry Potter
based. I think my first fanfiction wave was literally crossovers exclusively because I NEEDED everything to take place in Naruto, Bleach and indeed- Harry Potter.

That being said, I had a notp similarly of Demyx/Zexion from Kingdom Hearts. They are the youngest looking and most attractive male members of Organization XIII and look like teenagers. There was no Birth by Sleep either, no lore. People just mass picked the two late teens looking boys and decided to ship them and I HATED it. Now? I don't care. But ages 14-18 I felt disgust at the utterance of any 'Zemyx.'

Oh, and they never once talk to each other, nor have a single exchange where they're in the same room. They breathe the same air at best and in their own game I am positive they don't even know each other's names.

They actually meet in KH3 but the game seems to be under the assumption you ship them because there is no way to read their cutscene together otherwise.

I feel like characters in the same series who make no attempt to know each other are more of a challenge than throwing characters from different series together and making them interact by way of unusual circumstances. In that respect I think your best bet is using an AU to push two characters to engage with one another, but you need a dynamic in mind to motivate this. When you grab guys from wherever you're more likely to pick them because they'll be interesting as a duo.

By the way, what era would the crossover ship craze have been? I completely missed Danny Phantom myself, not sure if it's not living in Canada/US or a generational thing. FF.net had shitloads of crossovers that required their own categories, but it was a regular gen fic occurrence rather than a notable craze. It was also more stuff like "the Beybladers go to Xavier's School for the Gifted" and "Inuyasha and Kagome accidentally go to Hogwarts and date gasp other people". I write crack pairings almost exclusively and always have. Inuyasha example, Jakotsu/literally any male cast member or Bankotsuo (i miss him.) C-tier bad guys for like, 3 episodes but I remember wanting fanfics of them because their motivations and deaths just had so much potential for making a life elsewhere.
