I believe we need containment thread for NOTP posting.
Post any NOTP that you fucking hate the reason can be anything canon, position, fans, etc. be petty as you want.
feel free to bash them or venting about it.
Dont visit this thread if you cant stand seeing your favorite ship get dunked.

I don't really have NOTPs just many pairings I don't give a shit about or fail to see the chemistry of. Usually, that's the most popular pairing.
Tbh I cannot remember more than five series at best since the year 2000 or so where the main ship was ever interesting or hot, regardless of whether I was into the series or not (that rhymes!). I feel like the mass tends to ship the childish and/or dumber characters IMO or the fragile uke and the evil seme, annoying hyperactive characters or brats.
It's one of the main reasons for why I don't end up in fan communities for the series I love. Being the only one talking about the ship you are into while everybody screams and creams their pants over the two dudes you consider boring is worse than just drawing fanart and staying in your own lane with the 3-10 others that like the same shit as you.

 No.5011

Agreed, most of the people Ive seen ship it only ship it because its "problematic!" and "taboo" with no consideration to the character's personalities or dynamic at all. Regardless of positions, I hate the perverted characterizations I see from both of them, from obsessed stalker Mob to sleazy sexpest Reigen… so ooc and unnerving, they may as well be ocs.

 No.5013

Does anyone have a ship that everyone thinks is your NOTP, but you don't actually feel that strongly? I mean like a ship where you're very vocal that the popular versions aren't right and you're sick of seeing it all the time, and that the characters are more like this and this in canon. At this point, because it's also a problematic ship and people would question my interests (which is stupid 'cuz the series already has rape and dismemberment), I just let acquaintances assume I hate all instances of it. The truth is I think the way people ship it at the moment is full of flanderizing and ignoring key character traits to make an OC out of one guy and preserve their favorite as he is. I've read fics from the 00s where the authors remembered to keep both of them in-character and the slow build up is way better, the way the more innocent one struggles and resists is taken seriously instead of a joke and that leads to really sexy descriptions. The current fanart and comics and stuff are always just making him tsundere and helpless instead of repulsed by murder and mutilation, and then when they skip that stage they just make him hollow and compliant so he no longer has his personality. It's frustrating because I'm more into him than the seme and the fact he fights back in canon and gets all pissy and growly is one of his best features, as well as drowning in despair and self hate when he thinks he's committed evils. It's frustrating to find every new fanart is some OOC rewrite who is OK with everything he stands against. I've definitely posted about this ship before but it's particularly awkward that I don't feel like I can say "no actually I think it's fine I just think they're fucking it up ALL the time." I'm not shipping it myself but I think there's more than enough in canon that plays around with it and I'm disappointed everyone's taking the easy option to make it work. I want to walk into their workspace and show them how to do their job and leave, lol.

 No.5017

>>5013
It sounds like you're talking about Optimus and Megatron including the dismembering part LMAO because that's also exactly what newer fans are doing and fics from the 00s were so much better. Like there are still good ones, but yeah I feel the same about such issues and transformers respectively the way fans often handle Optimus is a good example. People woobify one of them too much in modern times and it got so annoying that I ignored the shipping for years despite that they were ships I also casually enjoyed.
Anyway I agree I know that feeling. If something is popular enough fans will assume that you NOTP it if you argue against it even if it's just the way they are doing it that annoys you. I don't like OOC, woobifying and selfinserting and I see a lot of this happening, especially for older fandoms. Maybe fans lack new material so they start basing their stories off on other fanon that is based on earlier fanon and so on until the guys they ship have nothing in common with the originals anymore.

I always feel like I am party pooper, regardless of the fandom I am in. It's always me who dislikes ooc and the majority seems to be in love with it. I hate it since it would make me enjoy so much art and writing more if I could, but I can't. No matter how much I love a character (or especially because of that) I always dislike mischaracterizations of them.

 No.5159

>>4965
The fans of that only talk about how its antis who hate it. No, I don't believe you're a pedophile in real life for shipping. I just don't like it because I see it was ooc for Reigen. Him being that type of guy would make him a completely different character.

Sorry for the rant but I didn't wanna bring negative vibes to the BnHA thread.

My criticism isn't directed at the shippers of any couple. It's more that I'm peeved with the author for how he twisted the main pair to be together in the last chapter of My Hero Academia. I want to feel ecstatic about the manga's last chapter but I don't.

I feel like a douche for being upset but official art and merch of IzuOcha is starting and I feel kinda sick (even though they're both lovely and cute characters who deserve to have their happiness after years of suffering and I actually like the ship too).

I guess it's payback for years of Hori pandering hard to BkDks while ignoring IzuOchas. I'm not even part of the fandom or anything, I just lurk and I only got into BnHA in August, after I saw that no het ship was confirmed in the last chapter.

431 spoilers:
I didn't want my favorite ship, BkDk, to be so officially BTFOd with such finality. Like Hori literally didn't have to put that car conversation in. I mean, since I like KrBk too, their interaction was hilarious like Bakugo was the long suffering partner of Kirishima, who's the only one he really tolerates. But did Hori have to use him to say "He rejected you, Bakugo" wrt Izuku? Also, he could have used some other character like Iida to tell Izuku to find his special person. But that wouldn't be fair to the rare IidaIzu shippers. Those "special person" and car convo pages could have been spent on 1A and 1B banter easily.

Goddammit. I hate this feeling. I haven't had such insane fujo whiplash since MCU Endgame with every Steve ship.

I think this is what's going on with me. Bkdk was easily my favorite ship and while I was not invested in a way that broke my heart I'm still sitting over here like "damn really lmao???" every time I'm reminded about #431. Agnostic of shipping, what it says about Deku as a character also gave me the "ick" for lack of a better word. Like damn really lmao??? Really??? Lmao??? Just a waste of ink and paper.

I never read/watched MHA so it's a bit hard for me to comment on this, but if I understand it right the het pairing was just hinted as a possibility but not really pandered before? Because if that's the case it would be a really shitty move if BkDk was in the focus for such a long time. At least leave it open then so that everybody can have their fun.
I hate this stuff because it's always like a punch in the guts especially if it happens in the last third of the series or something and it usually does.

It's honestly the only reason for why I am on the fence about condemning authors that listen to fans because I think that sometimes, rarely, giving the fans some nods isn't bad but actually making a series much more enjoyable. Of course only if it doesn't radically change the plot I am not talking about that. What I mean is shit like Satoro Noda being fully aware of the shipping craze for his manga characters and giving the fans some hints and easter eggs. He clearly had fun doing it, fans went even crazier and the result was that the merch sold like hotcakes and still does, years after the manga has ended.

The characters that were supposed to die still died. So it's not like he rewrote the story, but I will forever be thankful to him for how much of a fun ride it was. A bit extra fuel never hurt anybody. Again I didn't watch MHA so maybe I totally misjudge it and the het pairing was planned from the start. But if not then it can't hurt being more neutral. Do men and het shippers even buy acrylic stands and all that? I only see fujos and yumes buying that and yumes usually prefer the male character solo, not the girl too.

I'm rationalizing it as Deku's always been a fantastic teacher for his peers with his in-depth analysis and he's looked up to All Might and Aizawa because they're incredible educators too. That's a thing I actually like, it makes sense for a quirkless guy who fought a war to put down the sword and pick up the chalk and inspire future generations. That too is All Might's legacy (he became a teacher after his capacity to maintain his big form diminished). And the suit means he gets to be like Aizawa who wasn't with any agency but is still a Pro Hero. I just hate that I have to infer so many things like that and Hori could have used those pages to explain it better than a clumsy conversion implying Deku gave equal billing to everyone as special. He had a tier - Inko, All Might, "Kacchan" and to an extent, Ochako. Then came people like Iida, Shoto etc. Or reject Bakugo outright when the Wonder Duo was built up and pushed so hard. Which I can rationalize as Izuku's no longer viewing Ll Might or Bakugo as something to chase after, that he doesn't care about hero rankings anymore and he's become his own person with his own dreams.
>>6338
Oh nona. The ending had so many shades of "betrayal" of BkDk I can't squeeze it in a mobile browser.

He basically made Deku reject Bakugo's offer to join his agency but he worded it like a love rejection akin to something you'd see in a shoujo manga or KDrama. He made Bakugo a wingman for IzuOcha by telling Izuku yo go after his special person. Heavily implied Kirishima's a special person to Bakugo due to what he lets him get away with.

In 430, Bakugo coordinated an expensive mech suit for Izuku and All Might, Izuku's mentor says that it's a power he's earned (Izuku has lost his magic shonen powers and is a teacher/lecturer now).

This suit let's Izuku go on hero missions with the class and lets Ochako interact with Izuku again (after 8 years of not speaking to each other due yo Izuku not being a hero anymore and all of them being busy). So the suit Bakugo gets for Izuku lets IzuOcha get together while Izuku rejects joining Bakugo's agency to be a hero. Granted, Bakugo asks him to quit teaching and join him (which I found strange - Bakugo never moved on from his childhood dream while Izuku has carved a life for himself). Maybe it was a theme Hori was going for? That Bakugo must create a dream for himself too, independent of Izuku and being the best hero. But that's a rather heavy reality check for Bakugo (and us, the audience - BkDks and non-BkDks alike have asked how Izuku just walks away from hero-ing after he loses his powers. Even All Might had a mech suit in the final fight).

Sorry if my replies are all over the place. It's hard to make sense and make peace at the same time.

I don't bha fujos, you read the most vanilla shounen with obv romance set up and wonder why the author set it up with the girl.

 No.6423

All this talk about MHA is reminding of what I'm currently seeing with the new JJK epilogues that just dropped a few hours ago. On one hand Yuji isn't confirmed to be dating or in love with the literal who who only showed up in one irrelevant chapter that the editor suggested and he's not confirmed to have grandkids like Yuta but on the other hand a lot of people assume that Yuji must be dating the literal who just because she said in an internal monologue that she loves him. Then there are a few Japanese fujoshi on bluesky looking either happy or relieved that Yuta becomes the heir of the Gojo clan after Gojo dies just because that means Gojo never had kids with anyone and never got married off screen so they can just assume that he really was into Geto the whole time. The issue is that the mangaka keeps revealing very important things in extras and interviews so I anticipate some new revelations that will ruin at least one popular gay pairing for its fans in the near future even if there's no way we'll ever get a sequel or more bonus chapters.

if satosugu gets ruined by new content, i expect massive backlash. they are one of the few shonen m/m pairings who might actually be canon, they can't take this win away from us. even without fujo goggles on i can safely say these two were gay for each other. will akutami risk losing a huge chunk of the fanbase? i imagine yumes would also riot if some girl gets confirmed as gojo's romantic interest.

i get your point nona but the heart wants what it wants. i never followed bnha so i dont care much for bakudeku, however i can see their appeal as a pairing. i've shipped myself lots of pairings that would have obviously ended up being btfo'd by the narrative and felt bad when it happened. i wouldnt say izuocha was an unexpected endgame, but being disappointed by it is understandable imo

i don't envy bkdk girlies. this sounds like poorly written NTR. what hurts the most when mangakas betray their female audience like this is that it seems like they go out of their way to crush out dreams in the most casually cruel way possible. like shoehorning an epilogue that completely blindsides you at the very last chapter, with a development so poor and out of nowhere you're just left in silence and go "alright then" when you finish it. they always pull this shit at the very end too, which feels extra bad because you don't have time to prepare yourself mentally for it, and because you feel used.
i think back on all the support i've given to the series in terms of buying merch, the manga, streaming the anime legally, making content for it etc. as opposed to men who usually just pirate the thing and call it a day, and yet they get the last laugh when the finale is out.
this happened enough times for me to stop giving male mangakas the benefit of the doubt, they actually just hate the part of the audience who pays their bills

 No.6428

>>6424
I also expect a backlash if that happens, but I'm sure Gege wants to move on from JJK and doesn't plan any sequel or spinoff so one part of his fanbase turning against him wouldn't affect him too much. I'm sure he's rich as hell now, so the only issues it could cause would be the next seasons of the anime being a bit less successful than planned and Shueisha just telling him to shut the fuck up for marketing reasons.

>they are one of the few shonen m/m pairings who might actually be canon

At this point it all depends on whatever Gojo told Geto before executing him. It's so confidential that there's a play adaptation of JJK0 right now in Japan and everytime the actors redo this scene Gojo's actor's microphone is muted on purpose and he always says a different line so people can't guess the line by reading his lips. It's so over the top it has to be important. Then there's video related that makes me even more curious: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zkWWRrs4qXs

>i imagine yumes would also riot if some girl gets confirmed as gojo's romantic interest.

I assume they've reached the same conclusion as fujoshi who ship Gojo with any of the guys and are glad he doesn't have kids that were suddenly revealed in the epilogue.

i agree, it would make or break them as a romantic possibility.
i think there are plenty of subtextual hints that point to them being in love with each other, and akutami isn't opposed to BL pairings either. he himself stated that a big part of his inspiration for JJK was a BL manga he loves dearly, so at the very least he's not your average homophobic male mangaka.
i wonder if he might eventually pull off a togashi with sensui/itsuki and confirm them in an interview or guidebook 10 years after JJK's ending. i brought up this specific example because akutami stated that geto is inspired by sensui btw lol
but all of this can easily be essentially useless if it turns out gojo told him "my best friend" before he died.

and thank you for sharing that video nona! i've never seen it despite being chronically online when it comes to stsg. it really makes you wonder…

You can say this about pretty much any big shonen pairing though. They wouldn't be as popular as they are if they weren't accessible to anybody with eyes and no bias against yaoi. Shonen men overwhelmingly have the lion's share of their powerful moments with other men. That's just facts!
>>6427
This is why I pirate manga and buy fanmerch. If it's getting tankobon deals fujo money does not matter. With shonen I'm usually reading for the art and context for the "x but the correct ship is canon" type fanfiction, lol. The story in a vacuum is never particularly special.

I'm also expecting this for the same reason. When I watched YYH as a kid a very long time ago it was already obvious that Sensui and Itsuki were an item, I only learned Togashi confirmed it way later when I started watching Level E. I haven't read the YYH manga so maybe it's even more obvious there. This is also similar to HP and how JKR confirmed that Dumbledore was gay for Grindelwald which wasn't a surprise to me as I read the last book shortly before this interview but it shocked movie only fans.

>but all of this can easily be essentially useless if it turns out gojo told him "my best friend" before he died.

If it weren't for Geto blushing and giggling when he heard that line I would have expected something like this. On top of that there's the novel stating Gojo never said it before because that line was way too embarrassing for any of them to say it as teenagers so it's not "you're still/always my best friend" or anything similar. And definitely not Gojo apologizing for anything either.

>>6430
>You can say this about pretty much any big shonen pairing though.
No I agree with her, these two's relationship is way too over the top and way too plot relevant to simply be shallow fanservice for fujoshi or
an ott friendship because the setting itself is ott. I can't think of anything similar on top of my head. Maybe narusasu is close enough but I have never finished the manga.

 No.6432

the apologizing theory sends me each time because it makes literally no sense when you piece all of the evidence together. not the worst theory i've seen about his last words as i've seen some shit lol, but not really convincing either

>You can say this about pretty much any big shonen pairing though

hmm, i'd have to disagree nona, although i understand where you're coming from. same sex friendships in manga almost always feel fruity, be it due to fanservice, cultural reasons, or both.
in this specific case though i genuinely think it's a different story. it's hard to explain though as the evidence is scattered through interviews, extras and subtext as opposed to it being a more showy type of fujobait with the huge "wtf, gay" moments you usually have with shonen. if one were to read the JJK manga without keeping in mind these tidbits of info, they would actually seem way less gay than the big m/m ships lol

 No.6434

>>6432
>if one were to read the JJK manga without keeping in mind these tidbits of info, they would actually seem way less gay than the big m/m ships lol
I thought the reverse when watching JJK for the first time. I started with the anime so the way things were presented slightly differ from the manga though, and I read the manga a bit later. Nothing really happens between Gojo and Geto in the first season for obvious reasons but I didn't need to read any interview to understand that their relationship was compared to Yuta and Rika's when watching JJK0, it's all in the movie already. It's even more blatant in the second season/the flashback arc and the Shibuya Incident arc. I get that some of the scenes and opening/ending lyrics require translations to be understood by many fans though.

I'm kind of an old fart so maybe more recent shonen manga have gayer looking friendships than the ones I'm familiar with? I have a pretty bad memory but besides YYH and HxH having subtext as opposed to fanservice I remember Prince of Tennis, Hitman Reborn and D Gray Man being very popular with fujoshi but I never went very far into these series so I have no clue if they have plenty of fanservice or if it's just that these manga happen to have cute guys. I don't think I can include Gintama, it's a lot more episodic, way longer, I haven't finished the anime or the manga yet, and Gintoki canonically fucks at least Hasegawa and Kondo but only for the sake of comedy so it's its own category.

Because of long flashbacks and a "prequel" that's technically not a prequel because it was released before the main series.

>Also JP fans are massive cucks and they would never riot.

Whether they'd do it or not doesn't matter here, the manga is over for real this time so they already gave their money to the mangaka and the publishing company. The most they could do would be boycotting the next seasons of the anime and buying less figurines but there are a lot of other fans who don't ship anyone and who will still like the series enough to compensate. I can't imagine fujoshi being as furious as fanboys who destroy their books and BDs on camera when they learn their waifus aren't virgins and/or had a boyfriend before dating the main character for their favorite series. If some of them do it they don't post about it nearly as often then.

this, also reincarnation is a thing in JJK and they meet in the afterlife

Damn, apparently I wasn't done ranting, my apologies.

>>6418
I mean, I was expecting a IzuOcha Endgame in 430 itself, in Jump's last in-magazine chapter amd when it wasn't there, I was happy to spend more time/money on canon and fandom. (I'd been burned before in other non-anime fandoms before).

At the point of 430 in early Aug, I wasn't really a big fan. I'd just watched the first season iirc as a very casual viewer. I read 430 spoilers, found out nothing was confirmed Endgame and saw all the gorgeous art and happiness of the fandom, mostly BkDks but also BakuTodo, KiriBakus, KamiJirous and to an extent, TogaChako (AUs where the kid lives). Got really really into the series by the time December rolled around.

So I got fooled thinking Deku'd be a hero again, that Bakugo & him would work together like they'd dreamed as kids, that they'd be competing like two best friends rather than the semi-desperate "I can only get you to look at me when you're trying to outdo me" race to the top (bottom, actually, like Endeavor & All Might).

Though, with them friendly and chummy like they are now, it's become more like we can just talk to each other like equals, finally. I just hate that when Izuku finally became his own person, he walks away from Bakugo. It's framed like all those BL manga we read that start with the protag's best friend he's got a crush on is getting married to his girlfriend and he finds another guy to fall in love with. As a multishipper, the possibilities are endless but sometimes you just want that one particularly elusive fish on the sea.

>>6425
Yeah anon, I'm too old to expect shounen (apart from Ao no Flag, which was a pleasant surprise) to have a canon gay ending. I was just really happy with the open-ended one in 430. To have that crushed is kinda devastating still.

>>6427
Tell me about it anon. I've seen anti-bkdks on /a/ literally say "hori thanks the cuckqueans for all your time, money and engagement so far" and it just sucks. I've seen so many people have this as their first big fandoms and they're saying stuff like "now I'm afraid to trust any mangaka with the endings because they'd give a pretty but illogical ending".

>Poorly written NTR and crushing our dreams in the most casually our dreams

I've not seen a more perfect or apt description of this shitshow, thank you.

The IzuOchas and Cuck!Deku stans were fighting over imaginary slights while we got an actual "furare chimattana, bakugo" ("man, he rejected you, Bakugo") from Kirishima. I wish at least the stupid conversation between Bakugo and Izuku happened without an audience and played off like a gag. But others have pointed out - most of Bakugo's emotional moments are played off as jokes throughout the series.

I neither read BHA nor JJK but experiences have made me paranoid about m/m ships and characters that are beloved by fujos in shounen because I often feel like mangaka grow to hate ships or characters if they notice that women like them better than their shitty MC or main pairings.

This might be paranoid but I had such horrible experiences with sudden NTR out of nowhere, illogical, forced deaths and similar shit and it STRANGELY always happens to the characters or ships that are the number one among fujos. It's especially prevalent with male mangaka and comic writers too. So the killing of BkDk and the hatred of the JJK author against Gojo and killing of him plus an own devastating recent experience made me very aware of this shit again.

I also knew a guy IRL who seethed everytime women loved an antagonist instead of the MC so I genuinely believe that some men view the popularity of ships or characters they don't project into as personal rejection from women. I mean yes those women would reject them so it's even a correct assumption, but I still cannot shake off the feeling that male mangaka tend to lose their cool with this.
If you hate your own fucking characters and ship then maybe learn to create things you actually like.

Tbf, it's happened in those cases too.
Sometimes people just shit the bed when their taste isn't the one that's actually popular.

>>6436 Yeah this ship is so random. Genshin m/m ships are always kind of random because there isnt many important male characters in the same regions. In the case of Fontaine, the only other males are Lyney( traveller simp) and Freminet(less screentime) so i guess people had to work with what they had. I wouldn't hate it so much if the shippers didnt make such weird cringey content.

The male mangaka hating fujo favorites is so true and it's funny - he actually killed Bakugo twice in the story but revived him (editorial maybe? ). His revenge might have been dishing out that bittersweet, unsatisfying and open-ended finale for Bakugo and BTFOing BkDk while canonizing IzuOcha.

He said in the author comments of the last popularity poll that he'd voted for Izuku and Izuku's closest to him. It's quite evident that he's drawing a self-insert a lot of times (including for endgame couple, maybe). The worst part is how dudebros of all nations have staunchly self-inserted as Deku and you absolutely cannot insult him on places like Twitter or Reddit without getting downvoted to oblivion (they have so many bots).

They also accused Bakugo fangirls of using bots to manipulate the popularity poll. But it turned out Izuku stans and Iida stans were the ones doing so and the organizers recounted.

A counterpoint is that over the years, the dudebros have accused Hori of having a massive hard-on for and propping up Bakugo, twisting the narrative to erase his bullying. But Hori himself once said that he regrets making Bakugo take it that far. They were also incensed about Hori making Izuku act like a battered wife so I guess the epilogue was also addressing that - Izuku banters with and teases Bakugo like a best friend instead of acting nervous, terrified of getting blasted. This confident & self-assured Izuku's more common in fics that ao3 writers do (the JP fandom seems to write him closer to canon unless they're doing the Aldera Middle School/Yandere personality Izuku, at least in doujins I've seen). I wish he'd made him grow a spine much earlier in canon, it'd have made for better storytelling and also reduced harassment over the years towards BkDks (maybe!).

For now we have to be thankful he drops BkDk illustrations while also remembering he will absolutely drop IzuOcha art in the future and the dudebros will once again harass shippers. Some of the artists who do official promo art seem to like BkDk too.

>Sometimes people just shit the bed when their taste isn't the one that's actually popular.
I never understood what psychoses someone has to have to get obsessed with this and feel personally hurt when the majority prefers a different ship. Usually they are more popular because the canon ones suck. I swear writers cannot think out of the box and view their own series as audience anymore. When I create shit I see myself as fan of it and I get most ideas because I know what I would think and want if I was the audience. But many self-insert so hard that they fail to see the whole and end up even contradicting their prior hints and writing to make the worst shit canon. Canon ships are usually the ones that make the lease sense tbh or often.

I am in a fandom where even the guys that get canon girlfriends end up with the wrong ones. Like you have one girl who literally shares most traits with one dude and even has the exact age and body that this dude is into but she never talks to him despite being in the same group because she is the waifu of another dude that has 0 chemistry with her.
Maybe the incel shitposts are right and many writers are friendless losers who can't write human relationships to save their life.

I remember guys shitting themselves at Maou sama ending up with Chiho instead of Emi (pic rel for funny seething) but I’m not sure if that’s what you’re referring towards?

 No.6590

I think this is what she meant. That even het pairings are suffering from this.
I think the problem here is that male writers usually prefer the shitty tradwife pairing with weak, naive girl and in case of Maoh Emi was way too strong and equal to him which is why it would have been a great pairing but we cannot have that, because the writer is too insecure to imagine getting a real woman as wife.

I think a lot of creators simply hate characters that break the gender sterotypes.
Tomboys for example are usually getting jack shit and gay-coded men fall into the same category because a "real" man must get a boner and nose bleeding when he sees a woman or even a naked loli so I am almost sure that politics influence the mindset here even though I don't want to sound like a woke tard.

To me it never mattered, I liked everyone in Maou sama and never really cared about ships in it so I didn't care who he ended up with
I think he just went with Chiho because she was the main girl in the anime. Either way the seething was entertaining to me.

It's been one million years and I'm still a little butthurt about Danny Phantom. I also remember the endings of Naruto and Bleach were more Ichiruki and Narusaku shippers getting dumped on more than Sasunaru and whatever Ichigo's popular yaoi ship was (Grimmjow?).
>>6582
>I was just really happy with the open-ended one in 430. To have that crushed is kinda devastating still.
This is kind of how I feel about it. Like, wow a shonen author who acknowledges that crushes you have as a teen ain't shit? Revolutionary. Just kidding 8 years later they are still crushing on each other despite having little meaningful contact since then. It's so goofy. Anyway as the fandom dies down Bkdk will continue to be the ship that gets the most content, just like Sasunaru before it and that is the metric that really matters (because if it didn't, nobody would be mad about it).

Was a bit too young for it as a kid (started airing when I was like 3 or 4) but when I watched some of it as an adult I liked the chemistry between Danny and Val, kind of a shame they went with the default 'nlog best friend' love interest.

Was that around the Kamino rescue arc?

RIP to Iida's character after the Stain arc and Kirishima's after the Overhaul arc. And then Endeavor overshadowed Shoto.

I wanted to see so much of class 1A and 1B but Hori had a few core themes he kept pushing and 200 new characters who were hit or misses.

I know that feeling nonnie. It's not really what you're talking about but I have a few mutuals who like sakamoto days and with the anime coming in a few weeks I'm reminded of how much I kind of resent (not really) nagumo x shin. Feels like the most egregious case of shipping two hot, popular characters and having to jump through hoops to make them into the IT ship in the Eastern fandom. They barely talk (4 panels at most!!!), no previous history together to make it spicy, and their only relevance is to stand next to each other in splash art since Lu is no longer relevant kek. At least I'm guaranteed pretty fanart for both. Plus I also get a giggle out of some people seething over it beating their het ships.

But sometimes I can't help but sigh dejectedly and say, "Really? Out of everyone here you choose them as your OTP?"

Admittedly, I wasn't in that part of the internet, but if my response made it seem I don't like crossover shipping then pls don't LOL. Some of my teenage years were spent reading FMA/Harry Potter crossovers and greatly enjoying the sans x sans ships of various aus (afterdeath, errorink, dreamberry, etc). I'm sure if I was born older then I would've absolutely tried out Danny Phantom x Any Nickelodeon char ship. If I sound to mean then I apologize but that doesn't mean I can't recognise why some people ship them and it not being my personal cup of tea.

> FMA/Harry Potter
based. I think my first fanfiction wave was literally crossovers exclusively because I NEEDED everything to take place in Naruto, Bleach and indeed- Harry Potter.

That being said, I had a notp similarly of Demyx/Zexion from Kingdom Hearts. They are the youngest looking and most attractive male members of Organization XIII and look like teenagers. There was no Birth by Sleep either, no lore. People just mass picked the two late teens looking boys and decided to ship them and I HATED it. Now? I don't care. But ages 14-18 I felt disgust at the utterance of any 'Zemyx.'

Oh, and they never once talk to each other, nor have a single exchange where they're in the same room. They breathe the same air at best and in their own game I am positive they don't even know each other's names.

They actually meet in KH3 but the game seems to be under the assumption you ship them because there is no way to read their cutscene together otherwise.

Ohh my memories are unlocked, zemyx, also saix x xemnas, they were so popular back then.
I think part of the reason for their popularity came from how different the two are. Zexion is this emo looking bookish nerd, while Demyx is a carefree musician with shaved hair and a laid-back vibe. That contrast must have fueled so many fan headcanons.

 No.6630

>>6627
At least Saix and Xemnas spoke to each other in canon. Zexion and Demyx never met in KH2. My ship was Xigbar x Demyx. I feel vindicated thanks to KH3's Luxu business and that in 358/2 Days, Demyx calls Xigbar "Xiggy."

Besides, Zexion was better off with Lexaeus. That was hot

I feel like characters in the same series who make no attempt to know each other are more of a challenge than throwing characters from different series together and making them interact by way of unusual circumstances. In that respect I think your best bet is using an AU to push two characters to engage with one another, but you need a dynamic in mind to motivate this. When you grab guys from wherever you're more likely to pick them because they'll be interesting as a duo.

By the way, what era would the crossover ship craze have been? I completely missed Danny Phantom myself, not sure if it's not living in Canada/US or a generational thing. FF.net had shitloads of crossovers that required their own categories, but it was a regular gen fic occurrence rather than a notable craze. It was also more stuff like "the Beybladers go to Xavier's School for the Gifted" and "Inuyasha and Kagome accidentally go to Hogwarts and date gasp other people". The isekai magic academy of its day.

I was teasing anon but honestly, it only really annoys me when/if there's a push for a ship that doesn't even have potential outside of general attractiveness and the most shallow College AU tropes.

I write crack pairings almost exclusively and always have. Inuyasha example, Jakotsu/literally any male cast member or Bankotsuo (i miss him.) C-tier bad guys for like, 3 episodes but I remember wanting fanfics of them because their motivations and deaths just had so much potential for making a life elsewhere. But, say, Sesshoumaru x Koga is more or less "they're attractive" and that's about… it. Picrel was A++.

>By the way, what era would the crossover ship craze have been?

I want to say 2008-2010? The new stories were a huge storm of anime x popular cartoon or anime x anime. Hitman Reborn and High School DxD are the repeats I've seen the most.
