Discuss and reminisce about the legendary shipping wars that happened in your time as a Fujo.
Examples:
>FrUK vs. USUK
>Makoharu vs. Rinharu
>Klance vs. Sheith

klance vs. sheith was the start of a LOT of this current moral-policing, i feel. klance fans just couldn't stand sheith having not only ic chemistry (that went past the very basic, generic, one-sided rivalry their otp possessed), but ooc staff support as well. the moment shipper girlies discovered how they could sway majority opinion by claiming shit was PROBLEMATIC that wasn't actually problematic at all is when things went sour.

to this day i think it would've been canon – or at least heavily implied TO be canon – were it not for klancers doing insane shit like sending bomb threats to the studio and baking needles into cookies.

In middleschool I bullied my irl friends for not liking my OTP solkat (homestuck shit sollux and karkat)
And then in highschool I sent 'kys' type anon hate on tumblr to people that liked eren/levi because I was a big eren/armin fag at the time

I'm chill now and just don't care what people like

Thats so nostalgic kek.. i loved levi x eren and eren x armin as well I remember people arguing about who eren looks good with but i didnt get what the big deal is lol since all variations of yaoi pairings in the show were fun and interesting to me then that era where the erevi tag was filled with moralfags spamming it lmao i remember my 15 yr old self being so angry at the whole thing

Obvious bias since I shipped Sheith and hated Klance, but how the fuck did Klance ever get so popular? They talked like 4 times in the entire show and most of it wasn't even interesting it was just typical one sided rivalry where Keith wouldn't give a shit if Lance got blown up.
The only kind of gay scene was when they were in the bath house together and even then that was after Klance was shilled by everyone for no reason.

At least shit like Leakira was funny in how stupid it was.

>how the fuck did Klance ever get so popular?

ahem.

>blue/red coloring

>"rivalry" dynamic (even though it's as you said and keith doesn't give a fuck about lance)
>aidens and etc. girlies self-inserting into lance because they wanted keith (and they also wanted to get their fujo rocks off)
>sheith got you bullied.

 No.227

I feel like besides what OP mentioned I haven't seen proper ship wars for gay pairings in such a long time I can't recall any of them. I could easily tell you about the shit I've seen for straight pairings though despite not even caring about fans of said pairings and avoiding them online as much as possible.

>>120
>>122
I remember when that cursed series got very popular with underaged fujo on tumblr. At the very beginning one of my best friends loved it and shipped Klance because she thought it had potential to be cute. Then the ship wars that happened once it got more seasons ruined the entire series for her so she stopped watching it after season 3 or 4 I think? I got curious later and thought it was kind of boring but I think it's just because I'm not part of the target audience and don't have the patience for anime and cartoons anymore anyway.

We both had a good laugh when we heard about how the last episode went and how everyone reacted to it though.

>>5
>baking needles into cookies.
Wasn't it completely unrelated? I thought it was done to an Undertale fan in an Asian con, but it's been so long since then I might have forgotten a lot of details.

 No.231

I was pretty active in the Free! fandom when I was younger but come to think of it I can't really remember any major drama that happened with Makoharu and Rinharu. I imagine there's probably people who thought Rin was abusive and Makoto just boring, though.

I'm afraid not, while the homoerotic subtext between sheith was done on purpose, keith was supposed to be paired with acxa and shiro was supposed to be dead

 No.235

Is it just me or do old-fashioned ship wars not even happen anymore? Unless I'm out of the loop, the last significant one I can think of was Sheith vs Klance and even that was a while ago now.
Would you say current fandom flamewars more focused on shipping morality in general, e.g. antis vs proshippers/anti-antis?

 No.236

>>235
i see ship drama, but i don't usually see ship wars. there's a lot of small-scale drama in the haikyuu fandom, for example, and certain ships have it out for other ships, but none of it ever blows up significantly. it's just a bunch of people subtweeting each other over things like someone writing a cute moment between one ship to be for another ship, for example.
there's a little more drama in eastern fandoms, but nowadays i'd agree the real cultural schism is antis vs. proshippers.

 No.237

>>235
I see a lot of yuri and het shippers arguing these days, but that's mostly because het shippers are dumb and can't read the room while yuri shippers add fuel to the fire. Fujos argue sometimes about top/bottom positions but other than antis vs proshippers there are no actual ship wars

 No.239

I've never been deeply involved in the hero academia fanbase but from my surface level understanding of what gay ships there are it wouldn't surprise me if there's been arguments between Bakudeku and Kiribaku shippers on whether Bakudeku is abusive and therefore Kiribaku is the superior ship.

 No.243

>>239
MHAfujo here, I can confirm that fujos would activatly shit one each ship so theirs get posted more. I'm in the kiribaku realm of things so I see a lot of "bakudeku is abusive!!" And so on, I don't engage in the fandom for those reasons, just give me the fanart and leave.

>Makoharu vs. Rinharu
Oh boy, I think that was my first shipwar. It was all over tumblr but I was lucky to not see much of it there. On the other hand, facebook and youtube comments were a cesspool and it was annoying as fuck. Makoharu is still the best tho.

>Klance vs. Sheith

I was there for that one. I remember trying to look up sheith fanart on tumblr when the ship name didn't even exist yet. Every fucking time we had a new episode tumblr would be flooded with klance fanarts and delusional shippers making posts about how the two stars in the background of X episode at exact 00:15:37 were red and blue and that meant that klance was going to be canon

>We both had a good laugh when we heard about how the last episode went and how everyone reacted to it though.

Because of this thread I ended up watching a video that recapped all the drama in the voltron fandom and in the end I found it legitimately funny how EVERYONE lost. Both ships got torpedo'd and it sounds like even the people who were just invested in the main plot got screwed over.

Come to think of it I guess that also happened with BBC sherlock and supernatural.

I'm going to sound like an Ignorant White Woman (TM) but why the hell are Genshin Fujos so pressed about who tops or who bottoms?

They non ironically treat Character X being a top or bottom like it's a made up gender, and than act like reversing the dynamic is the worst thing ever.

 No.623

>>622
I'm not into Genshin but I've noticed more people in the west caring about who tops/bottoms way more than ever in recent years. I feel like it used to be that it was just assumed that all ships were switch and now not so much.
My best guess why this is happening is that japanese fujos have always been this anal about who tops and it's just been spreading to the west

I'm not in the genshin fandom but it doesn't surprise me to hear that cause from what I've seen people say it seems to be Voltron levels of toxic and full of teenagers repeating tumblr discourse from the 2010s.

On a personal level I follow an artist who draws for that fandom who got death threats for drawing NTR art

 No.626

>>622
I also noticed this in recent years with JJBA fujos arguing to the death over Kakyoin, it's just retarded. Everyone has different preferences, who cares. Some try to make it about "accurate characterization" as if there's some kind of sex horoscope lol cmon. Whoever can do whatever. Or they pretend that making the bigger guy bottom is a subversive political statement instead of just a tag on your gay little fanfic.

 No.627

>>622
In what way do you mean it? I've seen several kinds of top/bottom discourse lately.
One is the typical anti-fujo sentiment. "Real gay people switch!/Real gay people aren't like that! Assigning top/bottom roles is fetishization! It shouldn't matter who tops or bottoms, you like the ship and that's it! etc."
On the other hand, I think I did quite unironically see a genshin artist say something that was "I saw Aether/Xiao and got so triggered I started crying. PLEASE tag reverse ships." (they're xiaoether) which was really fucking funny. Kaeluc artists are also like this too, way much worse actually.
In general, I think it's a thing of preference. Unfortunately, fanarts and fics and everything inbetween aren't perfect. There's too much pseudo selfinsertion in shipping and feminization of the bottom to reflect on that selfinserty feel.
To avoid seeing the character you like be an uwu blushy big eyed kawaii abomination (or worse, a tranny), you pretty much have to stablish which character do you prefer to see better as top or bottom.
It depends on the franchise too. It's a pretty fucking autistic endeavor but I honestly kinda get it.
This anon brought up the Kak example >>626 so I guess I'll go with it.
Kakyoin is specially the kind of character that goes through so much fujo flanderization it's not even funny. He'll be a softboi whether you like it or not, even if he isn't like that. Of course though, you're not better for making Jotaro bottom either or by making Kak into a top. But it just so happens that the majority of his content is this way that you just have to go through hoops to avoid it.
Kinda like with people who would want top Deku in Bakudeku, which in this case would be Dekubaku (is that even a thing though?). The dynamics simply change.
Some people also DO want that content though, some people obviously want the effeminate looking guy to bottom and that's fine. And that's why it's also necessary to tag it if needed. I think during promare some people tried to make "noo you have to make lio into a top because something something genderization" or whatever, when some people just simply wanted to see that twink fucked. Different dynamics, tastes, etc.

tldr; autism.

>To avoid seeing the character you like be an uwu blushy big eyed kawaii abomination (or worse, a tranny), you pretty much have to stablish which character do you prefer to see better as top or bottom.
This is pretty much it. I actually don't mind the idea of my OTP switching in bed at all, might be interesting even, the problem is whoever is bottoming will be depicted as a fragile crying uke and that's what fucking triggers me, so you end up having to establish a preference in the relationship dynamics that basically comes down to choosing who you think is the manlier character. Of course a specific character being always depicted as the typical bottom can be pretty hot sometimes, but I think that's more the exception to the rule. Overally I think the issue is making bottoms feel like little girls. If the bottoms were still in character or were allowed some masculinity despite the fact they're taking a dick in the ass few people would get so worked up over top/bottom roles.

>>676
The archetypical example people always give when discussing how fujoshi tend to flanderize characters is how effeminate the uke is inclined to be portrayed, but personally that's never been my point of contention.
I've always hated how some people will portray the seme as a heartless rapist. An orc, if you will.
With fujoshi, people usually (not always, but usually) will put their favorite character on the bottom.
Meaning the character they portray as the seme tends to get the shaft.
In Japanese, they call this the 棒化 of the seme, literally rodification, which is to say they're portrayed as a walking dildo and not much else. This is frowned upon, but of course some people characterize the seme like this anyway.
I can't stand to see my favorite characters portrayed as cold, emotionless mob-ojisan rapists, so if I notice that being a trend in fanworks I'll gravitate towards fanworks where they're the uke - and well, if they're portrayed as a crybaby bitch in some of those works, to me that's still the lesser of two evils.

 No.690

>>676
Even after decades as a fujo I still don't understand why that's pretty much guaranteed to happen no matter what. Like even if the character in the uke role should be pulling the strings and power bottoming it's pretty much guaranteed he'll be turned into a delicate melodramatic shojo girl instead at least 75% of the time. I find this particularly cursed with a pairing I'm into these days because literally the only reason the character that usually gets the uke role is assigned to it is because he's short and that's it, personality and dynamic wise he's the dominant one in the source material, so it's cringe when he's turned into a "little girl" as you put it, might as well be OCs at that point.

It doesn't even feel like it's done for fetish purposes either. It's almost like they just can't comprehend the idea of the "receiver" enjoying or taking a proactive role during sex. Maybe it comes out of ignorance due to their own fucked up relation with sexuality and then projecting that onto men taking dick but that's just armchair psychology.

>>689
>I've always hated how some people will portray the seme as a heartless rapist. An orc, if you will.
I hate this too especially when the source material has shown them to do things like get extremely shaken when the other character gets hurt or whatever.

 No.691

>>689
>>690
It definitely feels like there's a stronger tendency of the author turning their favorite character into their self insert.

Maybe this is me being old but it's like fandom no longer cares about Mary Sues and OOC, which means there's more fic that functions as the author's therapy sessions. I just want to see my two fave guys together, not read about proxy struggles with mental health/trauma/transness etc. And than it turns into ship wars when they see a different take on the characters as a personal attack.

 No.692

>>689
I never cared about this or even thought about this until recently, but lately I've been enjoying (in my imagination since it's pretty much non-existant in mainstream works) the seme making more moaning noises and showing that they're feeling as good in sex as the uke. Usually the uke is shown making the most noise and having all the fun while the seme has a stone cold emotionless face on. I'd love to see more works where the seme gets so into it that he could almost be mistaken for the bottom with how much he's feeling good.

 No.693

It bugs me more with fan works than original works.

 No.694

If you're interested in that sort of thing I recommend looking into works with wanko semes, or younger semes in general. The good thing about modern BL is that there's lots of variety out there, if you take a little bit of time to look.

I was also in the free fandom and mostly I remember fans fighting around the last episodes of season two about which pairing would be "endgame". The discussion became heated because a fan translator supported rinharu and said some nasty comments so some people called her out on her translations being biased. It was funny when makoharu ended up together in tokyo and she tried to made it seem as if rinharu fans won. That's really what I recall most, squabbles happened once in a while but it was usually pretty tame comparing to ship wars that happened in later fandoms.

Controversial opinion but I think ship wars are hilarious and part of fandom culture. There are some people who do take it way to seriously though which is super annoying, but ship wars can lead to some great trolling. It's always funny to see people reply to the most obvious bait post and get mad at it.
In my experience it's also easy to avoid, just don't engage with people who tries to start drama. Delete anon hate, block people who tries to start shit. Because whenever you engage with it you are only encouraging people to harass you more

I never liked either of those, and the slapfighting was embarrassing. Klance idiots were pure cancer, and the dumbass staff on the show were idiots too for egging those people on.
