>>15069Hiveminding is so annoying. People always hate the same shit for a different excuse. There are so many cases in which 4chan and tumblr seeth about the exact same characters or series that I asked myself if might actually be the same people who just roleplay as leftist on tumblr, respectively as rightoids when they're on 4chan. But the truth is probably that they don't engage with fiction at all or at least not neutrally and just adapt whatever bullshit notorious youtubers or fans are spewing.
When I joined the transformers fandom my favorite character was so despised and hated on tumblr in particular that you couldn't go a day without another "thinkpiece" textwall in which someone projected every evil thing and radical politician/guy (including torquemada, hitler and trump) into that guy even for the parts where it made no sense. Thought "oh oh" when I saw that before posting my first fanart. But then I did it anyway and besides some people seething about that guy after seeing my art (but not me, for some reason) eventually others started drawing him too and things calmed down!
I doubt that I am the trigger for that. But being chill about liking le ebil/weird/unpopular characters helps normalizing this and making people aware that they're seething about potentially gay 2D creatures instead of actual mass murderers.
You are just one out of many, but it has to start somewhere. Hiding it would be the wrong choice, it would only influence even more labile people who are afraid of developing their own taste.

>>15071>But being chill about liking le ebil/weird/unpopular characters helps normalizing this I remember some years ago during 2016-2018, liking villain / evil characters became something to hate people over or call them a word salad "apologist" of every evil in the world, it somewhat stopped in some manner but you still see it from time to time depending on the fandom. It's weird when I see it because people have romanticized the term "toxic yaoi" so much over the years when actually legitimate toxic dynamics are present in a ship, often with an actual villain and not some random bully 'rival', they start to be like "uhmm this is abuse"

I remember even seeing them going ballistic in some fandom I forgot the name of because some fans were sfw shipping the characters. As in, just drawing them blushing and such. And yes I also blame tumblr.
What angers me even more is that there are zero hints for them being actually woke, progressive, anticapitalist, call it whatever. They NEVER care about stories that actually thematize these topics, they also never talk about real people and problems. Maybe the lack of connection was a blessing. You have the same phenomenon with idiot boomers. Back in the day you had those shizos too but they never mattered because they were isolated. Now all backwater towns' shizo boomers connected with each other and formed at least one political party in every country that gain momentum because more shizos join and a lot of other boomers discover the hidden shizo in them that they always had but suppressed before.
Social media made every bullshit seem legit and mainstream and we reap what they have sown. For fandoms I don't even care what fetishes people have but it's annoying when everybody joins a hivemind. At least save for Transformers I never had a fandom with trans fanart AFAIK and even the TF shit is limited to porn, so I never saw anybody calling any of my favs women so far (I know they do it with Starscream though, but I am more into other dudes).

Also, there's this weird thing I've noticed (especially in the past 5 or so years) where people will say something like, "it's not the character's fault! It's the writing!" I don't know if I'm retarded or what, but I don't get this. If a female character was written poorly by a man who clearly hates women, that's what the character is. Nobody's blaming a fictional entity, so I never get why people have to clarify it's not the character's fault. That's like saying it's not Scar's fault he chose to kill Mufasa; he was just written to want to kill Mufasa. Like, yeah, when a character is being criticized, it's generally a critique of the writing. The characters do not possess independent consciousness.

>>15107I don't know the live action ones other than Hermione, but she's definitely not that hated if the history of gorillion of Dramione pseudo self-insert fics are anything to go by.
Misa is disliked for being annoying, but she's not that hated.
Mikasa is an absolute blackhole of a character who never changed from MUH EREN, they tried giving her something (the whole japanese long lost princess thing) and it went nowhere, so they had to dial more into MUH EREN and retroactively ruin Eren too as a character.
Annie I'd say is pretty hated for different reasons. She's a traitor and a bitch, so she served that purpose well. She killed a ton of people without remorse but eventually her character is "redeemed", even turns out alive and well. She also gets shipped with Armin (even within the story) and people also don't like Armin either so to an extent they hate both. Many other characters end up dead or suffer more than Annie ends up doing ultimately, so it all only matters depending on how someone would feel overall regarding the plot developments quite frankly.
Gabi deserves all the hate she gets. She's everything wrong with SNK's part 4. They took Eren's titan autism and dialed it up to the max and she's neither charismatic or funny. If she's in that picture it feels like someone trying to defend her for the sake of it. There are far too many reasons to dislike her.
Mitsuri…She's neither liked or disliked in my opinion? Cosplay attentionwhores LOVE to cosplay as her because she's feminine and pink, she's like THE "cute girl" to pretend to like if you don't even care about anime. Characterwise, she doesn't do much of anything? She has her moments but ultimately she ends up being shipbait with Obanai. Most people end up remembering her over that.
Shinobu is really not hated. Maybe by men since she never expresses any interest in Tanjiro (so they can't self-insert) or maybe by some GiyuuTan fujos that don't like when they see her with Giyuu (because Shinobu gets shipped with Giyuu for whatever reason). She's actually so not-really-hated that people actually DO hate when she's shipped with Douma, because it's abuse, he killed her sister, etc etc the usual bundle of toxic ship complaints (I don't care personally).

Everyone knows why the Big 3 main shonen girls (Orihime, Sakura, Hinata) were hated. It was usually a combination of shipwars and being incompetently written. Orihime is saved by a BARELY miraculous grace of not being written by Kishimoto, so she can be competent sometimes. Most of her hate was shipwars though. Sakura has legitimate criticisms and while it's true she was the representative of "overhated female character", it was also for good reason too.
Ochako, much like Hinata, pretty much exist for one thing and that's to be the MC's LI. Ochako wasn't as grating as far as eventual-forced-LIs go but she also pretty much did nothing through most of BNHA's runtime. Most of her hate also came due to shipwars, but also because her character basically didn't really go anywhere and at points it felt like she HAD to like Deku (because that's her purpose) even when it seemed that she'd do things without Deku. They gave her a pseudo "yuri" copout so some people started disliking her less due to that for a time, but then went back to disliking her when her character became Deku orbiter again ultimately.
Anyway those are my several cents as a shonenshitter. Surprisingly I haven't seen JJK, but I can tell Nobara already suffers from "written by a guy who doesn't know how to write women". She's a girl stuck in a sausagefest and while she's probably not bad, she's likely just underutilized.
I feel like the people who make these posts are usually people who simply see "fem character hated in fandom" and feel the need to like/defend on the basis of being a woman, nevermind what they do / don't do in the plot

>>15121>Surprisingly I haven't seen JJK, but I can tell Nobara already suffers from "written by a guy who doesn't know how to write women". Gege is actually decent at writing female characters. The things you can criticize them for are things that apply just as much to male characters and in an interview with Tite Kubo, Kubo kinda laughed at Gege for not drawing hot women or something like that. As for Nobara in particular, spoilers just in case
some people will say she's badly written because she removed from the plot for half of the story and isn't as strong or as important as Yuji or Megumi because muh trio but that's because she's just a character like any other and not "the heroine", in a way. And these same people will tell you her waking up from a coma at the end is bad writing and just fanservice but it's subjective. I didn't see anything wrong with it, there was foreshadowing and I believe Gege removed her from the plot because her technique is way, wayyy too strong against Sukuna in particular. What's kinda funny is that the one scene with Nobara where Gege forces himself to write a more feminist scene is pretty bad.
She tells a girl around her age dealing with crazy abusive and sexist male relatives ruining her life that she victimizes herself and that she likes being cute or something like that. It was a very shallow girl power type of scene. It made Nobara look stupid because guess what, a few arcs later that same girl gets murdered by her sexist father who thinks she's just a burden and prevents him from inheriting a huge house, money, power, titles, weapons, etc. And we also see her much older male cousin talking about her ass and boobs because he's disgusting like that. Lots of people have assumed that since JJK's beginning was forced to be as cliche as possible by editors then Nobara was inspired by Sakura but Gege said he based her off a shojo manga protagonist he liked a lot as a teenager without realizing it, so they have the exact same backstory.

>>15107ngl this behavior reminds me of a certain subset of people in the rp scene who always like female characters by default but they don't understand/care about them on a deeper level because the female characters are only a self insert vehicle for their yumeing. as long as the female character is sort of cute they will support her and ship her with all the hot male characters. female oc and "mary sue" hate was really rampant back in the day so shipping a canon female character with a male character basically gave you a pass even though that was also just tinly veiled yumeing when you looked at their writing and couldn't even recognize the female characters in question because they were written so ooc-ly. there are some female characters I like in this pic (nobara, mitsuru, shinobu, sakura, javadi, santos) but the rest I either don't care about or don't know. except for Hermione, whom I actually dislike. also, katara should be up there too, she's insanely annoying but also very popular as a self insert vehicle.

>>15107I think the absolute worst fandom for this behavior currently is Genshin. They're absolutely schizophrenic about defending every single thing the writers do regarding the women over there, from what I see. Think its lame that the women in the villain group are having tea parties together? Kinda disappointed that one of the characters that was shaping up to have a creepier personality is instead a total moeblob? Prepare to get absolutely skinned alive. It's honestly so hard to understand. They're so fucking annoying about people wanting a bit more variance in how the women behave and will screech to high Heaven you're just a dumbass that hates when women are allowed to be "just one of the girls!!" Discussion around female characters has become untenable because the only possible reason you could have for disliking one is "superfluous" or "unjustified" and not because you simply just… actually read/watched whatever she was from and came out of the experience not liking her. Every person who dislikes her only dislikes her out of spite/bad faith to these types. Hell, I like Ochaco and Hinata but understand why they receive criticism as characters; I know not every single comment against them is because of shipping autism.

>>15122One nice thing I can say about JJK is that the girls are just kinda hanging out and if any of them give/receive romantic inclinations they are so tertiary to everything that I am not instantly annoyed like I am when I see that Ochako/Hinata/Orihime is in focus so I know it's mostly gonna be about their feelings for the MC. Normie girl likes Yuji. Mechamaru liked Kasumi. Maki gets with Yuta off screen. It's all very unobtrusive (AND doesn't explicitly cuck any noteworthy m/m ship).
>a shojo manga protagonist he liked a lot as a teenager without realizing it, so they have the exact same backstoryIt's funny to read that he lifted this from a shojo because I noticed Nobara seemed to have her own shit going on in a way that shonen girls usually don't. She's got hobbies (fashion, Smash bros, dropping that YYH ref) and that whole Thing with her mom that while not at all relevant to the story made her seem way more real.
