I've realized that one of the reasons that I like monster boy (aside from the cute and interesting designs), is the, I guess, discovery aspect of it, ie, either a human and a monster or two separate monsters are introduced to new biology/cultures/magic/etc
I think The Snake Who Loved a Sparrow was super interesting because of this (although, fair warning, it might parse as cuntboy to sensitive readers. I think there may have been some brief slit fingering, but there were dicks on dicks after that)

Like you said, werewolves and etc I think are the easiest to remove from the omegaverse cliches (because they have cliches of their own kek). I once read an inuyasha fic about a rut, which I quite liked.
