How do I get over this feeling of having a mansion's worth of imaginary people living rent free in my head whenever I like something tangentially problematic?
I don't interact with people in any capacity anymore, but I already feel pure pain in knowing that I like "bad" things and just isolate on principle
No.218
>>217this is going to sound kinda schizo, but i started giving the intrusive thoughts in my head stupid names and personas and that's actually helped a lot. like, i might think 'you're an awful person and that's why you have no friends,' and instead of internalizing it, i'll be like 'oh, that's just tony saying dumb things in my head again.' distancing myself from those thoughts is usually a good way for me to recognize that they're intrusive and keep me from going into a negative thinking spiral. sometimes i go even further and start picturing the speakers in really dumb situations or outfits, too.
it might also help to look into 'moral OCD.' i have a friend who has a serious case of that and constantly avoids doing things because 'someone might get hurt.'

No.222
>>220(diff anon)How important is it that you get both your nails and massage done at the same place? If you're struggling to find somewhere decent that does both it wouldn't hurt to get them done at separate places. You can always get your mani+pedi done at a nail salon first, and then treat yourself to something nice for lunch before heading over to the massage parlor or something like that.
When looking at reviews make sure you're sorting them by newest first. It would probably be a good idea to keep an eye out for ones that mention friendly staff, especially if this is your first time doing something like this. If you have any female coworkers you can talk to, you can try asking them for recommendations too.
Sorry I'm a bit of a sperg who hasn't had a spa day in quite some time, but I hope I could help out somewhat because I know how nice and relaxing of an experience they can be. Good luck, I hope you figure out something that works out for you!

I constantly have a BL story running in my head and after reading a manhua (Big Apple) today it sparked an idea for a new one but I don't know how the fuck to progress the story!!
The premise of the two main characters is the same, they're established lovers and have secret (dangerous) jobs that they don't tell each other about, except in my story they work for opposing sides.
What if B is sent on a mission to spy and assassinate the head of the opposing group, only to be caught and presented to A (who wants to kill him)? How does A react that his lover that he was looking so forward to seeing again is now thrown at his feet? How does B react that the head of the group he's working against (or has to kill) is now in front of him? Where does their relationship go from here?! Does anyone have any mangas/manhuas/original work fics or fanfics that follow a similar premise? Or please give me ideas, I feel like I've got a cliffhanger for a show in my own head and I'm desperate to find out what happens next but all my scenarios suck kek

Meeting people on twitter is hard because of the god awful search function unless you already know people from somewhere else. On my first twitter accounts I was mutuals with former tumblr friends as soon as I made these accounts for example.
No.323
>>322>Meeting people on twitter is hard because of the god awful search functionAs flawed as tumblr is, the tagging system makes everything so much more convenient. Looking for good fanart is a nightmare these days cause pixiv seems less active and apparently artists started using twitter more, but good luck actually finding good art of your favourite ships. You basically have to follow the right artists and then pray the twitter suggestions send you more peope you are interested in or hope the artists already know the right people to retweet.
No.324
>>323I kind of miss pixiv, even if it were never all that convenient. It seems like Japanese artists who didn't completely give up on pixiv just use it to archive their art after they've posted everything on twitter and insta. And even then, I've seen some artists I've known for a long time removing a lot of content from their pixiv accounts for some reason. In a more general way, I guess I'm very good at maintaining my privacy online because I never get recommended things that appeal to me.
Speaking of instagram, I used it to just post food and vacation pics but I'm gonna delete it soon. At some point I was following a lot of artists and instagram is so fucked up that most pictures would be horribly pixelated unless they're taken with the latest iphone, I feel bad for the artists using it. And the explore page is awful. The only times I've seen posts I didn't completely hate on the explore page were after spending hours tapping on "not interested" everytime I've been recommended pixelated Brazilian memes, pictures of horribly photoshopped women in bikinis that are too small, pics of people's manga collections (no idea why??? maybe because I posted a pic of my cat not too far from my own shelves of books just once insta detected that I wanted to see a bunch of horrible looking Tokyopop manga next to horrible shonen jump protagonists' figurines?) ugly ass pastel pink gamer girl setups, unfunny reposted tiktok videos, etc. Something's telling me I joined instagram a bit after it turned to shit since I hate stories and reels and that's literally all I see.

No.808
>>796>>804I think it's extremely embarrassing to pretend like it's some feminist empowering thing to read BL cause it implies you have to cater to the woke cult in order to actually like BL. That's the same shitty mindset that's pushing young girls into trooning out, cause the goalposts have been moved farther now and they think they can't just like BL cause it's hot when two guys kiss.
No.810
>>804While I agree that for a lot of women their enjoyment of BL comes with interesting psychological reasons beyond "me horny", in the end I have to agree more with
>>808. I really hate involving politics in fandom regardless of what it is, even if it seems harmless or helpful, it just invites more autism and then you get the current state of western fandom. The Japanese studies on fujoshi and their reasons for liking BL are out there for the people that want to read about it, but for everyone else they're not going to listen let alone care and it just sets up the image of being pretentious over porn to the vast majority of people.
What we as fujos, and non-fujo female otaku that want to enjoy whatever fiction they want in peace too, is do exactly what men do and ignore the people harassing us. Don't fight them, don't reason with them, don't even laugh at them, don't feel shame or guilt either. Give them no attention, ignore them. Because really, when was the last time you saw the fandom police go after say a male lolicon or yurifag? How often does it happen? Why do you think that is? Men don't give a fuck.
No.811
>>810You do realize that those "cringey evil feminists taking BL too seriously" are the ones defending the whole community from being classified as being on par with scrotes into lolicon and other legitimately degenerate garbage? If nobody was there to write these totally embarrassing walls of texts about BL and its connection to female empowerment we would be at a situation where nobody would be producing the content you enjoy because they'd be too afraid of being doxxed and ostracized for being branded as perverts, and the potential creators would have a bad opinion of BL as a genre to begin with.
It's great that you can say "I just want to see the hot guys, no politics please", but never forget that it's because of the people being autistic about being a fujo that you even get to consume the media. Unless of course you're fine with consuming only gorey barashit and shota trap porn created by men who are again invisible to all forms of cancelation. It's so easy to say "people shouldn't just care" when you're not the one being targeted by the mob and having your whole career as an artist jeopardized and nobody is defending you.
>pretentious over porn to the vast majority of people. BL isn't synonymous with R18 doujins, so many of the series focus on the relationships and their development with barely any porn included. I guess if you're here just for that you probably wouldn't give a shit about the stuff in between.
No.813
>>811You're doing quite a bit of strawmanning and putting words into peoples mouths. What those posts are fundamentally getting at is that it's like opening the flood gates and being unable to close them. This is what has happened with social justice in fandom. It's gotten to the point where no matter how logical and sound your talking point is, it's not enough anymore, and there's no point in engaging because of this. It's a lost cause.
No.814
>>810>>813Yeah I'm not very good with words but that's a good way to put it. If you've reached the point where you're trying to get all deep about why you're justified in liking a thing, you've already lost cause it implies there's some need to justify it in the first place and that the people who are against you would even give a fuck about your justification.
Most men don't write essays on how their enjoyment of pseudo-yuri slice of life anime is actually rooted in some socially progressive cause. Why should I have to write up or share some lengthy justification on why I like to watch anime boys kiss?
No.815
>>814>you've already lost cause it implies there's some need to justify it in the first placeWe don't live in a void, anon. The world evolved to the point that this is to be expected and as shitty as it is, one has to play by the rules to survive. For a lot of BL artists, both writers and illustrators, they have to be careful with how they maneuver, that's why so many of them quit BL altogether and move on to drawing shoujo and otome because it's more palatable to the general audience. If the fujos aren't explaining why people shouldn't cancel us for liking anime boys kissing, then that job is left for the people who hate us and they will decide on "they're disgusting perverted racist karens who literally kill gay people and hate women because they don't like badly written female characters". And that's what most people will run with because as history has taught us many times, if there's a chance for people to police female sexuality, they will do it.
>Most men don't write essays on how their enjoyment of pseudo-yuri slice of life anime is actually rooted in some socially progressive cause. They actually do, haven't you seen all the AGPs writing pervy articles about how anime girls kissing made them realize they're actually little lesbian girls and not ugly incel men? Or that how yuri porn is essential for them to "understand" women better, and whatever bullshit claims they come up with? And even that's beside the point, fetishization of lesbians and making them out to be virginal madonnas for men to conquer is a long-lasting, well-documented phenomenon. The "what if the genders were swapped" whataboutism has no place in this conversation, besides some rare Aiden skinwalkers women generally don't look at gay men and wish they were inviting her to their bed to be serviced because women just don't have the amount of sexual entitlement men do and men aren't expected to be sexually available to please women whenever they so request. BL has historically always been about women having a space for themselves and creating a community based on bonding with other women and exploring the boundaries and needs of their own personal sexuality without the interference of the male gaze. Even when you say "I just want to see hot guys it's not political" that's exactly what's happening. You're not saying "I want to see hot guys fucking a woman men are supposed to find attractive" or "I want to see hot guys that men can self insert into".
>Why should I have to write up or share some lengthy justification on why I like to watch anime boys kiss? You don't, nobody's here to force you. If you just want to be a tourist and consoom whatever other people create for you then do that, be my guest. Anyway this is your reminder to STOP BUYING SMART DEVICES THAT AREN’T NECESSARY.
Your soap does not need to connect to the internet. Your fridge does not need to be able to track the temperature in other countries. Your stove shouldn’t talk to you
This is not “technology bad” this is “these corporations are tracking you and your movements at ALL TIMES OF THE DAY.” They know your every move down to when you wash your hands after you take a shit. Alexa and Siri were the first introduction to this, and once people got used to them on their phones, they put them in their own little gadgets for your house.
And then they connected those gadgets to the lights. To the doors. To the window locks. To the thermostat.
You should be TERRIFIED at how many things are becoming “smart” these days. It’s yet another way for companies to sell to you, and, in a worst case scenario, it can be the thing that puts you in harms way.
Imagine you’re running a little late on your electric bill, and your fridge is a “smart” fridge. And because you’re running late on your payment they just….lock your fridge. Not shut the electricity off. Lock your fridge. Because fridges can now be locked remotely. You can no longer access your food until you pay them.
Cops want to know if you’ve been to any protests recently? They can track that handy dandy smart watch you decided to wear, even though you left your phone in the car. They can tell if you were home all day or lying.
Abusive partner or family member? They can shut off your support systems everywhere. Decide when you get to eat, if you do. Decide how hot or cold the house should be to make you suffer. Turn off the oven in the middle of you cooking dinner bc you upset them. Lock you in. Lock you out.
Your appliances, your LIFE, should not be surrounded by smart tech. Buy normal clocks. Get normal soap dispensers. Keep a pen and paper on the fridge to write down your grocery list. Set a manual timer for the oven. Wear a normal watch that only tells time. Get a step counter that clips to your belt.
Phone, laptop, TV. Those are the only things that make sense being “smart.” Everything else is one step closer to a dystopian novel that you don’t want to be in.
Your phone already tracks your every step. Don’t give every other thing in your life that ability.
And here’s the thing! It’s not only something that can cause you problems if you’re late to pay bills or have abusive partners/family or are doing something the government may not take kindly to!
No.1325
>>1324Let’s say, hypothetically, you do literally nothing. Well, turns out there’s a bug in the fridge software that sets the temperature to 60 degrees when it receives some unexpected input from your fridge app. Or the manufacturer pushes out an involuntary fridge update and now, while the update is downloading, sorry! your the fridge doesn’t open until the update is done.
And these are only the issues that affect you. Generally, Smart Device manufacturers do not think for even one second about the security of their devices. So, this means that hackers will see well known and publicized security holes that have been easily available for literal years but the manufacturer is simply too lazy to fix, use those holes to get into devices, and use those devices as bots to attack whoever they please (and, as a bonus, it look like it’s coming from your home!)
You’d think that this sounds like something out of a horror movie but this is the reality we live in RIGHT NOW. Many of the largest botnets (e.g. the Mirai botnet) in the world consist largely of compromised smart/IoT (internet of things) devices.
So uh just give it some thought before you buy the SmartChair3000 – it’s probably not as cool as it sounds :P

Even though she would go out of her way to harass gay men in Real life and get pissed when they did not wanna fuck her. she had horrible cystic acne from the hormones she was taking. Look I may be a degenerate but at least I keep that shit behind closed doors and I’m not delusional enough to actually think I’m a gay man.

There's a pop culture history podcast I'm a fan of that recently did an episode on Lupin the third and after realising the main cast is mostly male and it has had such a long history and many iterations my mind immediately went: "I bet fujos had a field day with this. I wonder what they ship." Goes to show how rotten my brain has become.

Sort of got into it, watched some of the movies and the newer series at the time, never got around watching the original like I planned.

I fucking hate people who absolutely need to headcanon characters with a mental illness.
Why are americans fucking obsessed with mental illness, it's not a quirky character trait.
"(character) likes to self harm and also has an eating disorder and wants to kill people :33333333 because of intrusive thoughts"
Shut the fuck up, go see a therapist
No.3446
>>3445Honestly annoying even with characters who are canonically mentally ill, especially for younger writers. A good example is Rorschach from Watchmen, you can see the difference in charactization between younger and older fics. Now people write him as a crying wristcutter
or trans and it's perplexing as to why you wouldn't just focus on the canonical symptoms.
I also get frustrated as someone who was diagnosed with Asperger's way back in mind school when I see people writer it as quirky people who flap their arms around, horribly infantilizing and frustrating. You could at least try to do a realistic portrayal of the things you're writing.

Although I feel like modern fic writers would be annoying and cringe about it, so maybe not.

No.3459
>>3456My phone holds most of my fujo insanity, actually. I have all of my collected fanart saved on there, and I've started writing fics, scenarios and headcanons in the notes app. Because, of the 8 fics (yes really) my ship has on Ao3, only one of them is really good. A few are passable, but I've seriously gone beyond the bottom of the barrel for content. So I'm doing my best to take matters into my own hands. At least they have some good deranged fanart, even if it is ridiculously hard to find when all you do is lurk and don't actually talk to anyone in fandom, and are therefore unable to gain access to private Twitter accounts. Hell world.
>Here's hoping we both one day find someone to scream with about our interest!Cheers to that! And I'm sorry for rambling so much, it's honestly just crazy to know that I'm not the only one in the world who has the specific struggle of being shy and having a degenerate rarepair.

I don't know what I'd do if anyone ever unlocked my phone, I save so much fic and have so much tabs open at all times! I also have a cottonmouth, but I hope to find maybe a few foreign artists that also make things for the ship even if I can't read their works too well. I have sorted albums on my phone for each of my fandoms, and I save fics to my notes app. I also download PDFs on my laptop. Folders for each fandom and ship. I never want to experience the pain of having one of my favorite works become lost media ever again, so I download every single one I like. I have a fair amount of deleted fics archived, actually, and I feel like a god for being the only one who's even aware of their existence. I've been called the "mother of all lurkers" on a site unrelated to fandom before, and I think that title suits me really well lol.
>I was even thinking of getting a binding machine to make physical versions of doujinshi and fanfics I likeThat sounds really cool! I love having physical copies of my favorite media, so I understand where you're coming from. Maybe I'll steal this idea from you, actually…

The ones that feel stupidest to get wrong are when they just ask for a ship name or one of the characters in the ship, but you don't know which shortening of the name they're using or the wording of the question is baffling.
Glad most I've seen in recent months only require the standard y/yes/801/rose.
>>3866I use 4chan daily and those sites are too much for me. At least with anons you can think "god get a load of this stupid asshole", and they'll usually be peddling some hilarious manosphere style conspiracies pointed at a Japanese cartoon. It feels personal and impossible to predict when other women insult me. Like being rejected from your own side because you liked the wrong thing. Anything you then say back is just more fuel for it and unlike busier boards you can't just post two boys kissing or a funny dog face, snap your fingers and walk out a champ. The thread's probably still there for the next five years to remind you that you fucked up somehow.
I don't agree with fc nona all the time, but I love you guys too because we really do talk things out that I would never be able to get into elsewhere. There's a lot less faking shit and much more said.
>>3869Thanks to discussion here I keep peering in at lc and those ban messages give me anxiety. So many for not fitting culture and yet the thread was chatting away with the post fine. I wouldn't know for the life of me what is good cringe or bad cringe on there. Here people describe what it is they're frustrated by and why, and it's real fandom culture that others can recognise and chime in on. It may only be text and a whole lotta meta but it feels productive to me.
The slower pace is good for it too. If I ever talked about these things somewhere more real time like a discord server I'll bet it'd get heated and nobody'd properly articulate what they mean. Replying once a night means taking time to think it over and proofread my points.

I grew up very used to feeling/being out-of-the-loop on irl matters, like politics, celebrities, tv shows, etc. (those things weren't and aren't still really interesting to me) hence why I spent most of my time online. But now I feel exactly like that but in online spaces haha. I remember using imageboards like 2ch (cause weeb) and 4chan's paranormal thread a lot but stopped using 4chan around 2007 because it was getting filled to the bream with redditors and degenerates. After that I pretty much only used Facebook for school and local stuff and Youtube for music, it wasn't until a decade later I decided to "immerse" in internet "culture" again because suddenly everyone was in it! Social media culture is a big turn off for me, I don't really get it so I don't have a personal twitter or instagram but it seems that it generates enough momentum to spread an insane amount of vitriol and just plain retardation around. I think the only reason I still use Facebook is that I chose NOT to have any of my friends garbage on my feed, pretty much just see local art events and stuff from the sewing groups I'm in. I'm pretty much blissfully ignorant about the current climate, I don't know if that's good or bad, it just feels very strange lmao. I'm in my late 20's but I feel 90 because I don't understand the black holes people have to navigate because of the internet and what it has done to the mainstream population. All in all I do hope girls and women like me can find spaces like this one, where they can share hobbies and interests without being misdiagnosed with the hottest mental illness of the week or just plainly mistreated. No.4004
>>3996>didn't the series end, then got revived recently? The manga is ongoing, the first anime (which aired from 2006-2008) ended abruptly at 103 episodes, and then some years later there was another anime adaptation called D.Gray-Man Hallow which adapted some manga arcs after the ending of the previous anime. Hallow also ended abruptly, somewhere in the mid-late 2010's, and the manga doesn't seem like it's going to end anytime soon.
Fun fact!! There was a situation in which Hoshino Katsura expressed anger on instagram at the anime staff for Hallow, due to how they drew a promotional art for the anime. Specifically, there was a poster which portrayed Kanda and Allen in a very ooc gay-ish manner (picrel) and she got pissed. If my memory doesn't fail me, Hoshino got asked by fans if her anger was because of the characters being pandered to the shippers, or if she was against shonen-ai in general, and she denied being against fan interpretations. She said that her disappointment was entirely because she believed that the anime staff was disrespecting her characters. She then expressed having no desire to allow another anime adaptation of her work.
>Allen is the seme btwEh, maybe in the old times. Kanda did a total 180 in terms of personality after the Alma Karma arc. Now he's the steadfast one, stubbornly chasing after Allen all the time to protect him due to his own personal debt to him for the Alma thing and to keep track of the 14th, while Allen seems to be falling more and more deeply into existential crises and personal drama.

im not surprised if these cons permanently go the all digital route, since its cheaper to run and more accessible. i wish i had a chance to attend yaoi con in its heyday; it must be something to be surrounded by that pure unadulterated fujo energy. but having to hang out with aidens, troons, antis and the likes in the flesh would be insufferable so im not holding my breath waiting for irl yaoi cons to return.

>>4042I really don't see the point of a digital con, it doesn't fun at all. That means there's no artist alley right? And there would only be online panels and maybe some movies and anime shown at some point but that's it? I used to go to my local con until it became too normie for my tastes (and then the pandemic happened) and at least cosplayers could meet each other and befriend other very naturally, I didn't befriend new people there but went there with my close fujo friends, would buy manga that are too niche to be at my usual book store (although it go bigger since then so I buy more BL there now), I always took my 3DS with me for streetpass and I discovered a very niche J-rock band there randomly because they did a concert and now I love them. I watched some of the panels too for recs such as the BL games panel and the dark BL manga panel but with this type of non-professional online con you'll sometimes just have a really bad quality stream. Most con goers were normies or zoomers so I guess that doesn't help, but the years before covid I'd easily meet several dozens of people. As for the con itself it was fun because I went with a friend but half of the artist alley was just a bunch of booths with shonentards selling badly traced prints of Naruto or Berserk panels. There are way less events as well, no more concerts, just a bunch of tiktokers signing… I don't even know. They were signing stuff I guess. I bought some cute stuff though, the other half of the artist alley was pretty good. I didn't buy an BL manga like planned in case it would snow because I would have ruined the books o my way home, and it did snow the entire day but that's not an issue I can buy that stuff in my usual bookstore.
This is making me a bit sad. But at the same time it will motivate me to go back to Japan again next year so I can go to the next comiket even if August's plane tickets are expensive. After going to a few event cafes this summer I just know it'll be way more fun than my local con and Japan Expo.

It works but there's a bit of plastic I had to fix with tap and it looks awful. Then I moved to another country, covid happened just a few weeks later and I stopped taking it with me outside for years until yesterday. I was reading some het erotic manga with a silly title/premise, started as a joke but got fairly into it at some point, but as I rushed through the chapters I started to get really annoyed with the sex scenes because even though the title had the word XL penis in it, 80% of the manga was shots of the girl's ass, tits, and squirting labia bulge. Like nipple sucking constantly, whenever she went to do something it would suddenly change angle to make her ass fill the panel, the guy would remain clothed all the time while her shirt would be pulled up to slap her tits in constant view. Some chapters it was just the girl with a dildo and some thought bubbles about how it feels harder than a real dick and it's not the same as her beloved. It was definitely labelled a josei on the site, and the designs and story was definitely women's erotica. But I've never been so frustrated by a lack of dick in my life.
Seriously if you make the premise "this dude has a massive schlong and even goes to conventions of massive schlong havers to acquire suitably sized condoms for it, also one of the younger guys there tries to wager his schlong is the bigger schlong", please for the love of god focus on the issue of having a massive schlong and actually let the dudes compare schlongs. Every chance they had they pussy blocked me from just seeing two lightsabers in the same panel. Come the fuck on, where's your Big Dick Problems hashtag relatable moments? I feel like people really exaggerate the parallels between Omegaverse and heterosexual relationships. Of course, there are works that do make a parallel, like Asada Nemui, but the vast majority are simply melodrama for the sake of melodrama.
People always bring up mpreg as the big flag, but for the majority of omega works it's usually either hand waved away or just not there to begin with while things like nesting, biting, drug use, and at times stuff like life spans are never brought up.
If anything, I'd say omegaverse is furry adjacent. Hear me out, it's not like bl hadn't had it animal x trend. Plus many authors have gone on to write literal furry, the whole thing started because of animals to begin with.
Anyway, I just think the whole "mpreg = female insert so all omegas are women" to ve really annoying.
No.4704
>>4702Ugh my condolences anon. Futa is just nasty.
I don't mind regular genderbends myself since they can be pretty cute but I really hate it when the artist only genderbends one half of the couple and turns them straight for some reason.
No.4705
>>4703As someone with an animal traits fetish who's been spouting shit about Animal X, Sex Pistols, and even Sentinel's spirit guides fanon nonsense, yeah. Omegaverse drama is far more in line with "who has the right to marry who" class wars and "who is putting who in danger because they'll turn into a horny monster (potentially)" protection/bureaucracy stuff. It doesn't have to be about mpreg, but breeding is a natural conclusion for the "instinctual" behavior elements. There's power imbalance, sex pollen style pheromone nonsense, predator/prey, rutting, and general physical danger, etc. etc. I don't think real men have shit on the fantasy these represent, and it'd take some roleplay discussion for spontaneous growling and biting to not be weird. If you're going to argue the world building in omegaverse series is equivalent to het couples irl then I implore you to stop and watch Disney's Zootopia and decide if you want to paint that entire thing in gender politics too, because that's how silly it sounds sometimes.
Sure, some areas of omegaverse fiction are pure fluff, all about finding the right one and everyone rooting for the MC to meet and match up with someone safe and good for them before raising a family together. Supposedly gay romance novelists on Kindle/Kobo are writing a ton of these as escapist fantasies. Nice things are nice, and a good partner and peaceful family life are really mundane goals that don't belong to women or heterosexuals alone. Instead of getting upset that it's girly to raise a child or have one character be more delicate than the other, why not let your monkey brain enjoy itself. Some people are going to self insert, some people aren't, why does that matter? I always get the impression it's an accusation meant to belittle women's fiction by saying "it's just women!" because Real DudesTM would be superior.
Remember how people criticized Free! because "a real man wouldn't kick a bin in frustration, that was like a girl"? What the fuck even does that mean? People kick shit all the time. It's always some way to say "I'm not like them" or to the point: "they're worse than me".
"Omegaverse is worse than what I like because female." Just say it's not your kinks or the plots are repetitive as fuck. That's all you need.
Sorry I turned this into a vent but there's been a lot of abo talk around me lately and I can't say shit because of a couple girls who won't shut up with really dire taste in it, and it makes all the anti-abo people act smug.
No.4707
>>4703Believe it or not, not all A/B/O actually has mpreg. It's also hard not to see it as het lite when omegas have vaginas or tits a lot of the time now but that's mostly on ao3 from what I know.
Anyway, the first main reason omegaverse feels like BL het edition is because there's no taboo to M/M relationships. Alphas and omegas are expected to get together, if there's mpreg they can have babies so there isn't even a chance of being criticized for choosing a partner who you can't reproduce with like IRL. This is why the few rare times I've read omegaverse, I'm only ever interested in alpha/alpha, omega/omega, or sometimes beta/either - I'm more interested in the relationships which are outside the norm, which would basically be the A/B/O universe's real equivalent to gay relationships.
The second reason is all the obvious parallels of omegas to women with 'omega rights' shit sometimes being part of the plot. I get that making men deal with the same sexism as women is some people's kink but it's negative interest for me.
No.4708
>>4705>There's power imbalance, sex pollen style pheromone nonsense, predator/prey, rutting, and general physical danger, etc. etc. This is why I fuck with it, it's a crossroads of fun tropes. Before omegaverse you'd only get these if somebody was a werewolf or mixed with some other creature type that could be twisted into being horny to the point of dub/noncon.
>>4707>It's also hard not to see it as het lite when omegas have vaginas or tits a lot of the time now but that's mostly on ao3 from what I know. 99% of this is het-in-all-but-name and it drives me insane that it's trending in nearly every fandom I browse. Don't get me wrong, you can post about important shit all you want but I couldn't imagine posting a video of someone's head getting blow off and then posting a pic of solid snake with his ass out. >>4706I'll definitely pick the titles you posted over omegaverse because animal boys appeal to me so much more, but I guess I'm less bothered by pregnancy because all the series I've tried either had it as the conclusive footnote to a marriage or never actually had pregnancy happen. That's with the exception of Animal X, which had so much stupid shit going on that the MC having a daughter and being transported back and forth in an ongoing dinosaur breeding war was whatever. I think I've separated the concept of regular pregnancy from mpreg enough in my mind, but if a melodrama really did pull a pregnancy in the middle and go through with it I'd fall off because it's not what I'm reading for. The mpreg I've enjoyed are fluff fics where one partner gets spoilt rotten and it exists in some time-space pocket where both the conception and the childbirth are never shown, so it's more like an excuse for doting partner tropes. There's no scares or drama to it there.
>>4707I'm phenomenally lucky that every time I say "I'm okay with this controversial genre/trope" it turns out there's some fucked alternate strain that I've managed to bypass this entire time. The omegaverse I'm used to is just dudes and the point is they're just dudes with extra functions.
Taboo isn't what I'm reading BL for so I didn't think about it like that. Personally I've liked omegaverse with "irregular" pairs because I like authors doing little backflips to present unexpected events. Everyone expects the big alpha boss to pair up with one of the hot omega but he's secretly sweet for this average beta due to personal and frankly very romantic circumstances? Yes please.
I've not connected any omega rights talk with real life activism, because in the few omegaverse I've read where it comes up the reason for it is they literally kidnap omega in vans, put them under government surveillance, lock them up in facilities, monitor their drug intakes, sell them to wealthy sponsors with massive estates, and all that to prevent random fuckhungry beefcakes from tearing each other apart over them. I'd like something with harder sf than what I've seen, but the protection programs scratch a little itch for me and I don't think they're any kind of realistic.

A number were just my usual shounen jump filters I use on /a/, but about 9 of them were for combinations of shota and furry. I'm not a fan of the change in moderation lately where furry art is allowed outside of /trash/ if you call it "kemono", but there were
six threads for "Poppy's Playtime". A bunch of the images in the thread I opened were photos of a store display that included female characters (threads for Japanese series have had bans for photos of male character merch in the past), but the characters they'd made the thread for were
just animals. And naturally after the photos there were a bunch of fetish pics where the off model body types ranged from generic furry teenagers in shorts (to imply they have genitals, of course) to tentacle bondage with children even the author of MiA would consider too young. Babyfur art styles shouldn't be just sitting around on the cute anime boy board.
I don't think I'd be so pissed off if it were an Asian franchise or at least Asian art, or maybe even if it were adult furries with canon personalities? It just seems so extremely low standard that they saw a generic cartoon dog and went "I need a comic about that getting aroused". I have less respect for them than the FNAF kiddies.
I know /cm/ has been mostly unsalvageable for nearly two decades now, but every time I look at it there's something new to make me question how it got there. I dunno if the people involved in that conversation would even see this but I don't wanna derail the rarepair thread so I want to mention here that I use the word Femboy instead of Trap cause I feel like the former is a more accurate description for the type of characters I'm thinking of. The word trap implies that the character is deliberately trying to make people think he's a girl and that would only apply to specific cases like BotW Gerudo outfit Link or Hibari-kun who went to school as a girl. With characters like Andromeda Shun and Lio Fotia you just have a cute boy who is openly a boy but has soft and feminine features. I guess simply put: I think every trap is a femboy but not every femboy is a trap. It has nothing to do with troon feelings or any other baggage attached to the terms.
No.4968
>>4967I'm trying to remember any other terms that could have been used for it. The cute boy has always been a regular trope and it's true there was a separation for traps since forever but I can only think of "twinks" as opposed to baras
No.4969
>>4968I just call them pretty boys/bishonen tbh.
No.4972
>>4967I just think the term trap is outdated. It used to be about
users tricking each other by posting boys in skirts during image dumps, when nobody had reverse image search and it was much more difficult to track down the source of VN or ecchi characters. In the media they came from it wasn't always a secret from other characters that they were male, sometimes it's heavily emphasized that it's a boy and that's the point.
Very few people are getting caught out these days, or the experience is so short it's hardly worth denoting. If anything more and more people are deliberately seeking crossdressing boys while using a term that doesn't apply any more. Think about it, if you were looking for a fic where a guy dresses as a girl to fool someone, would you more likely be looking for a trap tag or a catfishing tag? If you're browsing doujinshi for them are you not just looking at otokonoko or femboy tags? There's better terms to narrow down what people want.
>>4968I think the JP equivalent of twink would be ikemen. 3D ikemen aren't as skinny as 2D designs, but they're all supposed to have a soft, youthful masculinity. What you're calling "bara" is probably gachimuchi (chubby muscular). Bishounen would be closer to what a crossdresser out of dresses should be, but they're not as popular these days. Art styles themselves have moved to ikemen.
No.4973
>>4972>It used to be about users tricking each other by posting boys in skirts during image dumpsOh, that's interesting. I hadn't heard of that particular context before but that makes sense.
No.4976
>>4972I'm glad there are other grandmas around. Trap is western in origin and not particularly useful for tags, but I personally still use it over crossdresser or femboy (and I am usually only ever talking about this shit with -chan adjacent people who know what I mean). To me the tags have connotations I would not seek: crossdresser yields more fetish-y stuff and femboy has been overtaken by 3DPD. Otokonoko is more reliable for 2d girls(male), although it's still not a guarantee.
Man now I'm caught up on how there really isn't a term that will get you what a fujo would prefer out of this sort of character. Bishonen is way too broad.
No.4978
>>4972When I think about ikemen it's more about "cool, handsome". Think about a regular harem, while they're all bishounen (pretty boys) the main lead would be the proper bishounen (gentle), and the ikemen the second lead (arrogant)
Then there's the twins, the shotabait, megane, tsundere…why isn't there a word for the feminine one? Otokonoko is for true trannies like Hourou Musuko to me
Think about that one shy guy with bob hair, or the one with long hair in a ponytail that gets confused for a girl, or the small one with the shaggy haircut. Like Mikorin from Gekkan Shojo omg, isn't there a way to describe him?
Is it because uke=submissive=woman so many behaviours just fall under "omg such an uke" and the brain doesn't have a need to register a separate word for feminine boys aesthetics
No.4979

>I'd be curious to hear what you think of JJKI really liked the anime and I'm glad I only watched it recently so I could watch both seasons and the movie without interruption. Because the first season is good but nothing amazing imo. It's a well made anime but I think it was too standard and cliche in the beginning, the writing gets better later, I got way more invested during the arc where Gojo and Geto are teenagers because it stops feeling like a long introduction and feels like an actual story. I ordered the manga in Japanese so I can practice a little, I forgot a lot of words after I stopped studying Japanese so maybe it will help me learn more during my free time. But that means I'll read it slowly. I heard that the official English translation of the manga kinda sucks, and I've also seen some French people on twitter complaining about the anime translation, which was most likely because of how subtitles can't exceed a specific number of letters at a time, but I have no clue how the French translation is for the manga. Buying volumes in Japanese was actually way cheaper than getting them in French, shipping costs and taxes included anyway. I'll report back on whatever happens after the Shibuya arc later.

Did the definition of "headcanon" change recently? In the past week I suddenly see people using it to refer to full on shipping fanworks and redesigns, and fan stories that never happened in canon at all. I thought people were doing it to insult the intelligence of fujoshi, you know the usual "you're delusional and can't tell reality from your own crazy thoughts", but then I saw someone use it to mean fan comics and fics they read.
I always remember it meaning a semi-plausible theory about details and events that you believe could be true, but nothing especially major. Like "I headcanon that x likes strawberry crepes, because he's surprisingly girly and eats fruit in the show" or "x must have seen y on the way home a few times before because they live nearby." But not something like "x and y who fought with each other are actually married and are buying a house together." That's a few steps too far unless you're joking about considering it canon. Headcanons were something you could convince other people are true and then use to inform your fics or whatever, but not the fics themselves. There's a different category when you depart that much?
No.5004
>>5002I've noticed this too, yeah. It's definitely more misused than not these days, which is very annoying. As you said, it went from ideas that could plausibly integrate into canon/do not require shifting of canon to work to literally just whatever personal interpretation someone has in their head for the media they're into at the moment. Silly stuff like "Oh, I hc [Character] as bald, actually!" when the character in question has a head full of hair. Not how that works, dude.
No.5007
>>5002>>5004Apparently the Japanese equivalent of headcanon translates to "delusion" and I think Western fandom would greatly benefit from using that instead. They're allowed to do whatever, and yes we do live in capitalistic times, but the thought of something being written not out of a genuine desire to make it, but just to hit word counts and make money is kinda sad and makes me feel like a fool to read it. I'd rather read a 10x shittier fic where it's obvious the author just WANTED to make it. Also I hate the commercialization of fanfic, everything else is already for sale, can we not spare this? 100 words = $1 …must we do this…

>>5062I think the buyer is sadder than the author. There was what was obviously a paid fic by a (good!) author I recognized in one of my deader ship tags and I skimmed it because hey more food and god it might as well have been a Mad Lib. I can't completely blame the author because I've followed them forever and they have never alluded to playing the game the ship is from (and the stuff they write for that they DO play/read/watch is consistently good), but it still had me going like "damn guys, respect yourselves".
But yeah I am repulsed by fic comms too. If I had the cash to throw at them I simply would not be able to find "writer who is good enough to be paid and understands why the ship is great" because if they were into the media+ship enough to capture the magic of it in the prose they would already be writing for the ship, you know? That being said I'm mad jealous of fanartists because they can make decent fluff money off of comms and it's MUCH harder to draw a completely soulless piece of ship art.

>>5062Interesting, I see it as more someone being paid to do something they love. But I mostly see fandom commissions where the author is pre-established in that fandom and would write fics either way. But I agree that fanworks should be written out of love.
No.5065
>>5062>>5063I think we should encourage tip jars like kofi before commissions. People have always taken suggestions on donations, and wanting to repay someone's kindness is fine motivation to write or draw. It dodges being payment for specific infringements too.
Problem with that is people are used to reading for free. It'd be a struggle to encourage people to support fic writers they cherish to any significant degree. The commission ads I see are always things like "I need to cover vet/medical bills" or "I'm behind on rent please help". Those aren't scenarios you can patch up with a handful of $2 tips.
Fanfic simply isn't something you can monetize safely. If I ever got off my ass and wrote consistently, I'd probably set up a donation platform and put original writing behind a cheap paywall. If people do like my ideas and style then they can get a legally sound bonus for supporting me. But fics? I am writing whatever garbled self indulgent stuff I think of and it isn't worth getting in trouble for. Writing to order needs so much leeway to work and without that is it even me any more.
No.5067
>>5063>>5064Yeah, the way I see it if the author is invested in a certain fandom anyway I don't think commissioning a fic is any different from commissioning art. You could pay the writer to write a situation for a ship that they're invested in but haven't done before or maybe an OC/NPC ship fic where you just need to explain the characterisation of your OC and ideally you can brainstorm together in the WIP phase. Of course if the writer isn't familiar with the source material I do agree that the end product wouldn't feel right.

>cute girl design
>it's a he/him
Feels like they're popping out a lot in mangas and they're not even trying for the trap/feminine male appeal, they just can't fathom a girl having personality so they end up using he. Such a turn off on every angle

Really asking myself the question lately on whether I would give a shit if some internet friends of mine would shun me if they found out I've gotten into a problematic age gap ship. I think it'd make me sad on some level if it was someone I've gotten along with for years but at the same time over the last couple of years I've been prioritising my own happiness over being respectable in others' eyes so I think I'd get over it pretty soon.

>>5084Most people still look at pornographic stuff in a relationship but I completely understand the "ick" you got about his 3DPD consumption habit. I've been dating another weeb for years now and know the stuff he looks at is 2D. We go to 18+ booths together at cons, it's comfy.
I think this is a hurdle you can overcome if you present it as "there is no way to know if real porn is ever consensual" which is honestly what kills it for me. Cool down before you make any decision. I'd definitely blow a gasket if I found out my boyfriend had swapped to 3DPD, but from my neutral mind in the present I can say I would not want to break up with him without a proper swing at the problem first.

>>5084I feel like maybe there wasn't good communication, I'd also blow a fuse if my partner said I was being cute when I was legitimately angry with them. Did he know ahead of time that you weren't comfortable with it? If so, I think this would be a dealbreaker for me. If this is something you can't get over, it's best to cut your losses now. But if you want to make things work, I think you'll have to have a serious talk with him about boundaries. I don't know how hard it is to find moids who aren't interested in 3DPD porn (I've only ever been with weeby women so it hasn't been a problem), but I think it would be sad for you to give up on love altogether because of this.

I don't know if this is a end the relationship thing unless he has a consistent habit of betraying you in other ways and this is a straw that broke the camels back scenario. You two should have a convo when exams are done and you've both cooled off.

>>5084Did you ever even tell him you'd stopped looking at porn? Honestly that's a weird thing to do just because you're in a relationship unless you knew you had problems. I don't get 3D porn so I'd find it gross regardless, but I don't think he could have expected that he had to stop just because he was in a relationship.
The cute shit is annoying when you're mad, but maybe he meant your abstaining? I could understand that being cute. I'd say give him a day of silent treatment if you're feeling pissy, it's childish but it's a good way to let off steam without destroying all your bridges, and if your relationship matters it'll invite him to talk to you properly.
If BL is your hobby then you shouldn't abandon it just to be with someone. Even in a relationship you should have "You Time" to enjoy what you want in privacy, and as long as it's nothing dodgy he should have his (it's a trade off and you don't have to be involved in whatever very dude shit he's into). You'll have interests you share and interests you keep separate, that's how people are and if you ever date someone who disagrees with that, run.

dungeon menshi looks so fucking boring, and the boys even more boring. First the fandom made Laios this ToTaL FrEaK when in reality he just kind of likes to eat? Then they turned him into some autism icon to the point every single one of his actions gets painted as autism-coded to the point it's annoying. Maybe it's the art style too but i just can't get myself into this series because everyone and everything looks so fucking lifelesss. Maybe it's the art style. not even the dark skinned one or the one-eyed twink tickle my brain for interest

>>5118Oh thats too bad I LOVE the manga and think it's super cozy. Fictional non-fiction is a favorite of mine and I love how dryly the field guide portions and recipes are handled.
Maybe it doesn't translate well to the screen? I'm waiting till it's done airing to check it out but I'm so glad it's by Trigger since their stuff always has a lot of energy so I'm optimistic I'll like it.

>>5118>First the fandom made Laios this ToTaL FrEaK when in reality he just kind of likes to eat?Tbf, Laios does have some issues but if I had to think of a few criticisms for the manga, it'd be that it's more or less quiet until right near the end where it's sort of explained in a couple of chapters.
Then again, I think the author didn't want it to come off as edgy or menhera and so was walking a fine line, maybe.
The autism coding representation is pretty fucking obnoxious though, yeah. Frankly, I can't recall Laios getting called autistic as a joke in the chapter dump threads, been a while since those though.

>>5118I loved the manga but seeing fandom do fandom stuff to it because of the anime is really weird to me. It just does NOT give me those kind of brainworms and I honestly find any ship art beyond Falin and Marcille and the two you mentioned being kinda fruity hard to understand. It's a lot like Chainsaw Man and its anime where I feel like I read something completely different than what the anime fandom watched.
The insisting upon autism is really annoying too and I feel blessed I don't have the urge to read DM fanfic.

>>5119I've read one volume of the manga years ago and now I'm watching the anime and I think trigger did fine. I've been having a great time with it. I'm avoiding the fandom like the plague, though, cause I can already tell it'd be full of those types of people who bitch about fujos not shipping the main yuri ship hard enough.

I had Dungeon Meshi on my to-read list for years because it always sounded and looked like my type of fantasy. I only read a few volumes in that time, but the anime has been a lot of fun (Chilchuck's voice threw me for a loop though, I imagined something more mature). There's a physicality to the characters that's nice to watch when they interact, and I love revisiting fantasy tropes like stubborn dwarves getting on with shit and shunning magic no matter what they're told.
The fandom is one of those sprawling beasts you don't want to poke with a long stick. I've been getting my kicks out of fanart here and there, but it's just as easy to find shit that doesn't work for me. Personally, when I first read the manga, Laios had this kind of empty stare when he wanted something and there was some line like "every day he gets less human", and I'm sorry but that stuff makes me horny. Can't explain away a fetish.
>>5122Yeah I'm usually first to say "no we're just having fun, not saying it's canon" about fujo ship saturation in a fandom, but the yuri shippers in DunMesh fandom seem to reaally really push that it's canon and you have to acknowledge it. I'm sure I'm biased as hell to see it that way, but it feels like they're more serious than fujo shippers.
>>5116A friend and I did it for shits and giggles. We quickly found that every story it produced had the exact same plot and was more a two paragraph movie blurb than actual prose. Trying to write prose into it would start promising then turn the same way.

>>5129>Trying to write prose into it would start promising then turn the same way.LLMs tend to get off-topic the longer they go on, maybe that's why it starts okay before falling back to the same patterns. Have you tried a more collaborative approach? Like telling it you will be taking turns writing each paragraph. Maybe it will produce something better if it only has to write every other paragraph with user input in-between.
