how the fuck do people ship genshin, enstars or any other gacha characters? they're barely characters, just money generating, 1-dimensional pieces of cardboard. i've never been able to get attached to any.

could never get attached to any, either. some of them have extremely cute designs though. to quote another anon on here, some characters just look like they were synthesized in a lab for back breaking anal

Genshin is the only gachashit that has ever gotten its hooks in me so I'll effortpost a little:

The best analogy I can give you is that Genshin is like Homestuck (or any ensemble cast of your choosing, like MHA or FFXIV) where there is a flavor for everybody and the cast is deep enough to get a read on their character but shallow enough to project onto/fill in the blanks/use as a doll to kiss other dolls.

Every playable character comes with a decent amount of background information (https://genshin-impact.fandom.com/wiki/Diluc/Lore) and will occasionally reappear in limited time events with other characters, which is almost always connected to a surge in ship content. To get attached to a character requires more "homework" than just playing the game and I think that's where a lot of people get confused if they just try it out for a few hours after wondering why it's so popular.

some of the shit I ship is so fucking absurd that even my most unhinged fujo acquaintances have doubted my sincerity. so it's honestly a bit funny to see people so mind-boggled over why people ship extremely attractive bishies, boring and poorly written as they may be

 No.2365

At least some of the Genshin guys are hot. What I don't get is how anyone is genuinely invested in the bland as fuck poorly designed waifus.

>big, bright eyes painted with coquettish red eyeliner
>slim, delicate face and figure
>can sing and dance
>canonically beautiful
>canonically high pain tolerance
>bratty, tsundere attitude but previously soft-spoken, obedient, and polite
>traumatic backstory of being used and abused by older men

Anon… how can I possibly suppress my desire to see him get fucked by literally every male character? Their lab is too good.

picrel's one i'm quite fond of. yeah

I did stuff like this as a child, too. Middle school — I remember making my erasers kiss in the middle of class. Teachers either didn't see or didn't care. I was known for being a fidgety kid, so I don't think anyone paid it much mind. But I always wondered and worried if anyone could tell what I was doing, daydreaming and playing out an improvised love story with two cheap, lead-covered erasers.

When I was little I used to also ship object - I paired my mom's flowers and plants and made them imaginary weddings, I even moved them close to each other.
And when we were learning about the periods of literature I made every period a persona and imagined dramas with them that involved cheating haha.

Gacha characters are written in a way that makes it possible to project whatever you want onto them. Just give them one or two quirks and that's enough for most people. Being basic is actually an advantage for those fans who like to headcanon. Shallow? Yes. But desired by the masses.

 No.13435

>>13427
They're why weeb fandoms have sucked now because even in terms of shallow characters, gacha characters are really REALLY shallow and boring. It's only popular because no one has an attention span anymore and gachas are always updating, but the characters and ships from them are treated like fads rather than anything memorable. I'm tired of fujos acting like a five second cameo in a gooner game like Hoyo shit is five course meal because no one wants to get into anything else because fandoms don't build up on anything but the popular current flavor of the month.

Eh, I disagree. There are good characters trapped in shitty games (GBF, FGO) and they definitely have more than just "one trope". There's a reason why Mihoyo copied the same character path from Sandalphon with Scaramouche, even pissing off the same type of people too to this day.
But it's entirely a Mihoyo game problem that their characters are mosly undeveloped aside from whatever they decide to focus on at a time. I don't know anything about Phainon HSR but I know for sure he's the supposed focus of their last story patch, his homobait buttbudy likely has no character though. And it's like that with almost every ship I've seen cycle through from Hoyo in the past several years.

Why are you talking about these characters like you know shit if you haven't played the game and are just guessing? I don't disagree with overall gacha character shallowness criticism but you gotta be at least a little familiar with something before commenting on it.

nta. have actually played. They're right. Dan Heng and Blade are the most fleshed out male characters in that entire game. I'd say around Belebog is where the story just turned into word vomit with no depth. Not to say it wasn't always like that, but I could see the decline after Bronya's conclusion. Sunday got his own spotlights, but not nearly as much heart as making Dani and Blades actual enemies.

That's literally the release of the game, did you mean penacony maybe? Your post sounds like you didn't actually play much.
Agreed on blade and dan heng but of course hoyo has no balls to keep their conflict going or resolve it in any meaningful way.

 No.13443

>>13442
I started mid-Penacony actually. I was not there for the game's release. And I've played through everything. Space Amazon Warehouse is when you can really feel everyone being written like water with a different slice of fruit on the side. In the end, the difference in taste is barely noticible.

Also different anon. HSR is literally kiddie level writing. I haven’t played other hoyo games but I can’t imagine they are better.

I genuinely tried to like the world and I did when I started. But then I think I got to Hook's story and wasn't able to pay attention as much.

How that game produces any kind of mature fan content, I don't know. For western series, you know that from the producers themselves, there is something fucked up going on. It's intended to be interpreted beyond childish storytelling. How anyone played through pink haired ninja who's name I cannot begin to recall's Banananana side quest, or Ashveil's monkey crew, and be emotional in any capacity- I cannot relate. His character bio is hilarious because it's about death and immortality while suffering loss, but from the POV of those crackhead monkeys.

Amophorous is probably one of the best highlights of fan potential. But Mydei is still tethered to toddler level characterization and despite his animations, is as kiddy friendly as a teletubby. Featuring Anaxia as the Green one

I thought he and Phainon would be the main fujo ship push because they're supposed to be KevinSu expies (maybe not so much directly betweeen Anaxa and Su). Sad he got shafted for a hetship

Mihoyo fans have the media literacy of toddlers and the tolerance for pairings that aren't safe and normal comparable to IBS.

If two characters aren't literally the same age (visibly) with nearly the exact same height, they lose it. I know, it's stupid for hsr because the vast majority of the cast are chinese cultivators when it comes to aging. But people will put 10 disclaimers on something as NOT A SHIP when it's just Mydei and Cipher existing in the same space.
