That's a funny coincidence, just the other day I mentioned on another site that I was thinking of getting into gundam and over there was also the consensus that I should just watch it in production order. I've got some other stuff on my backlog right now but when I'm done with that I'll go ahead and download a batch of the first series.

Also, is the Origins OVA any good?

Currently running through AO3 and desperately hunting for doujinshi, the only thing I can really find is some fangirl uploading old doujinshi covers from the 80's, so enjoy vintage Charma I guess.
No.2760
Welp, I'm in rarepair hell.
Charmuro wasn't working out and Charma was clearly OP.
Finished the full series. …The ending, damn, I can see why Charma was the flagship for so many years. Char going "I'm done with this thing" –→ "Actually no, one last thing for my friend"… Epic.
Anyway, Amuro breaking apart was very cute and felt real. Since Bright is equally pretty young, even if he's more experienced than Amuro, it would be fun to see the two bond and grapple with their feelings, Bright wanting to ease the pain of his crew but not being sure how, given his lack of experience, and Amuro looking to him for guidance on beating the shell shock, intensifying the guilt on Bright's end.
This might be the first time I've shipped something that isn't telegraphed super hard in the series, just because the characters seem like a good fit that would have a cute love story.
No.2762
>>2761Went to see if I had saved any stray AmuBrights over the years but it is extremely rare now that you mention it. Even if he has slight presence in Zeta shipping he's often the token hetero, especially because he isn't married to just some random chick off-screen.
>Char going "I'm done with this thing" –→ "Actually no, one last thing for my friend"… EpicIt's very nice if you believe *Char was most likely intended to suicide in the final episode until the movie trilogy noped and Char having only the bitter memory of Garma* contrasts with Amuro returning to the whole White Base crew with the encouragement of Space Lalah to boot.

>>2762Awwww, thank you nona! This is so cute, Amuro's youthful enthusiasm still shining through, despite Bright's weariness, love the idea of Amuro dragging him to age appropriate venues like arcades and conserts during the time they spent on that one base where Amuro encounters Char and Lalah.
>>2762>>Char suicideAhh you're right, those vibes were very much there! The contrast is super nice. Currently reading through Char's Daily life, and it's really, really beyond measure sweet to see the boys just getting along and doing dumb stuff together.
Also on an unrelated note, do people prefer gay relationships to be fine in Gundam world or not? Is there any canon on this? I'm curious since I recently came across some dj with gayangst back in the day for another series where I didn't expect it would be a thing, and it got me thinking.
No.2767
I'm the type of person who takes forever to get into a series unless I have a push and while watching another movie I noticed there's an upcoming Gundam Seed movie that's apparently a sequel. It'll reach theatres here on june 22nd so I'm considering jumping into Gundam with Seed because I have a push and a time limit motivating me to watch it. Does anyone here have thoughts on this iteration? I'm pretty curious.

Also Enokido mentioned that his favorite relationship is between Challia and his male underling, both him and Tsurumaki saying to people "please look forward their complicated relationship during the broadcast"
No.3683
Haven't watched GQuuuuuuX since it's not airing here but I am looking forward to it. I rarely care about designs before I see the characters act but I already think that Challia is hot. And Char is hot anyway. And most others are fancy twinks and cool girls which is nice. I generally live the artstyle.
Hell I even like the chubby-face dude, whoever that is (Dren?). The designs make me feel like it's a series targeting fujos. The men are way too pretty and varied to be for self-inserters.

Nothing concerning at all. Its best to get what you want even if you don't agree with someone's politics. A lot of Japanese artists I follow aren't the kindest, but their Challia x Char art is good, so I just save it.

>>3750On her social media account, you can find her under RetroAnimeChris on tumblr I think.
No judgement against people who get what they want and get out, I wish I could do that. Unfortunately, I have trauma associated with trans people, the 'begone TERF' attitude, and exclusion based on political witch-hunting, so it's hard for me to enjoy something when I know that the producer is a bully.
No.3756
>>3755Like I previously stated, I steered clear of her website due to her social media, because I wasn't sure if 'DIE TERF' stuff would pop out at me from her webpage, due to her being open about her hate on her social media. Now that I know that it won't, I've gone to her website and got my doujinshi saved.
And no, it's not the same. Those people are openly proclaiming that they won't do it because shitting on JKR is currently fashionable. They'll also often judge you for not joining in on the hate, or for openly enjoying something they hate.
I don't judge people for enjoying stuff from 'DIE TERF' people. I think it's good that people have thick skin and can take what they can get. I wish I could enjoy those things, too. But I don't, due to traumatic experiences that I don't want to recount here. It's a lot more than just trans, but trans has become a huge part of it.
Can we go back to posting Charma? I want to post Charma. Please.
No.3760
>>3757Hard to pick, but I think my absolute most favourite is Char's Daily Life. Garma being an actual spoiled brat feels all the more poignant, since Char keeps hanging out with him, despite his OG incarnation claiming that to be a cause of his death.
I like the idea of Char getting parts of his memory back, and growing protective of Garma, then dealing with the angst of remembering why.
I also like Gihren's Greed Garma, although I wish the game had done more with Char. Garma still wanting to be friends with Char, even after being betrayed, is sweet as heck. I want them to rule together.
>>3758What chapter? I'm interested! I keep hearing fun things about Gundam-san, but I recall not really getting it the first few chapters and dropping it.

Yeah Gundam-san is a mixed bag when the jokes are "hehe Amuro horny" but I did like how it feels more like a gag manga than the average Gundam reference manga, especially in the arcs.

>>3991He's a major character so you will be well fed. He's mostly shipped with Amuro tho.
I would say to start with 0079, the first series. If you don't have time there's the movie versions but the og anime has more character moments. If you want more Char and also pre One Year War, watch Origin, he's practically the mc in that one.
From there, you should watch Zeta and then ZZ afterwards. He has a starring role in the first one but he's not present in the second one, so you might be disappointed. But after that there's Char's Counterattack and if you want you can dive into the side content or AUs.
There's also a lesser known SoL/isekai manga starring him called Char's Daily Life but the characterizations are more ooc. I would recommend reading the spinoff where Haman is an office lady but you would mostly enjoy it if you are already deep into the UC canon.
No.3995
>>3991like other anons said, 0079, Zeta and CCA are the main canon Char primers, then he shows up in random spinoffs here and there like the comedy ones.
People usually rec the movies for 0079 but I had fun watching the series tbh. My favorite arc is the ending arc (when they go to space and things get weird)
Speaking of charmuro here's a recent Yas drawing for Sunrise World Sendai lol.
No.4000
>>3992>>3994>>3995Thank you very much, anons! I've started 0079 and am about 5 episodes in. It's strange - I actually like the dubs for this. I admit, before I saw episode 2, I was captivated by Chaalia Bull and the Yuri. And then I saw the battles which looked really snazzy. I tried 00 years ago and couldn't understand anything. This new thing felt like the Dynazenon and Shinkalion reboots - sleek, pastels and big ensemble cast - all stuff I love.
No.4019
>>4000I am so glad you like the dub! You are doing it right.
The dub was made in a time when animé dubs were still well done, since they were done to milk maximum moolah off of a TV audience. It really helps to 'get into it' if that makes sense, since old animé moves a lot slower than modern ones do, and the dialouge in this show is such that it really needs to be localized to travel well, if that makes sense.
Kudos for doing the series first, too.

Both ZZ and Zeta have bullshit, it's just a matter of whether you prefer housewification of hot villainesses or Four clones frotting the MC. But more power to you if you like wasting time on Mashmyre and Scrappy Char.
No.4032
>>4031Marshmallow was a peak Gundam character. He gave me many a laugh and he's the 80s /fa/ embodied, so I prefer him over the likes of cult leader Scirocco, schizo patient Reccoa or Rosamia the Newtype Drama Recycling Queen.
Chara is the best ZZ female character - Haman can't even compete.
Yazan becoming a running gag character was brilliant - way to trigger his fanboys, much appreciated.
No.4034
>>4032Based I also like ZZ more than Zeta. Sometimes a goofier cast can make up for a worse story.
No.4035
>>4032>>4034To be fair I watched this back in that phase where I thought all anime should be serious business maybe I'd appreciate ZZ more nowadays. I still have zero fondness for these wacky characters though, Chara being kept in the background like a pet just made me angry and Mashmyre while funny at first quickly got on my nerves. At least with Zeta I had zero issue being invested in Kamille's story. Reccoa and Scirroco are meh sure enough but I hardly even noticed them between the Chamuro violins and Kamille's righteous autism.
