A thread for discussing the hurt/comfort trope

I'll start:
>what are your favourite h/c scenarios?
My favourite is when a character becomes very delirious from a serious sickness/injury and has to be soothed and calmed down, and the other character has to take care of them and nurse them back to health.

>What type of characters do you love to see suffering?

I don't like hurting wholesome sunshine boys, the best victim is an egotistical asshole. It's great seeing such characters who hate to be weak being forced to be vulnerable in a state of pain. Especially when they suffer so much they break and do a personality 180 to become pitiful and they have to slowly build themselves back up again with the help of their love interest.

>What relationship dynamic do you like best?

I like it when there is a power imbalance between the hurt person and the comforter- like master/ servant, boss/subordinate,etc It can go either way- the boss has to be comforted by the subordinate and feels ashamed to be taken care of by someone 'lesser' than him, or the other way around where the subordinate is suprised and embarassed to be looked after and helped by their superior who they didn't expect to care about them. In the end, their relationship ends up changing and becoming more equal due to the incident.

>What are your favourite h/c scenarios?
Fanfic only abuser x victim ships. I'm a huge fan of manipulative men in general. Not a fan of seeing it much in canon because few series make it a point to actually have dynamics like this that aren't trying to be an after school special
>What type of characters do you love to see suffering the most?
Strong characters. Specifically characters who constantly put on a face and aren't actually bad at what they do. Like Shouto Todoroki is actually insanely good at what he does. But I do love throwing him into a blender. Pic related are from Tales of Graces and I recall just reading a ton of fanfic of them that ignores the end of the game.
>What relationship dynamic do you like best in h/c content?
Stockholm Syndrome will always, always be the best. To me anyways.

Generally the first fanfic I'll read. Huge fan of blackmail so damaging there's no way for that person to actually recover. Not so much a fan when the lack of comfort outweighs the hurt dished out all the time. At that point it's simply torture porn without end and I find that fucking boring, just as much as I find far too much fluff and cuddles for comfort with no hurt so much more boring

>What are your favourite h/c scenarios?
Rape recovery. Not so much focusing on the assault itself, but the character having their life seeminly ruined, withdrawing, and the othe party reaching out and going out of the way to help is the perfect h/c imo.

>What type of characters do you love to see

Every character suffering in their own way is great, but my favorite ones are comic relief characters who tend to be the butt of the joke. Especially since it naturally lends itself to grim dark suicidal thoughts since they'd perceive the rest of the cast to hate them, until the other half of the ship let's them know that they are valued.

>What relationship dynamic do you like best in h/c content?

Mutually beneficial h/c, I love when one character is suffering and is getting help, but then it's revealed the character who is giving the comfort is just as broken in another way so they are also healed through the interaction.

>Any h/c scenes from media which you enjoyed?

I would need to think on it, I mainly engage with h/c though fanfiction so I'm not sure if any official media has ever scratched the same itch.

>the boss has to be comforted by the subordinate and feels ashamed to be taken care of by someone 'lesser' than him
I'm really into this, but worse, I like an OP monster having to let a human take care of him. Making something that feels superior be vulnerable for once and accept that there's some feelings in common or that are actually worse for him and he shouldn't carry that alone. Or even scaring the human with their always reliable OP partner being bedridden and at the mercy of a curse or injury, something they could never imagine before. Trying their best to patch them up and haul them around, repeating this mantra that he's the toughest guy ever, he'll be back on his feet in no time, nothing could kill him, right? ~~And then that unfaltering belief gives them the strength to recover because magic.~~

When it flips the other way around it's "how is this thing being so gentle with me right now?" You can have the non-human fuck up caring for the human in some way and scramble to try and fix things. Cultural misunderstandings are easy to bullshit, like the non-human thinks the human is avoiding them, acting cold, rejecting their company, shutting them out. The human just has a bad cold and isn't aware the non-human can't catch it.

There was post I saw recently, where a long-lifed creature was faced with the idea that if they slept like they normally would, their human partner might die in the years before they woke up again. He struggled to admit this troubled him, because he was proud and supposedly very powerful. A little human no longer being there could cause him pain that no healing spell would fix. Obviously the answer was to confess his anxiety so they could help him wake up every day and be together as much as possible before the inevitable.

I might be straying a bit, but the answers in this thread are super varied already. I think the catharsis for me is when a couple communicates. There were some webnovels I read where the MC is piling up burdens on himself and never fucking tells anyone what he's actually thinking and trying to achieve or feels about anyone, and when you're in the midst of this you really want that moment where he breaks down and admits it all to someone. Some novels you're lucky and it's a male deuteragonist, but others the guy barely gets to tell a girl half of what's happening or never does at all, so there's still room for fics to run in and pull it off for the sheer indulgence of it. I want one of these isekai fuckers who coughs blood and passes out for a week to just lay himself bare and hear someone tell him something kind that he doesn't expect in return. What were you keeping it to yourself for, stupid. You know he'd accept you.

I'm not good or experienced at fics, but I want to write h/c with a character who has amputated limbs and/or was raped. The fic will be sweet and go into his recovery. I'm going research and writing a rough draft but does anyone have any recs for that sort of story?

Great taste, especially the mutual h/c-two fucked up individuals helping eachother is so fun.

>OP monster and human
Yesss I love this dynamic, especially when the monster is dehumanised and their human partner is the first one to treat them like a person.
