Does anyone have any recommendations for something kind of similar to Sakura-Gari? I like mysteries and horror. I prefer a long-ish story where the characters don't immediately get together, especially if one of them is kind of resistant to it. I like an antagonistic element to the relationship, but that's not a requirement or anything. I don't mind sad endings, and the main things I care about are plot and character development/dynamics. I very much care that the story or characters are compelling, and also has BL elements interwoven in it. Some examples of BL media I have enjoyed are Hashihime of the Old Book Town, MADK, Sakura-Gari, Happy Shitty Life, and Lkyt. Some examples of things I did not enjoy (or just aren't what I'm looking for) are DRAMAtical Murder, 10 Count, and Moritat.

>>4000Do you prefer manga only or anything? Assuming only manga, I think these might work:
-FAKE: This one's a little dated, but I still adore it even if it might not be for everyone. It's funny and silly for the most part, but during the later parts of the story, it delves into exactly what you're looking for in regard to the uke and themes. I really think this might capture the vibe you're wanting, assuming you can get past the Dorito chins.
-There Are Things I Can't Tell You: This might be a little angsty for your taste, but it does have the psychological aspects and the denial.
It has a happy ending, so don't worry on that front!-Ero Yume Aquarium: I thought this one was cute, and it fits some of your criteria. It's fairly lighthearted and cheerful. It's not terribly psychological, but there are a lot of sea creature facts kek.
-Qualia Under the Snow: I didn't love this, but a lot of people really do. It kind of fits the themes you like with its characters, and it's somewhat psychological.
-Happy Shitty Life: Probably the least fitting recommendation, I'm just going to throw it out there because the characters are pretty tsundere, it's funny, and at least one of them was very tenuously straight at the story's outset.
If you like VNs, I have some more suggestions you might also enjoy.

No.4030
>>4018You're welcome! I hope you like at least one of them! For VNs, you might like:
-Hashihime of the Old Book Town: This is almost exactly what you're describing. The protagonist (uke) is definitely tsundere, and there's a lot of internalized homophobia on both sides. He's the human incarnate of denial lmao. Of course, most people have already read this one, so I'm pretty sure you will have. If not, you absolutely should.
-Tokyo Onmyoji: So, this one doesn't have so much of the internalized homophobia part, but the protagonist is very much in denial about his feelings (especially towards one particular LI). The conflict comes from a bunch of factors. I think it happens in a way that feels relevant enough to include it on this list. The protagonist (uke) is tsundere, but he has a sort of arrogance about him that makes him very interesting to watch. He doesn't have any hangups about being gay, but he has enough other hangups regarding his relationships that it might be worth trying.
-UUUltraC: There are three sets of protagonist-LI pairs, and the second route is very much what you describe. The MC (uke) is homophobic, and he's pretty tsundere. The third route also has this vibe, but less than the second. There are a couple of annoying elements in the plot, but I think it's overall worth it.
-Mahoutsukai to Tenshi to Akuma: The uke protagonist of this one is unarguably a tsundere. In the angel's route, the angel had some hangups about their relationship, if I recall. I don't think it was homophobia-related specifically, but I remember the two had a lot of hangups about getting together. The protagonist denies his feelings constantly. The story is very cute and pretty lighthearted, although some of the bad endings might not be your favorite.

Both characters have a fun dynamic, and the MC is more thoughtful than I expected. I think it's worth a try, especially if it already sounded like something you'd enjoy.

>>5498I can think of a couple fujobait all male cast ones:
Antique Bakery, but you really need forgiving goggles for it because the guy in question has a child and the guy he ends up living with said "ew gays" as a teen and continues to be spooked by the existence of homosexuals (he realizes it's not right and does apologize but is still touchy). If you're okay with that he's quite cute and has this gap between his height and how blindly he'll follow what people ask of him. His disabilities are vaguely discussed but I don't believe they give a name to any of it, just that he doesn't have capacity to raise a child himself and needs to protect his eyesight.
In Korean webnovels with fujobait Debut or Die has a character who is pretty deeply autistic, not just that he will ramble for hours about music composition, but that he never seems able to read the room and blurts out extremely straight forward things like he hasn't understood why everyone is skirting around the point. He also doesn't emote with his face very well and looms about without conveying what he's there for, just waiting for the moment to speak before not knowing when to stop. On first impressions most people think he's scary and glaring. He's typically shipped with a very loud extrovert Latin American character so your mileage will vary on whether you can stand that guy. I quite like the dynamics between the cast and they do make it easy to ship them. Far as I've read nobody is canonically intended to be autistic though.

>>5705Anon, tysm for your recs, we seriously have such similar tastes. I absolutely love Unsettling Scent, I’m usually not a big fan of omegaverse but I adore the rivals to lovers trope, and finally an unhinged uke instead of a seme for once. Bret is so fine too.God’s Peace is one of my current obsessions, I just wish the updates were faster.Pizza Delivery Man is such a classic, I love pupper semes and dominant ukes. I read Monochrome Diary from your recs, not half bad, but I think I’ll wait for it to finish because I can’t deal with the uke’s self destructive behavior, I need to see them happy haha.
Anyway, here are some of my favs recs too
>Sunnyside Daycare Classmates A super unique story, sci fi dystopia with demons and superhumans, comedy crack but also a tearjerker. If you like FLCL or Kunihiko Ikuhara’s stuff, you’ll definitely love this one.
S2 is about to end, and the plan is 4 seasons if everything goes well. Each season focuses on a different MC. S1 is Jin, S2 is Kimoto, and Garon and Tehir will be the other MCs later. The author struggles with myopathy so it sometimes goes on monthly hiatuses. It really needs support because it might get cancelled (hope not, it’s pure kino). I really like the villain, he’s hilarious. The humor is absurd but it hits hard too the story. Highly recommend if you want something unique. Ongoing.
>Nerd Project Wholesome, cute, university setting, aspiring young lads.
Super cute, no toxicity. The MC’s girlfriend seems obsessed with a nerd guy from his college. Afraid she’s cheating on him, he starts stalking the nerd to catch them together. The nerd gets pissed and thinks the MC is a crazy stalker. They start hating each other, etc etc, shit happens and they end up living in the same dorm temporarily. The nerd eventually warms up to him and realizes the MC’s actually a genuine and way too nice but naive guy, and starts catching feelings. Really cute and heartwarming. Of course there’s some drama but their relationship stays healthy overall. Ongoing.

>>5709>idk why the question marks i wrote it on a word first so maybe that's why Whatever more recs
>Beware the Ides of March Psychological, wholesome.
Obsessive corrupt cop x ex-mafia convict turned florist.
It starts off rough with SA. The cop is trying to find out about the florist’s old boss to close a case, but the florist won’t talk. The cop goes way too far trying to make him confess, but the florist never breaks. Later, as the cop realizes what kind of man the florist is and starts falling for him, he gets a redemption arc and truly regrets what he did. It’s rare to see that kind of writing, really satisfying to watch. Finished.
>Kill Me If You Can Comedy crack, cute, tearjerker, nice smut.
The MC’s doppelganger is cloned using dead souls, and to live as a human he has to go to earth and kill his real self. The real selves doppelgangers kill are actually criminals, so they take their place and live good lives and be decent instead. The guy in charge accidentally makes the MC look like his favorite girl idol, so he looks nothing like his target. The ML is supposedly a serial killer, and the doppelganger has to kill him soon or he’ll disappear. He fails miserably and ends up living with him, only to realize the “serial killer” is actually super sweet and harmless guy. Finished.
>Lovesick Dog Wholesome, psychological, nice smut.Same author as Ouroboros. Go in blind.
Basically hurt people healing each other’s wounds. The art is gorgeous, it was such a ride. Finished.
>Bad Apple Comedy.Unhinged mafia boss x agent womanizer slut. Spin off of Red Candy if you’ve heard of it.
Not many chapters yet, but it’s enemies to lovers and seme turned uke. Love their chemistry. They’re constantly trying to bring each other down but also dominate each other because they’re both want to bone each other lol. Cute assholes. The seme’s a bit unhinged but he’s a cutie.
>Ghosts Nocturne Half ghost or shinigami x human.
Godtier art, suspense, angst.
The seme’s a half shinigami asshole with zero regard for humans. After screwing up smth, his dad punishes him by sending him to living world, and he can’t return until a human falls in love with him. He lands at a palace in the form of a cute abandoned dog, and the crown prince takes him in. At night he turns back and starts assaulting the prince. The prince has seen ghosts since childhood (some even molest him) and he’s cursed by someone *cough evil stepmom cough*, so everyone calls him crazy and a schizo that's unfit to rule in the future. By sleeping with the ghost he gets temporary protection, so they end up tangled together and also help him to break the curses. The ghost just wants him to fall for him so he can go back as fast as possible, but he ends up falling hard himself. Starts off rough but gets really good, and the art is stunning. S4 coming soon, they extended it since it’s popular so ongoing it is.
