>Favourite album and/or phase? Your favourite song?
Demon Days is my favorite album easily, though lore-wise I really like Plastic Beach and it was their narrative peak. 5/4 is my favorite song I love music with interesting time signatures.

>Favourite character?

Murdoc, a real bastard and his deviousness amuses me. They way he goes from slight dick to full-on madman is quite the character arc.

>Best ship?

2Doc obviously. The interviews help a lot, but of course during Plastic Beach you've got a Stockholm syndrome set up with Murdoc kidnapping 2D to make music together. I love the fact that canonically Murdoc struggled to make music without 2D and felt like he absolutely needed him. They've got a dark parasitic relationship that is fascinating and borders on tragic. A lot of phase 1 and Rise of the Ogre material supports them having canonically fooled around. Murdoc is point blank asked in an interview if he's ever fucked 2D and he evasively answers that he's fooled around with men before. By part 2 they've moved into with each other and are living together as seen in the shorts. A lot of people have analyzed song lyrics or can pull out specific lines since Murdoc is the song writer of Plastic Beach, but I'm not sure how much those should be factored in. I will say if they are To Binge is pure regret and angst.

>Do you still keep up with the Gorillaz lore? What are your thoughts about it?

I really, REALLY hated Phase 4. Musically and narratively, it felt like it threw away all of the interesting build up and narrative focus of 3 and didn't answer any of the questions hand-waving away any conclusion to the Plastic Beach. To add insult to injury the music was just… bad. Damon Albarn barely sang and it had way too many guest artists. Phase 5 was a bit of a redirection musically (Tranz was the best song in years) but was equally narratively vapid and decided a PPG crossover constituted a story. I don't even know what happened with Song Machine or Cracker Island and despite listening to both I couldn't name a single song off of either.

I guess at this point it doesn't feel like there is an interwoven story or anything deeper than surface level. They're hardly even a virtual band to me and just feel like set dressing for Damon's album projects. Which makes me sad because the promo art is very cute and I like the uptick in music videos. I just wish they were saying something.

I definitely agree with you on the last bit anon. With Demon Days and Plastic Beach it felt like Gorillaz had so much to say and so many interesting things happened lore-wise. The music had that unconventional charm and every song had an identity. Even The Fall is good to me even if it's objectively a weird album.
Now I'll admit I only got really into Gorillaz when they came back with Humanz (I did know of them before just not as much) so I didn't actually live through the previous albums and while some songs on this album were interesting it felt very stale. What was even the theme? The Now Now (had to look up the name because I had forgotten it lol) was kinda better but again it feels like it has no message or direction. I keep forgetting its name and I attribute its songs to either Humanz or Song Machine because the style and themes seem to be the same. Cracker Island imo started out good and the lore had potential but then they just didn't do anything more with it. The songs are catchy but too overproduced for Gorillaz.
