After much debate, we have reached a decision to limit the amount of boards this site contains. Here are the following boards that we are going to remove and why.
/sh/: since long ago, this board had the least amount of moderation and cannot be maintained in the way that should be appropriate regarding the topics it holds. Adding to that, there are many more active alternatives for those who wish to seek the same content.
The board will remain for a week until deletion, you may save images you want from there within that time period before it is removed.
Board link removed, access board from here:
>>>/sh//fr/: currently one of the least used boards, the reason for it having its own board to begin with is so the anons who do not like topics such as Mpreg and ABO to be able to browse their boards without seeing it and for the anons who are into it to have their own space for it. This board will have its threads moved to other appropriate boards when we see fit and future ABO talks can be discussed in /bl/ and other similar boards while Mpreg can be contained in /ex/.
Board link removed, access board from here:
>>>/fr//yu/: this board has served its purpose and once /f/ was created it seems that it is no longer needed for other boards and /f/ manage to fulfill what it was made for. Unlike /fr/, only a few select threads will be moved to other boards, large threads will not be moved.
The board will remain for a week until deletion, you may save images you want from there within that time period before it is removed.
Board link removed, access board from here:
>>>/yu/In addition to this, the /flf/ - fluff board will be brought back, only and strictly SFW discussion and images are allowed on the board. Cute shota images will be allowed, you are not allowed to post any suggestive or sexual looking SFW images of shotas. Keep it cute and keep it SFW.

This website will be taken down for a week or so within the month of January in order to apply the new updates for it. Things that will be changed are board specific themes, we will create themes for each board and update the main theme accordingly. We will have to use a pesky captcha system to limit the amount of malicious links we have to deal with, a small sacrifice to pay.
I will not be doing any tech support until after the January update, excuse my limited coding knowledge and as always, thank you for your patience.
No.351

Where does content like the classic issue of 500-year-old non-human "shota" type thing fall into? I like a series that has something along the lines of this but have nowhere to discuss it because I don't want to risk regular people chimping out and from experience shotacons don't like it either because it's not "real" shota.
No.360
>>357It's for the greater good, I don't want fujochan as a whole to be inaccessible from my country because some anons post shota stuff in boards I don't even use or want to see just like how MRM isn't accessible anymore in several countries because of shota.
No.361
>>360Probably a dumb question but what is MRM?
I'm not a shotacon and only use the board for sfw images so it isn't like I've lost anything. Still I feel bad for those who are because the only sites I can think of for the content are full of grossly realistic 3D models and are incredibly male-focused.
I hope the users of the board stick around for sfw threads.
No.362
>>361NTA but MRM is "MyReadingManga". It was my fav yaoi site but they shut it down in my country too and I can't go there anymore :( They posted so many good yaoi there and it wasn't all just shota content. I tried to bypass the ban but im not tech savy enough for that. It sucks.

>>352As for captchas, tests have always gave me broken results so far when I try to make my own, getting one from google will not be an option for us as I do not trust google. If things work out then we'll have a yaoi themed captcha.
>>358Go ahead anon, I encourage heavy moderation and strict verification for users before they join, we (FC team) will not be responsible for it. Best of luck.

>all this longing for the 00sI won't deny that it was a better time for community, but I don't think I'd go back. I've always been more of a weeb with an incidental interest in western slash and modern internet suits these needs of mine way more than Ye Olde Tymes. Pixiv+Twitter beats combing through an artist's personal fanart site for crumbs any day.
Speaking of, that reminds me that it wasn't all sunshine and rainbows. There was definitely a mild-to-severe degree of anime/jrpg-prejudice depending on where you were (that often bled into outright racism). I started going online to look for weeb stuff because I got bullied for liking it IRL (lmao) so it was annoying to have the same sentiment in some fandom spaces. You don't really see that anymore unless it's some rightoid going on about "tranime". I'm soooo jealous of people who got to grow up when liking anime was socially acceptable (as well as having access to higher quality and cheaper merch!).

>>406NTA but agree. BL was extremely inaccessible in the 00's and being not Japanese and not living in Japan you were limited to series that were either straight out dogshit or not BL but nevertheless sold as "yaoi" due to having bishounens in it. It's why retarded anime dudebros still call all joseimuke "fujo shit" (which is also why insecure yumes rage even more because they don't want men to see us the same). BL games never got official translations and the best you could get was a fan patch you had to pull all sorts of tricks to get working, or just play the game in Japanese and read the English translations somewhere else while playing. A lot of series were embarrassingly edgy and focused around rape and angst, and while I personally do enjoy problematic fiction every now and then that was the only kind available. It put a lot of people off back then, and even now I've had to go blue in the face explaining that things are different these days.
As for the community, the autistic yaoi fangirl with no social boundaries was a real thing and thankfully went extinct. A lot of them were genuinely unhinged and way more interested in obsessing over their seme husbando than shipping the two characters. Nowadays the "straight girls fetishizing gay people" thing is a meme worth eyerolls but back in those days that's basically what they were doing, seeing the gay men they met IRL as their yaoi dolls to play with and thinking that lesbians love to be groped and sexually harassed by other women.
The community cleaned up their act immensely in the 2010's and even though being a fujo continues to be suffering because we're always considered pariahs in the big fandom picture, we're getting way more direct pandering from official sources, there are entire services dedicated to releasing translated BL manga, more people are connecting through social media to share their creations, there's a lot of talk about BL as a tool of exploring female sexuality and the feminist angle of the genre, its origins being dug up from old Japanese sources etc. While I sometimes have nostalgia for the crusty 2005 Livejournal communities I have to remind myself of how they drove me insane on the regular and the frustration of not getting my hands on the doujinshis and mangas that I really, really wanted because they were out of print and importing was borderline impossible.
No.411
>>386Disagree. Lolcow is ran by people larping as normalfags who think "anime is bad" is a revolutionary statement, cannibalistic camwhores talking shit about each other, tradthots and FDS BPD-chans posing as radfems, undercover scrotes and husbandofags who hate fujos to the point they literally can't go a day without derailing a thread to bitch about them and how they're all degenerate porn addict trannies. I only used Lolcow for its fujo thread and a few others but didn't bother with the rest of the site, I'm not interested in gossip and I would rather read discussion about media, weeb media specifically, especially as a fujo.
In case you're talking about the manhate (due to the coy "it's *just* like lolcow!" statement) then deal with it, more men need to be drafted to a war only to never return.

>>410I see what you mean, and to some extent I agree. These things are more acceptable and easier to find these days.
I'll take 'my stuff is impossible to find' over 'I can find my stuff, but everyone posts about partisan politics all the time in a very hostile manner and I'm assumed to agree with them or be shunned'
No.413
>>412Or you could just not interact with them? While I agree that I wish more people who clearly don't enjoy the medium as a whole would leave or be gatekept, in terms of baseline fandom accessibility I'm with the other anon.
If you just stay on Pixiv and know how to properly filter stuff on AO3 it's much easier as a whole to avoid these people. While the slow conglomeration of the internet has been pretty fucking terrible and corporate, for fandom it's great. Open Doors on A03 is rescuing blogs and fandom communities that are dying. Previously they would have been gone, completely lost. Now fandom has enough infrastructure and reach to keep things alive more permanently. You have preservation efforts, ever evolving ways of participation like group fan-animatics, zines are more organized than ever and incredibly polished products, people can more easily sell fan-merchandise.
Another thing I love about modern fandom is how much easier as a whole it is to find older shows that in turn create newer fanbases and give series second-chances. I despise Crunchyroll as a company and think their subs are lacking in comparison to fansubs. At the same time though since they cover just about every seasonal anime more fansub communities are working on subbing 70s and 80s series that I enjoy. Years ago most retro anime fansubs were for OVAs and early entries in big franchises. Ditto for manga releases, as official scalations grow scangroups can focus on previously unloved and ignored releases. Now the previously neglected children's series and weirder series aimed at niche audiences (like early BL works) are finally getting time to shine.
It's easy to fall into a trap of looking with rose-tinted glasses back on the past, and failing to see how things improve over time. I miss LiveJournal, I miss early Tumblr, I miss when DeviantArt was an actually browsable site with a unique culture. Some things do get worse, some things die. However it's important to not miss what new benefits change can bring.

>>41299% of the fujos that I have met in recent years think that the people shilling hostile identity politics (i.e. not reasonable debate of the female sexual liberation of BL and the lesbian community that was a big part of creating it) or muh fetishization are delulu nutjobs. Empty barrels make the most noise, the overwhelming majority of fujo communities have a good head on their shoulders about this, especially if you hang around people past 25 who have actual lives to take care of instead of just spending all their time online engaging with a polarized mine field.
No.415
I too feel nostalgia for the old times in general, but I deeply envy younger generations who have grown up in a context where manga/anime and Japanese culture in general have become mainstream. I see kids wearing MHA shirts outside, streaming anime on their phones on the bus, grown adults trying to sound special by claiming how much they love this obscure studio called Ghibli, etc, while back when I was a kid I'd get laughed at if I even dared to admit that I watched Digimon instead of generic western cartoons. This is a great time to be into BL, no matter how shit the internet might be at least everyone has a chance to engage with like-minded fans, let's try to make the most out of it. If only I could have enjoyed this much interaction back when I was young.
