Also, with Orb being a big success and SARU adapting Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia (not gay, but interesting) next I have hopes that they'll realise that there is a market for historical series, even if it's just a bunch of dudes talking about astronomy.

One of the things that make historical series great is that you get extra canon by reading documents of the past. Especially if your favs are historical themselves. Think this is also a source of inspiration for fans of the Fate servants. Series is over? Nevermind, just dig through historical texts and discover new facts about your favs that you can implement into headcanons, fanart motifs and fic premises!

I generally love Romans, knights, monks and samurai. There is luckily a lot of the latter in manga. Thanks to the anime adaption of ngwk I got infected by old man yaoi and started shipping Sadamune and Ichikawa lmao
I have a weak spot for guys that look and act like villains but turn out to be goofy dudes with moral standards. Even better if they plot together and cling to each other while riding their horse at night.

That's a good question. Going by japanese time periods I'd say the showa era is too close to modern for my standards even though I know World war 2 is still technically historical.

Every past era is historical to me. WWII is certainly historical but why shouldn't the Vietnam war or Berlin wall related stories be considered historical?

To be honest I am interested in all periods no matter which, including cave men. Though I will most likely avoid Victorian age stuff unless it's a manga about the Firth of Tay Bridge or something.
I would call everything historical that involves eras or conflicts that are mostly concluded. So the current invasions aren't historical to me, at least not as long as they last, but the Balkan war is, even though it just ended a few decades ago.
