Morbius.
No wait, before anybody thinks I'm memeing- the chemistry between Milo and his boy Morbius was genuinely interesting, and fun. His female love interest literally only existed to be, well, his female love interest. His best friend (Milo) on the other hand, existed because he was an important character in the tale of the man's whole life.
They slept next to each other in the same hospital room, afflicted with the same sickness, and Morbius was looking to cure them both. They call each other brothers, touch each other's faces, and embrace. I am upset that Hollywood, and shounen, make amazing tales of love between men- but they refuse to capitalize on it and call it what it is!
Also I like your observation on DPS as well. I enjoy poetry in my homos flicks.

>>2636 I don't know who they are but the art is gorgeous. Media with military setting just tends to have tons of homoeroticism.

So I started watching a series called Un-go. The character designer for it is Yun Kōga who worked on Loveless and Earthian two popular BL works. With that in mind you'd imagine the series would be fujobait, but I'm more than just disappointed.
So, pic related is a character called Inga, they're an assistant to the detective MC. The character is referred to as male by both the narrative and online sources, but this is only one form of the character. Once per episode he'll transform into a giant voluptuous lady, be handsy with MC and other characters, and the narrative affirms that this is the true form.
I'm only a quarter of the way through the show, but I don't understand why you'd hire a BL designer and make the secondary male lead turn into a women. I'd much rather him turn into a bigger male character, maybe a suave butler or detective?
Like I said, not done with it yet, but I just hate to have potential BL ripped away like this. I've fallen for reverse traps before, but nothing like this.
No.3244
>>3243Did you not even read the synopsis before picking it up? Nothing sounds fujo-baity about it, and it's based on a novel written by an eccentric dude that was really into Buddhism and Hinduism, which you can still feel influences of in the anime.
I assume Koga did the designs because she's friends with the director and has worked with him before, and is perfectly capable of designing shit outside BL. Basically saying she's not allowed to do whatever she wants is retarded and a disservice.
No.3245
>>3244>Did you not even read the synopsis before picking it up? Nope bought it for cheap last Black Friday for 2 dollars with a bunch of other discounted anime.
I understand that artists don't have to be pigeonholed into one genre, but it still doesn't mean I'm going to be happy when the only other prominent male character in a show is randomly turned into a women for scenes that feel overly fanservicey. I guess it's my fault that everything I read of hers is BL and that's what I expect.

It sucked. I agree, the boy turning into a woman really put me off. That said, I love the ED. That song is wicked good, I listen to it once a week at least.

There is this film called 'The Gay Deceivers' it's from 1969 and is about two qts, one is blond the other brunette, pretending to be gay to escape getting drafted for 'Nam. They move into the Village and hilarity ensues.
(And by hilarity I mean also actual consequences of being gay like getting fired from jobs, GF leaving, etc)
Blondie takes the role of homo to the stars and makes friends with his neighbours. He's also the dude who at the start says stuff like 'Don't knock it till you tried it' and also implies there will be consequences if he's not getting any sex. He's a playboy w/sugar momma.
while Brownie is sad, conflicted, and uncomfortable, despite being the guy who started this whole charade.
Oh and there was also an agreement to 'Give up broads for the duration'
I think it would have been greatly improved if the guys had decided they were too far in to quit now, gotten support from their nice gay neighbours and ended up confronting their feelings for each other.
Also blondie spends a lot of time shirtless or undressed. There's a paltry female boob to make up for it, but it doesn't come close to the amount of screentime dedicated to Blondie's chest.

>>3272Well this one is going on the watch-list.
I see it's listed as a comedy, would you say it succeeded at that or is it mainly just dated?
No.3274
>>3273I'd say it succeeds enough. The actors are good enough at acting to sell the jokes, and it's remarkably pro-gay for the period.
Some of the comedy comes from the OOT camp performances of the gay characters, which are genuinely funny if you like that sort of thing.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kOZY7e5XN6s ←– Clip of the film illustrating point in question
Dude in blonde in the clip is Michael Greer, gay comedian who edited the script to make it more gay-friendly, and it shows.
(The whole movie is on youtube.)

Haha yessss the start of the film really gets right to the laughs <spoiler> Blondie's hands were made for grabbing, huh :D I love how you get to see the actual comedic chops of Brownie/Danny, adds some charm to his character.</spoiler>
The whole 'Ivy Leauge'/'upper class East coast' feeling is very aesthetic, is underrated in BL.

The Outsiders. I had to read it for a class in grade school ages ago and I mostly remember coming out of it being convinced Dallas and Johnny were in love with each other (and looking up fics of the ship with my friend afterwards). Why else would Dally essentially commit suicide right after hearing Johnny was dead? I'm actually starting to re-read now but I've been busy with classes so I haven't gotten to the end yet, even though it's pretty short. I can see quite a few pairings already but Ponyboy x Johnny stands out to me too and his brothers. Also I have no idea if I'm making this up but I swear I remember something about the book being controversial for having 'homoerotic themes', maybe that was A Separate Peace though, which I also had to read in grade school and also kind of belongs in this thread.

For me it's M R James ghost stories. Adaptations will focus on the spooks and cut it short, but in the text you know the strongest force against an unknown evil is the camaraderie of a fellow man who cares. Men who fool around with women? They can be tried and sent miserably to their death.

i read the paul street boys when i was around 13 and even then i could tell something was up with two guys, i dont remember their names now or exactly what went down, but i do recall fujoing out and googling if there was any reference or possibility of canon homosexuality in the book that i didnt know of from scholars or whatnot, since the book was a hit and is a literature classic.
there wasn't any information on that at all, and it became my secret fujo love for a few weeks until the lack of content washed it away.
but i was baffled and still am, especially because of one specific scene where these two boys were arguing very passionately with each other on something very emotional, and suddenly one of them said something like "you could never understand how i feel for you…" and it was super vulnerable and very gay imo. how did that never raise any discourse?? how did people read that and never wondered and simply moved on… it read like a love confession tbh
anyways, the fact there is a hidden fujo gem made it feel more special to me even though it was upsetting at the time, and i still remember the book dearly, and not only because of BL related reasons.
to answer the question of the thread though, i dont think that it being BL would have made it better. i dont really know why im talking about this, i felt like sharing somewhere

Unironically Fight Club, even though Marla(?) was pretty good for movie standards.
But if MC is obsessed with his alter ego he might as well go full way out and be gay with him as well, hinting at some suppressed homosexuality, like so many other things MC suppressed until Tyler revealed it to him. The woman was good, but she felt a bit tagged on in the second half IMO in order to pander to a wider audience with some romance. Also, self-cest is always nice.

Ajin is such a sausagefest that it should have been a BL/homobait title from the start. There are NO women of any relevance aside from Izumi - it's all revolving around homosocial bonds of men who prefer to socialise with other men, fight other men, be entertained by other men, conspire with other men, chase other men, save and be saved by other men and talk DEEP STUFF with other men.
I can't conceive a possibility of some male readers being upset at fujoshi calling the manga a feast of undiluted homosexuality when it has a higher male/female ratio than Legend of Galactic Heroes, features an MC being coveted by two dudes of his own age and an old man, and is a uniform fetishism galore. This shit ain't straight, dude.
Personally for me it's Kou x Kei, because of the contrast between them (smart - dumb, emotional - stoic) and because their interactions when they either kill each other or save each other or both at the same time are hot.
