 No.2152

There are some people who stay dedicated to one fandom for decades and then there are some who are constantly changing fandom depending on what's trending. This isn't discussed often but I'm curious.
>Have you ever been active in the same fandom for several years or do you tend to lose interests quickly?
>Do you participate in several fandoms at the same time or do you prefer to devout yourself to 1-2 fandoms at the time?
>Do you find it weird when people stay in the same fandom for years? Do you think they are weird/obsessive and not willing to try new stuff?
>Do you judge people for changing fandom often? Do you think those people as clout chasers?

ok but seriously.

>Have you ever been active in the same fandom for several years or do you tend to lose interests quickly?

I don't think active is the right word. But staying is. Like I'm still technically involved with the Hetalia fandom years after its peak but I don't actively produce content for example. If there's discussion relating to Hetalia i'd be there. Hetalia is just an example though as there are other fandoms where I have this stance too. I usually tend to hop in and out of fandoms and never truly abandoning them.
>Do you participate in several fandoms at the same time or do you prefer to devout yourself to 1-2 fandoms at the time?
Currently I am in several fandoms. But my level of devotion isn't the same. It also depends on my mood for which fandom I want to obsess over atm.
>Do you find it weird when people stay in the same fandom for years? Do you think they are weird/obsessive and not willing to try new stuff?
I don't find it weird at all since I myself still linger in old fandoms. But I do think it's important to let yourself experience new stuff too.
>Do you judge people for changing fandom often? Do you think those people as clout chasers?
I don't because I don't think it's relevant enough for me to think that hard about it.

>Have you ever been active in the same fandom for several years or do you tend to lose interests quickly?
I've never been a very active participant in any fandom but if I get into one I'm in it for a very long time, multiple years

>Do you participate in several fandoms at the same time or do you prefer to devout yourself to 1-2 fandoms at the time?

1-2, partially because they take a lot of my attention and partially because not every fandom will suit my preferences

>Do you find it weird when people stay in the same fandom for years? Do you think they are weird/obsessive and not willing to try new stuff?

I'm am one of those people
I acknowledge that I am weird and obsessive but I'm also generally harmless
Again, it's just an issue of me having specific tastes and not always being able to get into newer things and instead continuously having fun with the older stuff as everyone else slowly moves on

>Do you judge people for changing fandom often? Do you think those people as clout chasers?

I shouldn't judge anyone but depending on the person I might find them fickle and having only a surface level interest in these things, or even have a hyper-active and careless personality
It depends on how they behave outside of the fandom discussions

>Have you ever been active in the same fandom for several years or do you tend to lose interests quickly?
It kind of depends lately. I can be very loyal to the things I like, but if there's not any more content to enjoy (or the content isn't to my liking anymore, which happens a lot to mobages I get into) I just kinda lose interest.
As an example, I was into Granblue Fantasy consistently for 6+ years. But lately, I just don't really care about it anymore. For videogames like say, Persona, I always have loved it and consistently keep up with it but provided there's content I can discuss or be interested in. It's a special interest for sure, but I don't like regurgitating the same topics and opinions like everyone else ad infinitum over and over.

>Do you participate in several fandoms at the same time or do you prefer to devout yourself to 1-2 fandoms at the time?

Just a few, maybe like 5 tops at the same time but not more than that. I usually just handle 3 anyway.

>Do you find it weird when people stay in the same fandom for years? Do you think they are weird/obsessive and not willing to try new stuff?

I don't think it's weird but I think that it's more damaging in the long run, imo. I was kind of like this with GBF where I refused to play any other mobage because I had to be loyal to the game even if it just wasn't that good to me anymore, but eventually I did it and never looked back.
I think it's good to have a wide repartoire of interests, but then you have cases such as the last question.

>Do you judge people for changing fandom often? Do you think those people as clout chasers?

Honestly? Yeah. I don't think they're clout chasers but it's just kinda ADHD kids who like, maybe saw a friend or a video or saw that it was relevant due to a meme and suddenly become an "expert" in the topic within a week then drop the interest for the next thing. It's annoying, specially if you want to have meaningful discussions. It also does kinda bother me with artists too, that I like them for a niche thing but they move on to another thing then to another and another and never even cared about either of them (and worse, they delete old art as they fandomhop).

>Have you ever been active in the same fandom for several years or do you tend to lose interests quickly?
Honestly, it depends. I've never been interested in a fandom for more than 2-3 years. I sometimes do lose interests quickly. For me, it depends on how much I care about the characters in a fandom and how much the story has impacted me.
>Do you participate in several fandoms at the same time or do you prefer to devout yourself to 1-2 fandoms at the time?
Being in multiple fandoms is fun. I can totally do that.
>Do you find it weird when people stay in the same fandom for years? Do you think they are weird/obsessive and not willing to try new stuff?
Not at all. I view it as devotion and true love for the characters and story. I applaud people who are willing to stick with what makes them happy rather than just chase the current popular thing.
>Do you judge people for changing fandom often? Do you think those people as clout chasers?
I do believe that people may change fandoms often because they want to follow what's popular and they don't want feel left out from the "hype". Sometimes, I'm not even sure if these people even genuinely like the story or characters, but just want to feel like they're fitting in. I don't believe this is wrong. People should be allowed to do whatever they want lol

>it was relevant due to a meme and suddenly become an "expert" in the topic
New Vocaloid/Miku fans are a good example of this. Miku has always been sort of a mascot for the Vocaloid brand so she did feel oversaturated at times but at least Miku fans used to care about the other Cryptonloids. But new Miku fans only watch those "miku tells you to stand loona" memes and then think they know anything about the Vocaloid scene.
> It also does kinda bother me with artists too, that I like them for a niche thing but they move on to another thing then to another and another and never even cared about either of them (and worse, they delete old art as they fandomhop).
I don't blame artists for fandomhopping if their main source of income is art commissions but it still is really annoying when you follow someone for a niche and then they suddenly start only drawing whatever shounen de jour is. It's a slap in the face when they delete their old art too and pretend that they never where in that fandom. At the risk of sounding entitled it feels disrespectful towards their earlier fans who supported them back then. It's fine to lose interests in things and disliking your earlier work is normal but other people still like it why take it down?

> they want to follow what's popular and they don't want feel left out from the "hype".
FOMO is real and I gotta admit I sometimes watch an anime I don't like just because it has a large and active following. I usually lurk Twitter tags for a few months before the FOMO dies out and I completely give up on the show.
I am aware that I'm a hypocrite for criticizing people for following trends and dropping shows when I do it myself lol>________>

>Have you ever been active in the same fandom for several years or do you tend to lose interests quickly?
I'd say it's around half and half. I'm in my 30s now and have stuff from my teens still kicking around in my head, but I've also dipped into some FotM stuff and then bounced when the fun wore off.

>Do you participate in several fandoms at the same time or do you prefer to devout yourself to 1-2 fandoms at the time?

I cycle through them. I used to juggle a lot of them in my teens, but as I got older there was just much less to squee about.

>Do you find it weird when people stay in the same fandom for years? Do you think they are weird/obsessive and not willing to try new stuff?

Nah, that's like thinking it's weird to have a comfort food. I think these people do try new things, but if they don't love it, it probably doesn't make it to their social media.

>Do you judge people for changing fandom often? Do you think those people as clout chasers?

I used to not be judgy, but then too many artists I used to follow got into vtubers. I have a mile-long list of filters on Twitter for this shit and finally just had to start blocking the people who managed to get through them. Makes me miss tumblr like you wouldn't believe.

As for clout, I can understand chasing it if nsfw fanart is your moneymaker, but I consider it soulless, especially if you can't tell what an artist actually loves by looking at their galleries. This is partially why I consider fanfic "purer" devotion than fanart–the most writers get from fanfic is notoriety and very, very rarely can they springboard it into something that pays the bills.

>>2156
>(and worse, they delete old art as they fandomhop).
I've been revisiting an old ship on tumblr and so many blogs I check from a reblog I see has been deleted. I'm glad that at least SOME art is preserved via reblogs, but it's hard not to be bitter about the loss. I save everything I can now.

>Have you ever been active in the same fandom for several years or do you tend to lose interests quickly?
Back in the LJ days I hang on to certain fandoms for a long time, but then LJ died and I stopped largely interacting with fandoms. I just post fic and go.
>Do you participate in several fandoms at the same time or do you prefer to devout yourself to 1-2 fandoms at the time?
the latter, I read fic for many fandoms but writing fic for only 1-3 fandoms.
>Do you find it weird when people stay in the same fandom for years? Do you think they are weird/obsessive and not willing to try new stuff?
nah
>Do you judge people for changing fandom often? Do you think those people as clout chasers?
migratory slash fans? admittedly I judge the clout-chasers. some of them get fomo'd THEN start massive drama in their new fandoms.

Secondary here, I got into Vocaloid because of Project Diva (and only because Superbeat Xonic was more expensive at the time). Thank fuck I never interacted with the fandom outside of /jp/ and liking Pixiv art. There is so much amazing music but they can only be braindead kpoopers, disgusting.

>Have you ever been active in the same fandom for several years or do you tend to lose interests quickly?
I usually stay in the fandom for multiple years before moving into something new. It's usually because the franchise itself starts to stagnate and there's not a lot left to explore. I still stay interested and never lose my "love" for it but it kinda takes a back seat to new things.
>Do you participate in several fandoms at the same time or do you prefer to devout yourself to 1-2 fandoms at the time?
I participate in multiple fandoms but often have one "main" fandom with multiple smaller ones.
>Do you find it weird when people stay in the same fandom for years? Do you think they are weird/obsessive and not willing to try new stuff?
In some extreme cases, sometimes the people obsessing after Sonic or some other kid-friendly franchise for 2 decades in a row without trying anything more challenging kind of make me raise my eyebrows but then again I don't really care unless they're obnoxious about it.
>Do you judge people for changing fandom often? Do you think those people as clout chasers?
Sort of, yes. If your fandom changes every 6 months when you change literally everything starting from your handle, profile pic to your merchandise collection to reflect your new obsession while removing all traces of your previous fandom it comes across as dishonest, insecure and clout chasing for sure.

Don't get me started anon, I've muted and filtered so many people because of this. I used to follow them for fandom artwork yet they either became fulltime vtuber simps or vtubers themselves. What is it about the vtuber brainrot that ruins things so thoroughly?

>Have you ever been active in the same fandom for several years or do you tend to lose interests quickly?
I usually jump on and off between fandoms, lurking every 3-6 months for most of them. If not I return after a few years.
>Do you participate in several fandoms at the same time or do you prefer to devout yourself to 1-2 fandoms at the time?
Several although there is still "main" fandoms, and others are more casual.
>Do you find it weird when people stay in the same fandom for years? Do you think they are weird/obsessive and not willing to try new stuff?
Not really, I love the dedication of those people and those are the ones keeping the fandom alive.
>Do you judge people for changing fandom often? Do you think those people as clout chasers?
Hypocritical of me but yeah, if they have big following I tend to judge them if they never return or talk about it again, pretending they were never in that fandom especially if they delete their older work or were never that deep into the fandom in first place (like just consooming the memes and never the actual work…)
