Whoa small world, I also just started the game. I found a copy for the switch at my local library. I'm on day 7 so far. My favorite character's Darumi right now. I like how unhinged she is and was sad when I saw her die in the first battle, but thankfully there's that whole revive thing.

Darumi is one of my favorites too! As fellow VN fan she's instantly likable. I saw someone post her in the fujo characters thread so I'll consider that another bonus. I wonder what the points you accumulate go to? Maybe you know by now, but I'm hoping there's unique combat skills for hanging out with certain characters. Also the boardgame side mission is fun and I can see myself sinking hours into just that.

You mean the bp and materials? I know it's used in the training room you get access to, and it doesn't use freetime up. I believe day 10 you get access to a place to use them more. Or do you mean the report card grades like creativity and endurance? Those are used for the training room. You need a 2 in linguistics to get the second skill upgrade for Takumi, etc. Also the exploration board game is evil. As much as I like it, the rngoddess is not kind to me.

I admit I was afraid to check this thread since I'm not through the game yet, but as someone on day like 29-30 or so, it seems I'm the farthest ahead. This game made a long train trip shoot by easy-breezy.

I really like that they seem to have embraced the fujo audience with the character roster. Feels like they finally put together the pieces of 'what is our fanbase', I put all the freetime events into the boys. Poorfag-kun is my favourite so far, and I wonder sort of if the folk music record works as a gift for him, since folk music from the 1960's-70's in JP is connoted with activism around poor people.

It feels like they took all the 'free time' + gacha gifts + The Damn Phone Game from prior DR titles, and integrated them better with the gameplay. The story being sort of reverse DR is really cool, too.

So far, Motorcycle Boy x Poorfag-kun is looking like a cute ship, based on their interactions around sewing.

Any new impressions on the game? I personally can't stand Gaku, but his design is cute. I feel like there's a decent amount of fujobait in the game.

How does everyone feel about the combat? At first I struggled a bit cause I tried playing it like fire emblem, but now that I'm farther in and got traps and Nozomi I've been cheesing some of the battles. Like I finished day 29 battle in 9 turns by using Takumi's special attack multiple times in one turn. It also helps that last resorts don't use voltage like regular special attacks.

Also, I've been feeding Takumi the commanders. I'm hoping it doesn't come back and bite me in the ass later down the line, but I use him the most so I figured it's probably smartest to do so.

I'm around day 82-85 or so now, I think. We just rescued incest hottie. I am sad and disappointed by how the game chooses to continue to portray him, and will hold out hope that a more complete reconstruction will be possible at some point. Alternatively, I will live in AUs.

Genuinely siscon who went through sexual abuse to save his sister hits right in the feels. I think he'd be cute with Yugamu, given that they've got the whole doctor/patient angle, on top of the whole wealth gap thing. And mutual smug mind games, they strike me as the pair that would rile each other up.

Gaku continues to be a grade A cutie. I love sick book boy too, he's cutest under protag. Even the fact that he's tall is cute, it makes him look dainty.

I've tried to give all my favourites the bufferinos…. Hoping this doesn't bite me in the ass, either.

Also, I was correct about the folk music!

So I made it to day 100. And oh wow. Spoilers inbound. First off, I was really lukewarm about Aotsuki Eito until day 96. And even then, it wasn’t until the reveal about the bed creeping that I changed my mind and now I absolutely love him. Also I love RUMBLE by Paledusk. Really helped sell the final battle. And the fact that it’s Aotsuki’s battle music helped change my mind about him. Prior to all that, I was already suspicious of Aotsuki. I feel like Darumi kinda fell off towards the end there, I mean it makes sense though. But she was so strong in the beginning. Seeing her mental state worsen was a little depressing. Also that cryptic message at the end? I can’t wait to see what that was about. I’m pleasantly surprised by how much I like this game. It felt like when I played Danganronpa for the first time. I guess it helped that I didn’t know any of the spoilers for this game like I did for the first Danganronpa.

EITO IS SO CUTE!!!!! You get it, nona :D I thought he was going to be 'ill boy moe' but he turned out to be an even bigger lil' bitch than expected. And the deranged rival foe yay is hot.

After the 100 days ended, I went back in time, spared Aotsuki and stashed him in that lil' cage. I then sacrificed Yugamu's academy, because I worried that the invaders would not only shit up my beloved poorfag, but also Aotsuki and Motorcycle-kun. Don't get me wrong. Yugamu is cute, but there is math involved here.

Blindfolds seem good for Eito. So does temporary blindness, making him have to depend on Takumi for food and other stuff.

The biggest sorrow is Takumi never being able to look him in the eyes when they have sex, but at least his mouth is smiling.

You won't be let down by Takumi in at least one of the routes, she basically takes over the role of Kirigiri in the first DR1

So far, my playthrough is getting interesting. Kind of downed Takumi's mental state by the whole sacrificing the other academy meaning breaking up with his not-GF and frustratingly, I cannot hang out with Eito so here's hoping his help will be needed at some point. Also, Gaku refuses to talk :(((((

Have to admit, I'm very curious about the Yugamu / Gaku ship, is there anything in the routes that point to it? Or is it just richfag/poorfag aesthetics? If this question can be answered without spoilers, I'll be happy.

I decided to use my free time to actually explore this time cause I only did story explorations the first time. I’m glad gifts aren’t too expensive. Also I decided to give Tsubasa the commanders until she gets maxed like I did Takumi. Her no fatigue skill is great.

I just assumed it was from the demo and how Yugamu puts the knife against Gaku’s neck in the first meeting. It’s so brief in the full game though, but maybe there’s something else like another route. Currently, if I were to ship Gaku with anyone, it’d probably be with Takemaru imo. And if I were to ship Yugamu with anyone, it’d be Eito and/or Takumi.

I'm now on day 35 of the re-do and am not sure what I want to go with. Leaning towards sealing the beast since the story is leading me to think that it'll be put into Eito and if that happens, he will suffer more, and be cutely vulnerable.

Tsubasa is the way to faster battles. She’s so op. And springtraps are useful in the battles where Takumi and Nozomi aren’t in front of the commander. They’re basically dash without using AP. All the potions are great too.

I got to day 46 so far and chose to seal the beast inside someone. Big spoiler, it’s sealed inside of Darumi and she’s got pica now. Also she makes a joke that she’s eating for two in front of Tsubasa, so I’m pretty sure Tsubasa thinks Takumi and Darumi have been fucking. I’m kinda scared Darumi’s gonna start eating people.

I see them as a hatefuck sorta ship. Especially when day 96 happened and Yugamu was like “you are so not cute, Eito.” It’s very much the definition of using Fujo goggles. I also just like the idea of them fighting over Takumi. I do hope there’s more bait for Yugamu cause I find him so fun.

Some musings on Eito's condition

It's got a bit of a pedigree. It's first seen in the 'future' section of Osamu Tezuka's Pheonix stories, which had a strong environmentalist bent. A time loop is also central to this universe.

It's likely that the author was inspired by Saya no Uta as well, given that the ones in Tezuka were mainly depersonalised pieces of rock. Not awful to look at, but difficult to relate to. Saya is the one where the guy actively dislikes humanity.

I think having too many routes is the game's strength and weakness, one good experience getting on a decent route will keep you hooked in on the game but a bad one will make you bored specially how long everything seems to be.

This is good advice, but I'm already through most of the routes you can get by sparing Eito kek. I think I'm close-ish to the end (kind of), but I've just lost steam. I do want to get the true route (I know it's not actually a 'true' route, but you know what I mean) so I can say I 'completed' it, if that makes sense? I feel like it's unfair to judge a mystery VN until I've read whatever the resolution to it is. Sadly, I haven't touched any of the routes where you kill Eito, and I think I need at least one to unlock the rest of the true route. I had planned to save the true route for last.

I think this is my main problem. At first, all the different routes and possibilities were exciting, but now, I'm to the point where I feel like I'm finishing them just to get them out of the way. I liked portions of the VN, but it's just SUCH a time investment, and the time I'm spending no longer feels like it's paying off.

The kill Eito routes range from ok to fucking horrible so I wouldn't bother with them unless you really want to, all you really get as an Eito fan is SF where he calls Takumi beautiful and eats paper kek. 2nd scenario is genuinely fantastic and worth doing though, it probably has the most amount of Eito love too.

SF isn't really the true route, it's just the Hiruko waifu shilling route, 2nd scenario is the true route and you don't need anything to unlock it.

I usually try to get all of the endings in VNs because sometimes, a single ending completely alters my view of the story. I've had plenty of instances where the ending completely redeemed or elevated a story in my mind. Unfortunately, in this case, it seems to be changing my opinion for the worse. I may just finish up the few spare Eito endings I have left, and then look up a guide for how to get the kill Eito ending I need for SF. Maybe I'll take a break and finish off the other, more boring endings in a few months or just leave it be.

Interesting. I knew it wasn't actually a "true route" in the sense that all the routes could be considered canon, but I assumed it was an "answer route" of sorts. I haven't done 2nd Scenario, but I can't be too far off from it assuming it's one of the spare Eito endings I have left.

On a more positive note so I don't completely drag down the thread, I really like Eito. He's in the running for my favorite character in VNs I've read this year (not all time, although he is one one of my favorites from any Kodaka VN I've played). I know other nonas have discussed the Saya no Uta influences upthread, but it's fun to see that kind of character's mindset from an outsider's perspective. In Saya no Uta, we spent most of our time in Fuminori's head, so this is an interesting change of pace. Also, there has been some good foreshadowing in certain parts. There was a specific scene in the Casual Route that would immediately tip you off that Sirei's brainwashing didn't fix his disorder. It was kind of predictable anyways, but I still enjoy details like that.

It is, I'm surprised you haven't gotten it yet actually (walkthrough might help perhaps?) the goodbye Eito is one of the last decisions you get in that route so I think it's important to play that as well, I think it's a really good finale look into Eito as a character.

How bad is the Retsnom route? I accidentally spoiled myself on some things about it (maybe for the better given what they were) but I'm really allergic to even just the idea of Eito being remotely straight, regardless of plot reasons. Is this ignorable or should I just skip the route?

I think I might still give it a try, I do want to see more of Darumi so hopefully it's not too offputting.
To get back on topic, before I started the game I thought Eito was going to be one of those cute but slightly crazy and obsessive semes and needless to say, my expectations were exceeded. However I can't really decide on a specific dynamic I like for him and Takumi, maybe because the game puts them through a lot of really different situations depending on the route. I haven't done all of the routes that have a lot of Eito yet (I'm taking it slow after finishing the true ending) so my perception of them will probably change even more.

NAYRT and I initially didn't want to speak on the route because our tolerances to this sort of thing may be different, but the thing you're worried about really is a blip in the whole route, and it's only in one scene total, I think. It's one of my favorite routes in the game.

I actually really like this detail. It's a lot of fun to see characters interact in different circumstances, and I feel like there's enough consistency in their characterization between the routes for it all to make some degree of sense.

I finished second scenario

Eito with sunglasses = MOE MOE HOLY SHIT. And there's an adorable blink-and-you'll-miss-it line where he asks Takumi to hold his hand and steer him to the cafeteria~ Blind Eito is moe. He needs Takumi to hold his hand.

Ideally, Takumi should just let Eito sleep in his room from now on, to get used to blindness. Sirei can force him.

EITO CANON GAY. Eito gave Takumi a love confession, which is more than the sole survivor did, she just wanted to keep in touch. Eito genuinely confessed romantic feelings. Holy shit. Also in a kino location.

Thank you studio-behind-this-game, ya'll can be moidy sometimes, but you've solidly delivered on this game.

This ending was really sad, but thematically relevant. That said, it was the perfect 'Not the only ending' if that makes sense? It's a great ending for interactive fiction, but not if it's the only one… I hope there are more, happier endings. That said, it fit perfectly with the theme of the game being heavily tied to the idea of kamikaze and warfare.
