Mayoi and Shinobu are the cutest pairing and my number one OTP. It's like they were made for each other. Dead End Land was so sweet I wanted to cry… it's my favourite enstars story of all time. I could write a whole ship manifesto about them and how much I love them… I'm just that obsessed

Yes it has gotten crazier KEK the writers keep including sci-fi shit and augmented reality stuff in the story for no reason. It stands out so much and feels so out of place. There are the new shota characters but they're boring outside of Esu and Yume's dynamic. They also upped the fujobaiting and included a scene where Rinne buys a doujinshi of HiMERU and Kohaku to research what is marketable to the fans and he says they'd make a cute couple. It got a lot of people upset because of Kohaku's age but it was funny and based KEK
I love Enstars but I wish the fandom was more invested in the story. This game has almost 10 years worth of content and all the fans do is seethe over "problematic" ships and project their tranny headcanons onto every character. Because most of the fans haven't touched the stories and Happyele did a mass exodus of fan translations the fandom is just playing a massive game of telephone which is annoying especially when it comes to Ryuseitai. The fans push the "found family" trope on them which is just plain stupid and a whole misunderstanding of their characters. It is annoying as fuck how fans treat 1st x 3rd year ships too. They will literally treat you like a pedo for these pairings as if they aren't all within 1-3 years of each other kekkk I really wish the fanbase was more mature

I've always wanted to get into Enstars but don't know how especially since I am really bad at rhythm games, any nonnas have recommendations? Are the specific stories to read or anything? Is it one of those fandoms you can enjoy the content without playing?

There's an anime by David Pro which is fun and how I got into the franchise that'd be my recommendation for a starting point. Besides that check out the official manga.

The anime was surprisingly engaging even with a bullshit setting and no characters I particularly liked, I watched a whole cour of it before I knew. I thank Hishida for it.

Enstars is split into 2 games. The original game Enstars Basic is an idol raising simulator, which is just tapping and doesn't require skill at all. Enstars Music is the rhythm game with the 3DMVs but you could always just play on easy or normal mode, it doesn't affect the game in any way besides missing out on a couple diamonds for scouting and losing a bit of potential event points. The english version of ESMusic has an auto mode too, so if you clear a song once you basically never have to do it again kek. The English version is about 2 years behind the JP version which is a double edged sword. It gives more time to prepare for upcoming scouts and events and stories are translated (albeit the translation not being very good kek) but you will have to wait for new content.
>Are the specific stories to read or anything?
I would suggest just picking a boy or unit you find cute and start with stories centering them. Other characters make cameos which might pique your interest and you'll gain new favourites though that. The most important stories are the Reminiscence ones which contain all the crazy lore and "war" you have likely heard about. The stories can vary from slice of life to batshit insanity. Here is a google sheet with a guide:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/u/0/d/1bershJms4jNAZhaKxu5f2RUImmwIaEIg-ABoMOGebks/htmlview
Keep in mind the guide is a bit old so it is missing the newer characters and stories.
And my personal favourites (you can tell which unit I produce)
>Meteor Impact
>Dead End Land
>Strawberry Coloured Holiday (cute one)
>Ryuseitai’s climax story
>Element
>Motor Show
>Blackjack
Note that Happyele took down a bunch of fan translations from the Ensemble Stars wiki before the English version came out, but they are still accessible via Wayback Machine before August 17 2021. You can also google search a specific story and there will be fan translations on tumblr or a fan translator’s blog for the ones that were released after the takedown.
>Is it one of those fandoms you can enjoy the content without playing?
You don’t need to play to enjoy the stories at all, but there are minitalks and voicelines. Some stories are voiced as well. I second the anime as a start but it is only 12 episodes and the game is 9 years old, so a lot of things are cut out.

NTA but this game is tagged with "cult" on VNDB? Is that storyline still available in the game? I love that sort of thing. And then you're talking about a war?? I thought this game was about music??

NTA but the game is kinda…edgelord shit at times for lack of a better word.

Kek the post piqued my interest because I thought this was like K-On with boys or something, but this sounds much crazier. I'm reading the Google doc right now.

Yes, there's a lot of craziness, but it's fun as long as you don't take it seriously (if you do, you'll die of cringe).

The cult storyline is touched upon in Meteor Impact and has to do with the character Kanata and his family. It’s the best written story in the game imo Kanata was raised in a cult and worshipped as a god and everyone believes him and his ancestors can grant wishes and cure people of illness.
As for the “war”, it’s metaphorical and doesn’t involve any actual physical fighting, but extreme bullying and suicide happens. It starts off with Eichi, the blonde guy in threadpic being sickly and realising he doesn’t have much time left to live. While terminally ill in his hospital bed he obsessed over idols and they gave him comfort. However Yumenosaki, the idol training school where all this takes place, starts losing its reputation as a good school because the students started becoming lazy and thought once they were in they could do whatever they wanted and still graduate with a career lined up. Eichi was disgusted by this and felt betrayed because he spent all that time in his bed idolizing them kek. He then decided to get to the very root of the problem no matter the costs. The most talented students known as the 5 Eccentrics (including Kanata) were used as scapegoats to get the student body in favour of Eichi’s own unit and to make them look like the underdog. He created plans to ridicule them and ruin their reputation known as “excecutions”. Eichi gained even more power and support from the student body and became student council president, then he was able to change the entire school curriculum to be more rigorous in order to weed out students. The events during the war cause some of the students to drop out and commit suicide. I would read the stories in The War section in the google sheets for all the details on this. Element is the most important one

I have downloaded the English game on my tablet, and I'm going to try to watch the anime and get caught up on the lore by reading the translated stories (at least, the cult one and the stuff about the war) from the first game after life calms down in the next few weeks. Very disappointed to hear that the war is metaphorical and this series is not, in fact, about a bunch of child soldiers who sing and dance in their free time.

 No.3362

>>3361
Oh, there are actual former child soldiers, just not in relation to "the war".
