>>3249Enstars is split into 2 games. The original game Enstars Basic is an idol raising simulator, which is just tapping and doesn't require skill at all. Enstars Music is the rhythm game with the 3DMVs but you could always just play on easy or normal mode, it doesn't affect the game in any way besides missing out on a couple diamonds for scouting and losing a bit of potential event points. The english version of ESMusic has an auto mode too, so if you clear a song once you basically never have to do it again kek. The English version is about 2 years behind the JP version which is a double edged sword. It gives more time to prepare for upcoming scouts and events and stories are translated (albeit the translation not being very good kek) but you will have to wait for new content.
>Are the specific stories to read or anything?I would suggest just picking a boy or unit you find cute and start with stories centering them. Other characters make cameos which might pique your interest and you'll gain new favourites though that. The most important stories are the Reminiscence ones which contain all the crazy lore and "war" you have likely heard about. The stories can vary from slice of life to batshit insanity. Here is a google sheet with a guide:

And my personal favourites (you can tell which unit I produce)
>Meteor Impact>Dead End Land>Strawberry Coloured Holiday (cute one)>Ryuseitai’s climax story>Element>Motor Show>BlackjackNote that Happyele took down a bunch of fan translations from the Ensemble Stars wiki before the English version came out, but they are still accessible via Wayback Machine before August 17 2021. You can also google search a specific story and there will be fan translations on tumblr or a fan translator’s blog for the ones that were released after the takedown.
>Is it one of those fandoms you can enjoy the content without playing? You don’t need to play to enjoy the stories at all, but there are minitalks and voicelines. Some stories are voiced as well. I second the anime as a start but it is only 12 episodes and the game is 9 years old, so a lot of things are cut out.
