Gen Urobuchi's wuxia puppet show in collaboration with the Taiwanese puppet TV company Pili (but the language is Japanese). Up to its currently airing 4th season. T.M.Revolution has his own puppet. Consider watching Thunderbolt Fantasy.

We've got incredible practical effects, 10/10 entertaining dialogue and cute and handsome puppet guys.

 No.3178

I've seen gifs of this before but didn't know Gen Urobuchi was attached to it. I will watch few episodes tomorrow nonna!

 No.3179

I just saw another funny webm about it and decided that I will download it later. It's probably the series I see being advertised honestly the most. AKA no corporate shilling or mainstream hype. Anons casually mention it in every kind of thread I use and everybody calls it "patrician". I avoided it so far because I assume I couldn't get into puppet plays but maybe I should give it a go.

From the screenshots and webms I have seen so far it feels like the LotGH of the fantasy genre lmao

I could describe it more but the easiest way to get a feel is to watch the first episode. Especially the first season is made as much as possible in consideration of anime watchers who think "wtf is taiwanese puppet theater" as expected.

Have fun!

It's definitely one of those series where you really don't think you're going to get into it until, well, you get into it. The puppet theatre and the sheer ridiculousness of it all can be a bit jarring, but it really feels like a production where everyone is having a ton of fun, and you can't help but have fun too.

One of my favorite little behind-the-scenes tidbits is that T.M. Revolution did the OP/ED, so they made him a puppet for promotional materials and such, and everyone liked it so much that now he's a main character.

Before this started airing I never would've thought that Gen urobuchi playing with dolls would be among my fave shows of all time but it sure happened. Trying to sell people on this is difficult cause the coolest moments that could spark interest are things that I'd rather not spoil.

You're reminding me that it's been a while since I checked out the Shourin(殤凜) tag on pixiv. This is my OTP cause I love this type of "Serious exasperated guy x thrill-seeking trickster who will make his boredom the other guy's problem" dynamic. I'm also happy to see that my fave Shourin smut is still up on pixiv and not thrown into deleted/privated jail like some of my bookmarks. https://www.pixiv.net/en/artworks/84358560

I remember hearing about it as a teen, and finding what I saw of it kinda lame. But now, I've been big into looking at photos of dolls lately, so it's kinda captured my heart!

I'm really trying to branch out from just anime, and mentally, I feel like I'm better at filling in the blanks of this type of art (the lack of expressions). I'm just more willing to meet it half way I guess. I find it actually really refreshing looking?

God, all the boy characters looks gorgeous. They all look like yoshitaka amano paintings… I enjoy that part of the medium, that there isn't really a limitation on visual detail unlike commercial animation. I wanna draw them so bad.

Plan to watch very soon.

If you start now, you'll catch up to S4 discussions as it's currently airing.

>the lack of expressions
This is not really jarring if you remember old TV anime that was made on the cheap and used visual tricks, like panning, stills etc., because no budget for fancy animations.

Yes I'm plenty aware. I've been watching more old anime now and I fill in the blanks easier now, enjoy it more than when I was in my teens. Idk, I just feel as I've gotten older, I've had an easier time extracting emotions from art. I think I was a cold and unimaginative child lol. Idk what caused the change. I guess just age.

Also I love the video. I love behind the scenes stuff, it's really blowing me, I wouldn't have assumed they hit them with whips lmao

It kinda reminds me of older videogames in that way. I remember seeing a playthrough of the original metal gear solid on playstation and being surprised at the emotion they could convey even with those static low poly faces. Of course in both of these cases the voice acting helps but you don't always consider how much gestures contribute as well.

I miss the real Mantis every week, he was just a chuuni boy.

Also the second pic awakened something in me, Azi x Ansatt or reverse would be cash.

Ooooh, that's an interesting thought. This demon world arc has been great for these new interesting character designs.

Well damn, these demons sure have been getting killed off quickly. Kind of a shame.
