What about H. P. Lovecraft ships instead? Tell me about your favorite pairings of eldritch monstrosities beyond human comprehension.
No.2217
don’t have any fanart to post atm but i’ll do the little questionnaire anyways cos i’m feeling chatty.
>favourite character
out of the students, neville. out of the teachers, remus (mostly in the books since i could imagine him cuter, kek). but i’ll also commit blasphemy and say that i have a bit of a soft spot for tonks, too.
>favourite ship
harrymort/tomarry because i’m a darkfic bitch. i would say remus and sirius but i just can’t get into 99% of the fic for them.
>favourite book/movie
goblet of fire, probably. it’s so comfy to me and has my favorite balance of fun school stuff and legit peril.
>anything else (house, fanart, thoughts on upcoming HBO tv series, etc.
i’ve gotta ask wether any other nonnas lose any and all ability to get into a fic after the author leaves a long-ass “FUCK JKR!1!!” author’s note. because for me, the preachy bs immediately takes me out of it and by that point the fic is tarnished. i’m almost ready for an ao3 skin that just hides author’s notes entirely. is that a thing? i desperately need it.

>>2217>harrymort/tomarry because i’m a darkfic bitch. i would say remus and sirius but i just can’t get into 99% of the fic for them.Do you mainly enjoy it in Chamber of Secrets or do you like it throughout the whole series? I find in general I enjoy fics set pre-Goblet of Fire mainly because I enjoyed those books more, I've definitely read cool stuff before involving the diary.

No.2222
>>2217same as anon above it's ignorable as long as the writing is unaffected. as soon as i see something about troons or jkr in the notes i immediately skip the walltext rant
the worst i ever ran into was a fic tagged with trans activism, i looked to see how bad it was and the dialogue was basically copy and paste what you'd expect from an obnoxious virtue signalling twitter activist. harry would not say that shit
No.2223
>>2222Calling something like that "fanfiction" is a bit insulting since it's just made to deride the author and/or fans. Is there a term for that? Spitefics?
Anyway now that I have time to site down I can answer the OP questions!
>favourite characterTough choice but I may just have to go with Snape, I find that he's very fleshed out as far as the adult characters go and his (platonic) relationship with Harry is interesting when you factor in the reveal.
>favourite shipNeville/Draco is very high for me but I don't know why since they don't interact enough in the books. Read some good post-canon fanfics at least. Also Darry has so much content I don't mind though I liked that more when I was younger.
>favourite book/movieBook is Azkaban, I know, I know, Timeturner is broken but I love time travel even if it is silly. I also like werewolves and am all about what Lupin brings to the series. Movie is either Sorcerer's Stone or Chamber of Secrets. Those two PEAKED in terms of bringing Hogwarts to life, they're colorful and have a real sense of magic that is lost in the greys of future movies.
>anything else (house, fanart, thoughts on upcoming HBO tv series, etc.Certified Ravenclaw representing! I haven't been a fan of most of the recent Wizarding World content, but I do hope they keep making it since I love the world. Need to get around to playing Hogwarts Legacy at somepoint, that looked fun.
No.2226
>>2223wasn't entirely a "spitefic" surprisingly, i didn't read it all but it was long and seemed to have other parts besides the activism stuff it was just very preachy when it came to those elements
>Neville/Dracothat's cool. never read one where they were the main couple but some fics i read involved one of them having a crush on the other and it was always cute, rare to see someone who has it as a favorite. their personalities are really contrast each other so i can see the appeal. any recs?
No.2227
>>2221chamber of secrets is def peak tomarry, especially if you put harry in ginny’s place. although i do like AUs that change up the dates or let the situation play out for longer than a school year, just so that harry can get a bit older and the angst can get more intense.
and as for harrymort,
i like it as either a fucked up what-if for goblet of fire, or as an equally fucked up deathly hallows-era thing.>>2222you’re all stronger than i am, kek.
No.2242
>>2226The one I'd recommend of the top of my head is "Your Father Will Hear About This" by MeadowRue. It takes a bit for the ship to get going, but it's a post-canon story about Neville being a Herbology professor helping Draco with his son after his wife has just passed away.
https://archiveofourown.org/works/23893648 No.2952
So is the mega popular All the Young Dudes fic actually worth reading?
No.2953
>>2952I haven't read it myself but heard the characterization for Remus is widely different from canon and previous fanon portrayals. The author turned into him some rugged orphan selling cigarettes, there's basically no remnant of his soft/cowardly personality (whether that's good or bad depends on your preference I guess). So I would just consider if you're interested in that, but other than that it's probably decently well-written if it's that popular. I knew a Sirius fan who was a canon stickler and she didn't like it and heavily disliked the new fans coming from the fic kek but she was a Sirry shipper so she could be biased.
No.2959
>>2202I need to shill ToAStranger on ao3 here because she is the only gods damn author who can characterize tom/harry correctly. 'love is touching souls' has me screaming and punching the wall i havent felt this way for a fanfic in such a long time.
No.3027
>>2960God, I love James/Snape so much but it's so hard to find good fics, I feel like I've read everything that is out there already. Why can't this ship be more popular? Why people gotta ship James with such a non character like Regulus when Snape is right there! So in desperate times I end up shipping Remus/Snape even though it ends up way too soft for my taste, fanon really ruined Remus. Sirius/Snape is also good but get too many crappy fics written by tards putting 'JKR sucks' disclaimers. I refuse to read them unless I get real desperate. Can't ship Remus/Sirius because it is always boring ass domestic crap.
No.3034
>>3027>Why people gotta ship James with such a non character like RegulusYessss please, i really don't get the appeal. At all. There's next to no material.
No.3035
>>3034We all know who should really be shipped with Regulus and his name begins with S and ends with B. The TikTok zoomers are afraid of the taboo factor, though.
No.3041
>>3027>>3031James/Snape not being that popular is so bizarre to me. Like it’s not exactly taboo. And there’s the bonus of having at least some material to work off of. I’m honestly pretty sure the people into James/Regulus have never actually read the books or even watched the movies. Most likely, they only read that one popular marauders fanfic that popularized James/Regulus.
>>3035Real. If you’re gonna ship Regulus with anyone really, might as well go with Siriusb Blackb. There’s even the added bonus of the Black family canonically being riddled with incest.
No.3049
>>3048God, I am not prepared for the onslaught of ugly British men.
No.3050
>>3048I love Alan Rickman's preformance but I hope they cast Snape to be more like his book counterpart.I'm also personally worried about Dumbledore since I thought Richard Harris did a great job but no screen adaptation after his death has managed to capture the spirit of the character.
The TV show is just planning to do the first book right now correct? It probably has the strongest movie adapation in terms of tone and setting, I doubt they'll be able to surpass it, though the later books could definitely be improved upon in the adaptation department especially Goblet and Half-blood.
No.3051
>>3048i hope against hope that they cast young handsome men for the marauders generation. they are in their early 30s for fucks sake. sirius was described as handsome before going to jail ffs.
but they are probably going to be old, ugly and or some flavour of genderspecial
No.3052
>>3051>but they are probably going to be old, ugly and or some flavour of genderspecialUnlike HL, Rowling seems to be more involved in the series so probably not the third one at least. If she's not a hack she'll follow the book descriptions but my expectations are low kek.
No.3082
>>3048If JKR is very involved it might not be great news for us fujos considering she tinhats Sirius as straight. She is based in many ways but I've never heard of another fictional straight man being so far up James Potter's colon
No.3087
>>3086Somebody should show ugly man psyop threads to her
No.3186
>>3049Ugly British men > ugly American men. At least the way Britbongs speak doesn't sound cringe and over-the-top.
>>3052That's somehow reassuring - at least there won't be any cringe re-writes to placate the gender brigade.
>>3082I never caught gay vibes from Sirius. He just seemed to be so fed up with his family that he didn't care for romantic relationships or starting his own household.
No.3209
Does anyone keep up with the fandom events? There's a masterlist on potterfests dreamwidth for all the current ones and now I see why there's so much Jegulus. There's literally 7 events for Jegulus. I don't see how they could write much for such a nothing ship. I think there's more for them than Wolfstar at this point.
No.3210
>>3209>they could write much for such a nothing shipThe Marauders fandom has essentially branched off of canon in such a way that it is its own sandbox where anything goes (even more so than fanfic already is). I never cared too much about Marauders era back when I was into HP, but I was curious enough to watch all of this video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fekYR0Q1Lx0 Her videos are good watches if you ever wondered what is going on in western normie-adjacent fandoms.
The tl;dw of it is that due to its extremely fanon-driven nature a lot of people prefer it because making everybody melanated/queer/trans makes them feel better about still playing in JKR's sandbox.
No.3310
>>3308If I recall, Rowling made a statement years ago about how she was okay with fanfiction, and understands it's an integral part of fandom. Plus, even if she did have a problem with it, she'd probably also have an issue with Dramione shippers and such. Like the other anon said, Anne Rice was very vocally against it, and even that did little to deter the fandom. I really wouldn't give it another thought.
