I also feel like the samurai thing ruins the design possibilities you are presented with when it comes to the flag and national symbology. A lot of them just look like recolors of random samurai characters, and I wouldn't be able to tell which countries flag most of these guys are supposed to represent if the actual flag wasn't there next to their pic.
